Ugh, couldn't you find an image more 'ruined' than this one, to use as a background? >_>
Link ...How about this one? If you have trouble converting the image to 256 colors look up some advice on the subject.

This looks great so far. Maybe the texture of the mountains is a bit heavy right now, but kudos anyway, for talking the extra mile and trying to make everything look more organic/realistic. ...I'll keep an eye open for the finished version! =)

I think the HUD is too dark. Yeah, I know it's supposed to be a 'dark' game and all, but I can barely see any detail on it.

I agree with Avee. It's not just the palette, but how the character is shaded as well. But yeah, it looks great nonetheless.

The issue is that when going in our out, the player will inevitably bump into the pillars every now and then, hindering their movement. That's a very innocent but yet very effective way to annoy a player, specially is it happens on a highly traversed place.
My suggestion, move the pillars two tiles down, right above the crypts. The player still has to go around those anyway, and if they are only there for decoration then they're not an issue. The player's path will be clear and the place will look just as good.

Awesome effects indeed. I've already seen the video of it, and it looks swell. =) ...Just one thing. Dunno if it has already been brought to your attention, or if you have fixed it on your own already. But, shouldn't that candle-holder(?) and the flowers, have been knocked out by the blast? They look silly standing neatly on their place afterwards. =P
