Really? x_x
Hmmm....well one vote for older facesets.
The reason I changed them, was due to the fact that later within the series it starts getting dramatic. I can't really do drama with the older facesets. They are comedic in nature.
Also, they are traced from the style of the RM2k facesets. These new facesets are inked from hand-drawn scanned pictures.

And another very quick, small, yet very powerful improvement of layer effects for particular scenes.
What I would really love to accomplish, somehow, is shadows on charsets and even a bit of chipset animation. (like blowing grass, etc...)
It would be absolutely incredible if I could just accomplish that much, though it can tend to be a LOT of extra work and I am definitely bent on quality > story at this moment....
What do you think?

As demand would have it, I have been re-doing the facesets to conform to a more mature-looking style:

It's still not the BEST, but it's an improvement.
I'll have the re-release of Takuto Episode 1 Part 1 soon. I've been setting up my website to be more like a Webcomic; that is, it has "First | Last | Archive | Next | Most Recent" though instead of pages it has movies called "Parts" which can be anywhere from 2-10 minutes long.

Because the pixel-art versions are derived from RPG Maker 2K Facesets. The drawn versions are adaptations of manga.

Takuto Episode 2 Non-Voice Acted Version

"On the next Episode of Takuto: Takuto and Juno awake early to attend the Exam."

"Takuto will be taking the exam for his 4th year in a row in the hopes that he will break the ice this time and make it into Greenfield Magicians School."

[Demo] MAGE DUEL
Takuto (Updated 11-22-08)
Yep, that's most likely it. x_x Except I would like to steer clear from Anime cliches and the... bad parts of Anime if you know what I mean. ('power up! Go!')
I want to take the essences of what I like about Anime, and make it more American. I once heard someone say "That's why I hate anime. Because if it were in English you wouldn't like it anyway."
So, instead of weeping about it, I study what is the ESSENCE of what I originally saw in Anime. (The music, the way the script is poetically flowing and conforming to the music, the story, the characters) And then look at why it is not accepted in our mainstream society.
So after a while of scientifically studying the essence of what I love and what I want to bring to people, I've come up with many American inspirations.
Mainly, the comedy is written and inspired by Sitcoms (Friends, Still Standing, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc...) and American Cartoons (Family Guy, Frisky Dingo, Sealab 2020, Futurama, Old-SouthPark, etc...)
This is why I didn't have a sung opening...well actually...at first I did....
but it's just not 'acceptable' enough. I have tried to weave and work around to capture that essence of Bright Blue-sky Shoujo openings and still have it acceptable. This is a huge reason why you have the use of the old-skool synths on the leads of that song. It is a niche.
----
Anyway, as for the Voice Acted version, I have got all of the voice actors together that are necessary for me to complete Episode 1. I am also focusing and paying MUCH more attention to detail on SFX, AmbSFX and the Dynamic Mixing as a whole.
I can say right now, that it is coming out either Average or Above Average. (Depending upon how tolerant the viewer is to puffy light-hearted material) I can't wait to release it! :-[
Though the path must be taken step by slow step each and every day.
I have re-done all the facesets with very subtle touch-ups. I have fixed the eyes and fixed the outlines of most all of the facesets (I think Minas will remain messed up for technical reasons x_x).
Hope you all enjoy the final product when it is released. For now, I would consider this a Demo release. :-)

Takuto (Updated 11-22-08)
Thanks to a couple pointers by Nick, I'm updating the first episode. Here's a screenshot depicting the change:

Modified version: Has earthier tones, expressions improved, eye positioning improved

Original version: Has brighter tones for Charset and Faceset, expression lacks, eye positioning "more off"

Thanks for the replies. :-)
I am looking for voice actors, although Takuto and Juno (the two leads for the first episode) have already been cast. So I'm looking for female voice actors, which is not the easiest of processes ;/ but I'll manage for now.
I'm trying to bring together a team of voice actors online. This will be done through the website (Takutogame.com/not finished).

Takuto (Updated 11-22-08)
Takuto Episode 1 Non-Voice Acted Version
Series Description: Takuto wants to become a professional magician, but he's failed the entrance exams for the school he wants to get into 3 years in a row. Returning to Greenfield, he will try for his 4th year.

In the world of Takuto "Professional Magician" is a lot less like the Harry Potter term, and a lot more like a way to describe a Kung Fu artist that is able to cast magic to aid him in a "match". 'Fighting' or 'Battling' is played as a sport, like a game though not expressed in the dark way you would think; rather a fun/bright/exciting game than a game to the death.

To become a Pro, it would mean you have to make it onto the rosters in the 'Big Leagues'. The World of Takuto has definitely been inspired by sports and competition, in that the uniqueness of every individual is brought out through their own styles/technique of 'play'.
The magic of the world works pretty simply. The astrological sign you were born under determines your element. There are 3 for each of the 4 elements. Fire is: Aries, Leo, Saggitarius. Earth is: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Wind (replaced with air for the sake of it's physical attributes) is: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, and Water is: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
The astrological signs are also said to inhibit personality traits, although for the most part that is left out within this series. If personalities make sense astrologically to you, it is most likely through coincidence. -_o'

In the very beginning of creating this production and even now, my goal was to take the competitive firey nature of the Manga/Anime's Naruto and Bleach (manga prefered) and mix them with the light-heartedness of Love Hina and/or Negima.
In other words, the series is a Shounen-Shoujo Cross-breed, and this is able to be accomplished by the styles of music that I have mixed into the story. Openings are Shoujo creating that "Fresh Bright Blue Sky and Clean Spring Air" feeling, Endings are Mystery Genre, creating that "Midnight Magic" feeling which I think is perfect for saying 'good night' (ending the show) and the story itself is Shounen like Naruto.
