Ex Amante

Hi edchuy, actually the game is finished. Feel free to play it right now. :)

I Miss the Sunrise

Hey! so I have started playing this and it is pretty rad so far. Excellent work man. I just wanted to let you know. I'll write up a review when I finish it.

WHAT THE FUCKING YES.

I have to note that in my opinion, the 3D graphics don't have anywhere near the unique charm of the amazing 2D Art of the original.

With that said, I am really pleased to see that this is still moving in development and that Brandon Abley, utterly fascinating individual that he is, is still alive and kickin' it!

Hey thanks man!! I am happy to see you are still around too! Thanks for the compliments.

Everyone says that about the graphics but seriously put them side by side! They don't even compare. Teo and I are very proud of how it looks now. Also, chapter three includes an extended area that looks, more or less, exactly like the caves in the original version. I can't wait to share it with everyone :)

Boo ATB, I'll pass.

Looks neat otherwise though.
Haha, fine by me. But out of curiosity what would you prefer otherwise?
CTB is the best battle system for turn based RPGs, hands down. It's the quickest, most strategic, has the fewest amount of flaws as far as battle systems go, and is just plain old the most fun.

It is a system that it relatively hard to balance, however.

I am not quite sure what that acronym means, but I have adjusted the game to play like the original. No overlapping turns and the timer pauses when you select actions. Is that what you mean? It is my favorite too. I was trying something new with this version and while the random battles went quicker, I have had a hard time making engaging and strategic boss fights. So I just went back to what worked the first time. But it has the same mechanic with choosing your command and waiting for it to charge. Charge times incidentally are very important to how useful a skill is.

Grrrrr. You had to make it online, huh?

My XP computer has pretty good compatibility (and the hardware is okay, so it might run, for the people above the fact that it's Windows 7 might be the culprit, despite supposed Win XP "compatibility" it really isn't) but we're in an internet dead zone almost, so unity web player is likely to finish its bar by next week.

Hey, there is a windows installer too! Actually, that is the primary download. If you have a slow connection or problems with the web player, try the windows download version.

EDIT: Forgot to note that sometimes the game wont even start unless I refresh the page.

Hey Ratty, the GeForce 310 is super old if I remember correctly! I looked it up and got this.

Anyway, I uploaded a Windows Installer so maybe that will work better for everyone. It has variable quality settings. Give that one a shot if you would!

What browser do you recommend for this? I use Google chrome, and if you say it should run at the same pace as a standalone then damn. This game was laggy as heck on my machine, which is unusual for my computer's power.

The battles seem to glitch a little, where either the enemies or the player characters will start running back and forth and will not die even if I drop them to low HP.

I ran it in chrome and IE but that shouldn't make a difference, since your browser is loading a plugin and it is all the same game engine.

The game isn't that well optimized at the moment but it shouldn't be unplayable if you have a somewhat decent gaming PC (mine isn't all that hot for example). The browser plugin has some substantial overhead, but should not be more than 5-10 fps. Of course, sub-25 that is the difference between playable and not.

The running back and forth glitch occurs when the game is at an extremely low framerate. I am still working on the root cause of that one. But I have only seen it at very low (unplayable) framerates below 5 fps. Of course the game effectively freezes then because the battle scripts won't load the next action until the previous one has completed.

I am getting widely varied reports for performance. What are your specs and video card model?

Anyway, thanks for all the input guys. I think I am going to step back to more traditional ATB (one action at a time) and uploaded a lo-fi build. I did not want to put out an executable for the demo, but I am wondering if I should so that people can get at the graphics settings.

Thank you! Yep, that is in-game. That's an older one. That is around the end of chapter 1.

All of the screenshots are in game.
