What is the best RPG Maker alternative

Super Mario Maker
I'm looking for (j)RPG making software, not platformer making one.

Hey, I'm actually building the "Super mario maker for RPG's" for several years now :D.

It's free, and works in your browser (HTML5). Check it out at http://rpgplayground.com

We've got a small but really passionate community. Take a look at "The Curious Case of Lierra" made by Aura, to get a feel of what the engine can do.

And here is a screenshot of how easy it is to include action based combat:

Also, feel free to drop in our Discord at any time, we are a really friendly bunch! :)

What is your email? How can I use your maker? I want to make an adventure platformer (metroid-vania), and an RPG MAKER styled version of that sounds good.

A metroidvania is on my list, but now still out of my reach. I first want to focus on something that is simple enough to implement myself, but good enough to compete with the current Maker applications. So for me that means an action-adventure, with big focus on fast paced action (so bullet hell combat is also possible). You can try it online at https://rpgplayground.com . I'm now finishing up the combat (release this or next week), but people are already making adventure games with it.

koonsolo, that image link was broken. I think it's suppose to be this?

Yes, that's the one, thanks! Fixed it in the post above.

I was hoping they would make more genre specific makers.. Platformer maker.. Beatemup maker.. so on and so forth.
But instead, they keep trying to make an all in one maker and lumping different genres together into one genre as "action" .. noooooooooo
I even went to their facebook page, AND their website to let them know this was tried before with IG Maker (also known as the first Action Game Maker) and told them why it failed..
I would hope kadokawa would learn, but I guess not..

I've been working on my own product for some time now, to compete with the 'Makers'. (But since this is my first post here, I'm not going to self-promote too much an put links here, unless you ask. Also sorry if I sound too pretentious, because I know I haven't proven myself yet)

You are absolutely right that the maker needs to be genre specific. Only then can you have a really easy to use maker. When you allow anything to be customized, this doesn't even put real limits of what you can make in the end.

Since I'm going to compete with RPG Maker and the likes, I'm always following their new releases closely. And to be honest, this Pixel Game Maker announcement makes me very happy (probably in the wrong sense ;)).

First of all this is Windows only. It's 2018, so why the hell is this Windows only? It's nowadays so easy to make programs multiplatform, so why would you technically limit yourself to Windows only? Great news for me! ;)

They are using flowcharts, which look nice at first sight, but when you actually want to do sometime practical with them, you end up with this:

Good luck with that!

So yeah, I see this as a continuation of their IG Maker path, which is nothing really special.

In my opinion they have a nice product with RPG Maker, but they continue to drop the ball on the rest, and even on taking RPG Maker to its full potential.

Create a Flash RPG

Just released a video on YouTube that shows our tilemap editor (and the generated flash game) :): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEWZtGm89xM. Hope you like it :)

Create a Flash RPG

Flash performs poorly, is full of security exploits, and unreliably prone to crashing.

On windows I don't have much issues with Flash. But I also work in Linux, and indeed the Linux Flash player is not so great. But the cool thing about Flash games is that you don't need to install anything to play a game. You just go online and play it :). And there are a lot of people who like to play Flash games, so why not Flash RPG's.

Try out Flixel. It's a free framework for making games in Flash and it shouldn't be too hard to produce an RPG with.

I think my original post was a bit unclear, sorry about that. I'm actually a programmer and can make it indeed in Flixel like you suggested. But recently I was contacted by someone who doesn't know how to program, but wants to make RPG games for Flash. So what I'm doing is making an application to make it easy to create a Flash RPG without programming. Then came the idea that there are probably other people too that want to create Flash RPG's. So I'm actually searching for other people who don't know how to program, but want to make an RPG for Flash. This way I can see what they actually need and what they don't need. So my question is actually: who wants to make a Flash RPG, and how can I help you with that :).

I would suggest resources like REFMAP/Mac & Blue if you're looking for free resources to use.

Whow that's a fantastic resource! Those graphics are amazing, and the license terms are also fine :). Thanks for the link!

Create a Flash RPG

What options are there if you want to make a Flash RPG? RPG Maker only generates games for Windows, and I haven't seen any working exporters to Flash. There is also an issue with the RTP graphics license, which states that those graphics and resources may only run on the RTP runtime. And so if someone should work on a Flash exporter, we can't use any of the RTP resources :(.

Because of that I'm currently working on a product that makes it easy and fast to create RPG's for Flash. I'm doing this together with Amaranth games (you might know then from the Aveyond RPG series). As the product is still in development, I have some questions for anyone who wants to make a Flash RPG.

You would help me out a lot if you send me an email at koen@koonsolo.com, so we can have a little chat. This way I get more insight into what your needs are for creating an RPG for Flash. This way I hope provide a solution for that in the near future :).

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!
