insane muscle memory in my hands from smoking. I don't get the craving anymore but my hands do! those candy sticks that come in a cardboard packet are really helpful for this.
I pop my fingers alotpop is the right word for this, as it is not the sound of cartilage straining and cracking (as told by thousands of mothers to stop their children making annoying sounds) but bubbles of nitrogen bursting in the joints. it will not give you arthritis either.
So what describes a quality game to you?

In graphics I like it when it's consistent and home-made. I like it even more when it's not anime. For sound I think that we're all past midis by now and should have some of that "proper" sound in. (Doesn't mean it can't be blipblops, it just means that it can be better sounding blipblops)I agree with you entirely on the anime issue but MIDIs ?? MIDIs can actually sound really good if you know what you're doing / have a soundcard that doesn't blow hard. Then again I do like using SNES samples too soooo.

PM TROUBLE HUH no we are not doing this again
bad news! I am probably not gonna get finished by the deadline so idk if I am gonna enter. in retrospect I should not have left it until the last few days before the deadline buuuut college work blows like that. there is still gonna be loads of entries though so I am not too beat-up about it. :)

WARNING: 11-MAN WALL OF FOOTBALL TEXT. DON'T WORRY BECKHAM WILL BEND IT ROUND
Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo, Francesco Totti, Gianluca Zambrotta and Mauro Camoranesi were all in the Italy side that won that tournament, the final being Cannavaro's 100th game for his national side.
Gianluca Zambrotta is just as excellent as Fabio Cannavaro and the two of them together make a wall of defence.
Mauro Camoranesi has dual Argentine / Italian citizenship (note an Argentinian name), and the decided factor for who he'd play for was simply Italy calling him up first.
Gianluigi Buffon only conceded 2 goals in that tournament: an own goal against USA and Zidane's penalty in the final. He couldn't make a single save in the final's penalty shootout, though (penalty shootouts don't count towards goal concessions). He won the Yashin award (named after Soviet goalkeeping legend Lev Yashin) for his contribution to the tournament. he's widely considering the best goalkeeper in the game today (by me too).
Andrea Pirlo set up Italy's equalising goal in that final from a corner which Marco Materazzi (hello again) headed in.
Francesco Totti is Francesco Totti. he is an Italian footballing legend and I am so surprised he is only 32. it seems like he has been playing forever. (welp I guess he has - he has been playing longer than I have been alive!)
if Gianluigi Buffon is the best goalkeeper in the game today Dino Zoff is one of the best goalkeepers ever (in fact he was voted the third best ever after Lev Yashin (hello again) and England's Gordon Banks. that sounds about right). He won the World Cup with Italy in 1982 at the age of 40; he'd been playing since '61.
Paulo Rossi is another Italian legend, this time more in the mould of Francesco Totti. He was also in the '82 World Cup winning Italy squad, and he picked up the Golden Boot (top goalscorer of the tournament) and Golden Ball (player of the tournament) too.
GUESS WHAT - I LOVE ITALIAN FOOTBALLERS
Marek Jankulovski is a Czech (phew) left winger. By which I mean anywhere up the left wing. a very helpful player to have in your side, not to mention because of his excellent technical ability. oh wait he has played in Italy for 9 years, currently for Milan.
Kaká also plays for Milan! except he's Brazilian so we're okay. he's another player in that 'best footballer ever' mould but he balances that with genuinely being a nice person. he tithes his income to the Church (as if they don't have enough monies) because he's an Evangelical Christian (this is not a British invention which I am particularly proud of but w/e) and he gives to many charities. he's a hugely creative player and was the Ballon d'Or winner (not the same as the Golden Ball - this is the European Footballer of the Year) in 2007. and ohhhhh fuck he is officially an Italian citizen.
Franz Beckenbauer is an insane German defending legend. his nickname was DER KAISER becausehis name is Franz of his dominating playing style. he won the 1974 World Cup with Germany (beating the unstoppable Netherlands side featuring one Johan Cruijff). He came second to Johan Cruijff in the European Player of the Century. He played for New York Cosmos twice in his career. apparently playing in the US is all the rage for old football players.
Carlos Puyol is another excellent defender, he is Spanish / Catalan and plays for Barcelona. He has incredible hair. HE ALSO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ITALY YESSSS
Steven Gerrard (whoops) is an entirely English footballer. He's a one-club man with Liverpool and has been pretty much the heart and soul of their team for years. He's a lot like Andrea Pirlo really except Scouse (from Liverpool). He's rubbish for England though.
aaaand David Villa is a Spanish striker. he is not really as legendary or famous (until recently) as the other names but he does have a great future. he could be among these Hall of Fame-ers in a few years time!
tl;dr: yeah I love football. wikipedia is your friend (no read it you fucker this took ages to write)
Johan Cruijff - why him, I have no idea. I think it was in a discussion about pronouncing names.because Johan Cruijff is definitely at least one of the two greatest footballers ever (and I don't believe all the palaver about Pelé soooo guess where my loyalty / fandom / strange man-love lies). the discussion about pronounciation was probably about his 'ij', it's not actually ij but a special Dutch letter. it is replaced with either ij or y in English though ij is probably more correct. he also played for LA Aztecs (as they were then) and Washington Diplomats in the twilight of his career so I can understand you knowing his name.
David Beckham, because he can "bend it", whatever "it" is (a lead pipe maybe?)the 'it' is the flight of the ball when he strikes it. he bends it round the wall / goalkeeper / sometimes round the goal entirely. I like the idea of him having super-strength / being a super hero though. damn you kent now I have a 14th different game idea. he plays for LA Galaxy atm (operating phrase here if you believe the transfer rumours) soooo again it is understandable.
I think I've spent more time watching a player headbutt (Zidane?) another than an actual game.it did happen to be the 2006 World Cup final so that is a big reason for watching. it was certainly Zinedine Zidane (legendary French international playing his last ever game) headbutting Marco Matarazzi (for Italy) and getting sent off, which meant he didn't recieve a runners up medal (France went on to lose the penalty shootout).
