Favorite/Least Favorite Languages?
I have a recommendation for not so much a language as a writing system. I don't speak Korean at all, but I'm familiar enough with the writing system (Hangul) that I know it's amazing. Each character actually represents a syllable and is a combination of individual glyphs representing the different sounds. And it's the only language I've ever seen that covers the full breadth of vowels in human speech - 12 of them. Which of course makes it hard for many westerners to pick up on the subtleties. But at least inflection doesn't matter, unlike Mandarin.
And keeping with the mixed pattern, I despise Java. I'll work with it but it's always painful. There is always four times as much boilerplate code as actual meaningful code. Way too many things throw exceptions that never should (like simple object factories). And dependency management is absolutely hellish no matter what third party system you use, which is probably why most large organizations have their own custom proprietary build system to handle it. Even C++ Makefiles are better.

I notice in that video that she is doing something wrong with the onions. Anything you want to pan fry like that you should NOT stir it that much. Stir it enough to spread it out and let it sit for a while. Maybe stir it once or twice over the whole course of cooking. You want your onions and meat to sit in the same spot and brown - that's where all the flavor comes from. Of course you don't want to overcook it, but that's a matter of time. And don't worry too much about it not cooking enough without stirring - when it's diced finely like that it will cook through easily as long as the outside is browned.
What recently happened at my school...
Not much to say. By your story, the girl wasn't acting intelligently to actually hurt anyone. But then maybe that's just it: her goal wasn't really to hurt people, it was to cry out in desperation. We must ask ourselves why so many youths in our supposedly advanced society feel so out of place, so desperate to express themselves, so mentally depraved that they decide to do the most shocking, hurtful, awful thing they can think of despite the consequences.
And Liberty, gun laws in Australia are vastly more restrictive than in the USA. In America, it's pretty easy to find a gun store on the internet and get one for pretty much any reason as long as you pass a criminal background check. But you don't even have to pass a background check if you buy your gun at a gun show, which is basically a well advertised convention primarily for the viewing and sale of rare or unusual guns that might be hard to find in stores - not that those are the only guns for sale there.

Which video game character are you?
Right now, I'd say Samus Aran. Always been a loner, doesn't work well with others, doesn't take orders well, but I like to think I'm good at what I do and can kick ass. I feel like my upbringing has left me not entirely able to relate to the rest of society either. I also want to help society / save the galactic federation for no particular reason other than that it looks like those guys have a really good thing going and I'd hate to see it go away.

Made a chipotle cream sauce the other day. It is absolutely amazing. The first thing I did with it was cook chickpeas and orzo in it which was amazing. Next I've cooked shrimp in it - the sauce was good but the shrimp was not good quality. Also used it in rice and beans which made them delicious. This morning I used it in scrambled eggs and I did not mix it right (if I had I would expect it to be fluffy) but it tasted delicious.
Basically you get something resembling Mexican créma - I used crème fraîche, which is 1 part buttermilk to 8 parts cream mixed together in a covered (but open to the air) bowl left at room temperature for 16 hours, but you could also use European yogurt - and blend it with canned chipotles in adobo, lime juice, and garlic. Specifically, 1 cup créma, 2 chipotles, 1 Tbsp lime juice, 1 clove of garlic. The crème fraîche would thicken way too much so I had to heat it halfway through blending.
This stuff seriously goes with everything. It is the perfect blend of spicy, tangy, and creamy. With crème fraîche at least it can be boiled without curdling, which makes it very flexible. So good.

What's your personality type?
And yet you are very close to the middle. I'd guess you have a well developed character and would probably be invaluable as a partner to any of the many idea types we have around here (myself included). I'll bet you can even finish your own projects, can't you?
What are you jamming to?
Just wanted to say a big Thank You to emmych for the Amaranth video. Those guys are awesome and now I am obsessed. Always glad to discover new music to love!
What are you thinking about right now?
I want to be part of a game jam. When's the next one? Custom scripts are about the only thing I've ever actually finished and I would love to contribute them to something that on the whole will be "finished" by some metric.

Why are so many men offended by the idea that a woman might sleep with someone for preferential treatment anyway? Is it because women wouldn't give men preferential treatment for sleeping with them? Are they just jealous of the power women wield because of their raging libidos?
The sadly ironic thing is that if women were treated fairly and not like achievements or possessions, it wouldn't work. And so there would never be this kind of situation where *SCANDAL* a woman is accused of sleeping around to get something she wants! I want to live in a world where that kind of accusation is as patently ridiculous as it would be with a man.

Ewwwwwwwwww
I like making quick improvisational dishes. Right now my fav is a fish and chickpea curry. Start by pan frying some pureed onion, garlic, and jalapeño in olive oil for a while. Add some powdered chipotle, ginger, cumin, turmeric, and thai fish sauce. Later add the chickpeas (drained from a can, and I saved some of the liquid for later). Then a fillet or two of fish. When that's all cooked through put in sour cream and some broth to get a good consistency (and balance the heat). Break up the cooked fish and mix it all together. Last night I used Swai and served it over orzo. Turned out very well.
I want to try that white pizza. I'd rather use baker's yeast or a sourdough starter though. Is there a way to make that work? Also, I totally have a 12-inch cast iron skillet and I love pan pizza!
