Console Games That Should Be Good, But...

We're not talking about games here (people would get upset). And we're not talking about clearly bad games. We're talking about...

Well, to use an example, I got Tales of the Abyss recently. Now, the storyline was good, the characters were okay, and I wanted more of the story. But then I got to like a side battle. Some sword that would probably be for you to collect if you defeated it.

Well, there were problems well before this. Screen refresh after battles is horribly slow for some reason. Meaning yeah, I don't feel like training when there's about a minute pause (I think I fixed it after a fashion, though) between battles. Potions (especially life potion which gets spent quickly in boss battles) are expensive, and get this: potions (it might be a an AD skill but) can only be used by the person selected (you can't for instance use char 2 to heal char 3) meaning attacking characters low on health have to interrupt their attack. If that weren't bad enough, healing spells are painfully slow (and switching to the healer, I found out why, you can't pause before cast and select your target, you select your target while she's casting). To add to this, monsters have easy combos, and you don't. And the party is really stupidly aggressive, so there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust formation so casters attack at range.

Yes, I was underlvl for this battle, probably. But it was all these factors rather than damage, really. The thing that really annoyed me though, was none of these issues were in the other games (Tales of Legendia could combo up to 50, no problem, instead of... 6), they had a way to make casters keep their distance, and and had reasonable healing times and reasonable item prices, and most importantly, characters can heal other characters at range. Despite this, by playing very carefully, I managed to reduce the boss hp to like 260/17000, by stunning it with a special, following it with a reduced combo, and backing it up. Great. Then my stupid beta attacker (and my black mage) go all Leroy Jenkins on me, and i have to waste two life potions, and my priest dies while I'm waiting.

It was a good game with regard to plot so far, and had some cool ideas like elemental trait skills. And lousy interface ruined it.

Games you might have liked if only for something so wrong that you had to hate it?

[Poll] Hey Peoples...

My birthday's July 20. What should I do that day?

If you could invent one thing....

What would it be?

Since I'm tired of this "no carbs" thing, I'd invent just for the hell of it a "cereal" called Meaties. Dried up meat cut into flakes, that you put milk on, for a cow milk experience.

On a more serious note, there are plenty of things that I'd like to improve but most of them are cultural rather than technological.

Exfont Help

Can someone help me with centering these characters?

I made a japanese exfont, simply by typing out using an IME, resizing to the same width x height as other exfont, and inverting the color. There's basically 4 lines of thirteen glyphs, but these are sort of mashed together, where it should start at the left, and head right with proper gaps between characters.

I also need it solid white and black, as opposed to grey shades.

Edit: You guys suck. I made one already.

MFC71 Error

Okay, so I can run the game in full-mode just fine.

But when I put it in Window Mode, if I get into battle, it tells me that MFC71.dll is missing.

It doesn't happen on my other game, which doesn't have voice acting, and thus doesn't have Disharmony on it. I must've installed it poorly on there, but given the stupid nature of Disharmony (you're allowed to patch ONCE for each unique file, not even if it's an older version that doesn't actually have the file), I can't retry.

Is there a way to (A)fix this problem, or (B)disable the ability to use Alt Enter?

Game Translation

http://rpgmaker.net/games/5187/

This game (and probably others) have gotten translated into other languages.

Now, I do know how to create custom text boxes and even cycle the down arrow thing like this...

But I neither really know Chinese or Japanese (which over German, a game like this would make more sense), nor do I think this is an ideal solution (thousands of such textbox pictures). Can my game be translated? Especially with the fact that much of it is made with DynRpg and special patches like BetterAEP.

Then again, making text boxes may be the most ideal solution to preserve the code's core (since there is the support for pictures in battle, and translating everything to Chinese would involve translating the code too, which would be a nightmare).

Most Annoying Glitch You've Found

So I managed to make it so I could show a transparent BG for my menu. Yay!

Then I use the shop to buy stuff and find out there is a tremendous glitch with the scrolling using shops (it basically does something where it overwrites the description making an unreadable mess, unless you go to make shops not transparent.

What's the most annoying glitch, you've encountered? As in, something that forced you to fix EVERYTHING just to get stuff to work as intended?

Transparent Textbox

So anyway, I was experimenting with text (see my Color Scheme topic for how that went), and I found that while you can have transparent text.

But, when you try to do this with the text box itself (basically making a window and showing the background) which with the clock timer plugin would allow some decent menus, it gives "Yay, black background!" You can tell it's not mistaking this for a color, because it's not black on battle or message, instead it's the ugly background color (usually orange).

Since I'd probably prefer see-through menus to the transparent text, I'm wondering if this can be fixed.

Color Scheme

I have four basic systems that I've customized.

But well, nobody much cares for them. I'm thinking about expanding this to 9 systems.

I want to know the basic look for each in terms of background and main.

As in: Pink text on (lighter/darker) Pink BG.

Well, probably not. But come up with something.

...If nobody responds, I'm gonna make ugly camou designs.

Tone

I one time saw a Youtube video that had this scene.

But it was set to like ten different songs (I think it was called 10 songs one scene):

The original above.
A few dramatic orchestral stuff
Some rock/country songs that had something appropriate to do with the scene.
At least one classical tune (Maybe In The Hall Of The Mountain King).
And, "Head under water, and you tell me to breathe easy for awhile" (which looking at the video, made me laugh)

So, rather than just picking a song that goes with the scene, the choice can be altered to give a more interesting atmosphere. Thoughts?
