Release Something Weekend
Yeah, I know. My point's that, being the official RPG Maker site, they're as much a marketing enterprise as anything else -- and allowing games made in other engines to steal the spotlight on their hosted space is not profitable, because it draws attention away from their own products. I don't know where the explanation about copyright law came from, but I think that was at the very most an afterthought when they made the decision. Beyond, like, SMBX, copyright isn't going to be a blip on the radar.
(as we all know the official game creation site is rpgmaker.net. RIGHT GUYS???)

Should Fanon(fan-made) type games get their own special search request?
I think you might be the only person on earth who classifies any game with ripped graphics as a fangame, amerk.
As for where the line's actually drawn, everybody's going to put it somewhere slightly different. I don't think that the staff here police the other genre tags, though, so it shouldn't be a problem here either. As long as the creator considers it a fangame, and puts that tag on it, then it's working as intended.
e: And yeah, a Non-English tag or whatever could be nice. I don't think many people would be searching for it (they'd probably be more interested in finding games in specific languages rather than "Non-English" as a blanket category), but having that information on a game's page sounds useful.
Although, thinking about it, maybe language could use its own field? Nothing fancy, just a little box for text so people can be specific.
e²: vvv I know that's a joke and all, but that would be a nice thing to have at some point down the road. If we have a tag for non-english games, people might want to exclude things under that tag from their searches.

Me wonders what everyone prefers. Open world, or linear/pure story?
I usually find open-world games a little lacking in, like, stuff to actually do. People pad out the content with a lot of samey things, and I find myself wishing they'd spent a little more attention to the details. Things like Fallout: New Vegas are nice exceptions, though.

Legality has nothing to do with their choice not to accept projects made in Unity, Stencyl, Game Maker, flixel, Construct, etc. They are the official site, so their primary concern is promoting their product.

"Note that only games made in RMXP, VX, Ace and IGM are allowed on RMW..."
Well, fuck those guys.
ugh I know right? CORPORATE INTEREST

Anyway, could I finish Riot Grrrl in a month if I really tried? Probably. Would I have enough time to do thorough testing? Nope. Shame. Probably best not to release at the same time as a load of other stuff, anyway :)
Yeah, I don't think anyone's expecting people to put out a major release for this since those take so much time. Demos and completed side-projects, though, sure.

The Screenshot Topic Returns
I personally find it kind of annoying when a game places a pause at the end of every sentence, unless the text already scrolls pretty fast and the pause is really negligible. I'd recommend saving pauses for when you want to really emphasize something -- at all other times, just let the player read at their pace. They'll fill in the rhythm of regular speech themselves.

on the first day he slept instead of making anything
(I didn't sleep at all last night and spent the entire morning dancing, sue me)
(my submission to make something weekend will in fact come in the form of a dance. please look forward to it.)
