I've been pretty insistent about being able to summon all three allies for each battle I come across. Like, annoyingly insistent. However, having allies does not stop the evil that is Time Travler. I might have only been level 3, but that thing was mean with a capital "M".
lol, yes, actually I'm pretty sure that's one of the most difficult enemies available in the general game. Others to watch out for might be Lord Tapeworm, Hellmaw and the Train of the Dead. It took Shaina(who painted the game over) three tries to beat the latter.
Middens
-If the Nomad dies and your proxies finish the battle it is intentional that you reach gameover. Your proxies can either revive you to continue the battle or self destruct using the exeunt commands to end the game. The proxies are only projections of yourself(that's what a chakra is) so naturally they cannot live long without you.
-If you're having trouble finding items use your 'Acoustics' ability. There's a ton of hidden items and secret doors that can be uncovered this way.
-Picking a fight with an enemy is intended to be a tad like Russian Roulette, just as it would be if you were picking a fight with someone on the street...except this is a street crossing an inter-dimensional portal. Be cautious and save often as the game recommends you do if you need to be rehealed. Your proxies begin with replenished health and nerve everytime they are revived.
-There's 207 hand made creature portraits in the game and only very minor enemies are duplicated and even those are extremely infrequent.
-You can gain experience by exercising.
-If you lack abilities you should go worm hunting as there's hundreds to be located in the rift and all of them have battle attributes.
-The bartering NPCs will trade you valuable items
-The gun will speak to you based on specific rooms being entered. It gives you clues on its back story and the setting of the game.
-Although Middens does have an easily attainable ending it doesn't have so much an objective goal as an objective realization. The desire to create it was primarily spurred by the popularity of gun related violence in games. It is in a way a parody of games that demand the player to use weapon related dominance to resolve conflicts. The game's conclusion begins where most murder sprees end.

author=Marrendauthor=FugueAre both of you aware of how to use the proxy characters (Om, Lam, Yam)? You can summon three at once if necessary and the game's strategic gameplay is largely geared around their use. One tip I could have is the spell 'Dart'. It is in my opinion one of the best protective status conditions in the game. By the way:
this is an incredibly beautiful game over screen
i wish it was easier to avoid seeing it so often
Om represents your third eye chakra and is mainly your healer
Yam represents your heart chakra and is mainly your negative status inducer
Lam represents your physical body and is the most physically powerful of the three.
Perhaps I should write a player's guide sometime in the future.
Version 1.9 now available
Another possibility is that the folder was decompressed when you tried to launch the application. If the folder is zipped please right click and choose 'extract all' to unlock its contents. I noticed that this error appeared only when I attempted to use the executable while it was still zipped.

Dear Clareain,
Did you notice whether the 'scripts' file was present in the root game folder? I wasn't able to imitate the hiccup on any of my home computers so my inkling is that its probable that your download corrupted. If you like I have uploaded a second copy of version 1.9 just incase. If you feel inclined let me know if redownloading the new copy works.

Marrend,
There are multiple endings but to reach them you first are required to engage and defeat thirty of the game's creatures. There are close to three hundred unique creatures that can be uncovered and fought throughout the game and to initiate into the ending areas you have only to defeat 10% of these. What ending you uncover is based off a host of other tacit factors centered in your choices.

Are you familiar at all with the games Midden's pulls inspiration from such as Saga Frontier, Panic!, Amiga's Weird Dreams, Yume Nikki or even Super Columbine RPG?

i was just popping in to say that the name of this project is the shit
except everything about this project is the shit
like, this is exactly the kind of game i would have made if i had the latitude/time/patience/willpower/artistic talent to make exactly the kind of games i want.
l'edit:The word ‘Midden’ describes a littered space strewn with the detritus of a departed civilization. The dimension wherein the game takes place is one composited from the remnants of a collapsed world and therefore, in a sense, a midden. The life that abandoned structures assume after their intended occupants have left is emblematic, I feel, of a sort of enigmatic magic. These forsaken places seem to teem with strange spatial energy and embody a lesson, I think, about time’s power to repossess whatever it wants.

Great thanks Fugue.
Middens
Marrend,
If you're stressing about what to do then Middens is probably not for you. The intention of the game is exploration and discovery and it isn't intended to be played in the style of a strict directive. You can releax--- there's no "correct" way to play Middens because it is deliberately open ended.
