If you don't want to use plants/flowers then how about just some tall grass? Rocks? Tree trunks? Random snow banks? Patchs of dirt? Anything to make the map look less plain... Also, it would be nice if you show your updates in here instead of in your game profile. Unless you're satisfied with it already, in which case it may be a good idea to remove this screenshot.

I don't like this map. It's just one boring square (rectangle) with a grass carpet and some trash... Try to make the transition between the grass and the dirt floor a bit more natural. Get rid of the barrels and stuff, and maybe put a couple more columns in there somewhere.

What am I supposed to be looking at here? Isn't this just one of the standard show message options? If you could at least center the text inside the box that would be a minimum degree of customization... You need to step things up a notch, man.

Are those even stairs? They look too steep. That's more like a ladder... IF they're stairs you should probably extended them a couple tiles up and put a shadow over them to give the illusion of depth. Adding a resting area half-way up them would also help that effect.

Trying really hard to look for an explanation for this place, you could say that it was a cavern that had its walls reinforced and floors tiled to turn it into a prison. This also explains why the waterflow is so irregular and not anything like a sewer system... They just left the stalagmites in there hoping that intruders or escapees would trip and impale themselves. xD

Yeah, but no, that's too far-fetched! ...Better to look at images of real prisons, both modern and ancient, and draw inspiration from them. Research is just as important for game design as any other area. (Except maybe gameplay) And a better understanding of architecture among other things would help you a great deal with your mapping and level design.

Mmh. I think you should lose the RTP fairy. The art style clashes with that of the background and it looks kind of cheesy.

Do you really want feedback in all these screenshots or you just dumped them in the development section?

Anyway. I don't see a problem with the charaset. It fits well enough with the tilesset, actually. I guess it's just not a combination people is familiar with? If anything, the only visual clash I see here is between the HUD and everything else. That faceset has soft and bright colors, while everything else looks dark and saturated. I guess that's because of the tint you gave this map...?

Talking about the HUD. What is that bar to the right for? What makes it so special that needs to be all the way over there? Why can't it be next to the other bars where I can more easily keep track of it? ...As for their colors. I understand that HUD elements need to stick out. But your game seems to favor softer shades of colors, so why do you try that instead of those eye-piercing ones?

As for the map... What is it? Is it even a mountain or a cave? Regardless, try to make the corridors less plain. Try to spice things up with more details: plants rocks, bones, whatever... And for the love of god don't make of this or any other dungeon in your game a labyrinth that players have to zig-zag their way out of. Because that's exactly what this seems to be, and I'm hating it already.

Mmh. As much as I hate maps designed like mazes, I also hate those that are too simplistic. In this one, all treasure chest are laid out in plain sight. ...What you need to do is give the players some room so they can explore at their own leisure. And also make the treasures more interesting to grab. For example, that one in that little passage on the wall. Maybe you can put it behind a cracked wall and you can't get to it until you take the wall down with a bomb or something.

Cool title! The colors mix very well together... But I think you should get rid of the Japanese lettering and the word 'RPG'.

Yeah, that looks a lot better. ...Try and experiment a little with the ground as well; to make it look more like sand or cracked soil, whatever it is your choice. But I guess it looks fine enough as it is, too.
