DOING IT!

Week the third.

DOING IT! is a community event ran each week where a prompt is given and those who wish to fulfill it post their work here. It is entirely optional, you may join at any time - even after a week has finished. Feel free to post as many pieces as you like. Feedback is encouraged.

DETAILED EXPLANATION/QUESTIONS/SUGGESTIONS HERE

RULES
- Post your work in the thread, preferably with some small explanation about it. Whether that be about any troubles you had fulfilling the prompt, how you went about it or how you think it turned out is up to you.
- Feedback is highly encouraged, but optional. No flaming please. Constructional critique is preferred. If you see a piece without feedback, consider leaving even a line about it. Keep feedback polite.
- Keep posts on/in topic. Try not to get too off-track, please.
- "Borrowing". As these threads may include both original graphical and musical creations please ask the creators instead of just adding them to your 'collections'. If authors don't mind adding full works, go ahead, but partial works are also encouraged. If someone states in their post that they do not want their work used, please try to refrain yourself from grabbing with your grubby hands. It makes you look like a fool and a thief when others' point it out. People have been given bad reputations and ostracized from communities for doing this.
- You may add to this topic at any time. A link to this and the other weekly topics to come will be added to the main topic each week. Feel free to add new work to any of them at any time.

If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas for prompts please see the
original thread.

PROMPT: GETTING TO KNOW WHO?
Take five NPCs and give them a back-story. They could be anything: the greeter in a town, the kings second-cousin twice removed, a historic/mythical hero or a block that you have to jump over/push. Their story as elaborate or simple as you wish. Let's get to know the unknown populace - the usually characterless faces that decorate the background of the tale.

WEEK THREE: GETTING TO KNOW WHO?

LouisCyphre
can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games
4523
Jormungandr
A fiend and Centurion in the service of the Polemarch. He is lowly, as far servents of the Polemarch go.

Anansi the Spider
A man of great knowledge who lived for so long, he became a spider. In this day and age he travels in silence, dejected at society's collective rejection of his wisdom.

Set
The chancellor to the Polemarch. He aided his master in winning his love, even while he desired her himself.

Doppelganger
One of the least savory of the Polemarch's vassals. He is renowned for his abilities, but perhaps even better known for his demeanor; his attitute is said to resemble rotten fruit.

Apep
Embodiment of evil and eternal nemesis of Ra, Apep is held at bay by Horus, defender of the heavens and stalwart enforcer of celestial justice.
Well, in Think Outside the Box, every character is essential, although they are very characterized without much back-story. What you see is what you get.

Lord Princeton Brickbrack the Third, King of Boxlinton
Lord Princeton Brickbrack the Third, King of Boxlinton(henceforth referred to as “Your Lord”)(featured to the left) is a nasty, forceful box with a snazzy monocle. Whether he is lord and king or not is up in the air, as these are very clashing titles, but if he is either of these he fits the role well.

I'm happy with the reactions I got from people about him. The general opinion is that people want his head smashed in with a crowbar. (Which of course can be done, but all that happens is it comes up with a few boxes of text, one of which is glitchy. =/)

Bull
Bull is by far the nicest character in the game. Skills include getting angry at the colour red, charging and speaking small amounts of English.

Bull may not be his name, as through the entire thing he is actually referred to as “the bull”. He ties in nicely with my idea of having any character in anything that speaks in another language/with a strange accent start speaking in fluent English at some point. As the wise Bull once said, “Moo!”.

Indiana Stone
Indiana Stone is some sort of adventurer-cowboy hybrid. He's searching for the Ancient Pin-on Badge of the Egiftians(you know, the ones that built the pyramids?) which just happens to be in about a five-tile radius of him, just sitting there. He's kind of selfish, I suppose. He's really just another obstacle. I'm still pretty happy with his character, though.

Incidentally, the similarities between him and Indiana Jones are minimal.

Block
Block is very loud, and very angry, over absolutely nothing. He's also stupid, and jealous. He speaks IN ALL CAPS like this, and breathes fire when provoked.

Before Think Outside the Box was about... boxes, Block was actually a dragon, hence the fire-breathing. His design is very simple. He's just a box with angry eyes. I think this represents him perfectly- no depth whatsoever, just anger.

Ghost
It is a mystery!

Priestess of Tar' Jahri
The priestess is the head of the church of Tar' Jahri, in charge of all it's doings. She has survived for over two hundred years by praying to the gods to let her live longer, yet still manages to look young. Abandoned by her parents at an early age, she struck out to find a force to comfort her and the priests of Tar' Jahri took her in. She seems to be the only person who really understands the mysterious "Gathering".

Theo
Theo was once a powerful guard, he carried a spear and a shield into battle and was always victorious. However, a jealous wizard locked him into an demonic underworld prison. He is now a powerful necromancer, and one of the only people in this world who is still alive.

Yelean
Yelean is the head of a small band of wizards known to as the Malguild. He appears to be the founder and instructor, but that is very unclear. The Malguild are magical assassins at this point, they go around and kill the leaders of other powerful magic groups.

Kekale (Pronounced Kek Aylay)
Kekale is a powerful priest, he is the head of the temples of Pendonia. He is practically in command of all other churches and temples in the world. For some reason, he refuses to let Christina, his best apprentice, go to the meeting at Tar' Jahri. As she finally confronts him, he relays a powerful secret about his relationship with the leader of the Malguild.

Ghost King
The Ghost King was probably once a sorcerer, no one can tell. He may have just died, gone to hell, and have become evil, or he may have turned himself into what he is. Nevertheless, he is now a deadly ghost sorcerer, intent on only one goal: Bringing every human trapped in his underworld to a painful death. He chases our heroes throughout the underworld, and constantly will send minions to do his bidding.

I hope that someone has enjoyed reading this, this is a preview of 5 important NPCs in our next game: The Master of Souls Act I: A Gathering. Although, two of these characters only come in Act II. I hope you enjoyed this, and please check out this game (If you are interested) when it comes out.
Princess Meliel

Losing her mother at a young age has made Meliel a quiet-spoken, gentle creature whose general personality is rather glum and pessimistic. Though proud of her ancestry, she's no leader, nor is she strong willed or opinionated. In fact she's fairly gullible and easily swayed, and though she has a kind heart, she is quite selfish.
Her reaction to becoming Queen after her fathers' death is that of annoyed acceptance - she realizes there is nothing she can do to prevent it, though she really just wishes that the world (in general) would just leave her to her daydreams. In fact, she is passively against any action to take back the capital, going so far as to resist Clarissa's help by keeping up a stubborn silence and uncharacteristically willful defiance, which in the end leads to her untimely death.

Jenk

The son of a warrior and priest, Jenk followed in his mother's footsteps and began honing his fighting skills at a young age. After the death of his parents in a foresting accident he loses the track for a while and begins to
drink heavily and does odd jobs for money.
He meets Imeldra on a simple quest and she takes a liking to the joker which he returns. A few days later he'd drunk her allowance, given her plenty of loving and lies about his magical feats... as well as a bonus in the womb. She leaves and he disappears on one of his missions.
Many years pass to find him as a general in the king's army... which has just been obliterated by Imeldra's and his son. Discouraged, he meets a seer who tells him that he must take responsibility for his actions. He goes to Imeldra's castle where he witnesses the death of his son. Swearing on the life of his son that he will destroy all vestiges of his past life, he sets out to kill Imeldra. Doing so, he buries her and their son together before taking his own life, contemplating the uselessness of his situation and that perhaps it would be best if Imeldra's plan had worked after all.

Ewan Hardsgrove

As a lad Ewan was a carpenter and woodsman. As he grew older he put his strength to use fighting monsters in the nearby forests and travelling to Selva as a merchant of monster goods. Having never found time for a wife, he eventually settled down as a teacher at the local orphanage/school. There he teaches woodcraft, fighting and general carpentry to all that wish to learn.
A quiet man, he is not particularly close to anyone, though many spinsters, widows and single women consider him to be communal ogle property. Ironically, he considers himself to be fairly close to most of the students under his care, though only a few (including Narissa) reciprocate the feeling.
He and Master Greym are usually at odds about how to look after some of the more willful children, though they both tend to agree that Narissa is a bit too outgoing for her own good.

Hilda 'Cook' Maqueesh

Hilda, though commonly called Cook by all that know her, is the chef of the Greystone Bridge Inn, on the western shore of the Greystone River, east of Selva. Usually a quiet place, she nonetheless knows all the travelers that go to and from Selva. She's quite happy and generous and only too glad to give assistance when it's necessary. She has a rather large crush on Sir Ewan, the woodcraft/fight teacher from Louva and is quite happy to tell her customers all about him whether they want to know or not.

Ink Mayery

The manservant of Lord Tetteli, he's really quite a ditz and loves hearing his own voice. Though annoying to his employer most of the time due to his incompetence and over-flowery speech, he is a genius at number-crunching and dealing with other lords - which is probably the only reason Lord Tetteli keeps him on. He's really a nice guy all in all, but he tends to come off as a bit boorish and holier-than-thou at times, which makes him his own worst enemy when trying to make friends that aren't noble.
For a guy that likes to talk about himself, he really doesn't say much about his history. In fact, any history prior to his employment for Lord Tetteli is unknown except for the fact that he traveled from the continent to take up said post.

Chaos, I really liked your short but sweet descriptions. I need to learn how to be more brief like that.

A quiet man, he is not particularly close to anyone, though many spinsters, widows and single women consider him to be communal ogle property.

Totally saw a bunch of middle-aged women ogling a poor guy in my mind, and lol'd. I really liked Meliel, Ewan and Hilda. :) Nice descriptions, Liberty. Jenk's description left me a bit confused, though I guess it would make more sense in context. Are these characters from a particular game you're working on?

Leonir von Domtrau, 36
The son of Sepp von Domtrau, the former head of the Domtrau house. Leonir has a brilliant mind that is poisoned by his own neuroses. His father Sepp was killed by Gela Yala, and to this day Leonir has been preoccupied with taking revenge on Gela's kin (who he soon discovers to be her only living relative and daughter, Myunh). To this end, he actually had his aged grandfather, who had replaced Sepp after his death, euthanized in an attempt to assume his “rightful” position as the head of the Domtrau household; however, the elders of the family chose to appoint Leonir's mother instead, claiming that Leonir was too young (but in fact did so because of his apparent instability). Needless to say, this has frustrated him enough to side with the more radical members of his clan to overthrow his own mother. Desperate to gather allies who would support his ascent to power, Leonir has also revived alliances which were originally forged by his father (but never utilized because of his premature death), and has even managed to secure the friendship of the mysterious Brüderretter organization.

Anna-Maria von Domtrau, 54
Leonir's mother, and the current head of the Domtrau house. She is a level-headed and intelligent leader, but some, including her own son, think she is not aggressive enough in ensuring the Domtrau family's place as a powerful Heimlian family and seek to have her removed in favor of Leonir.

Maximilian Fehould, 39
The head of the Department of Genetic Development in Sinolor who partners himself politically with Dion Falma. He is criticized by some and praised by others for his treatment of Oathguards as little more than weapons to be used by the state. Though his methods seem cold at times, he has his reasons. Namely, he wishes only for what is best for the stability and prosperity of Sinolor and her people, no matter the immediate cost or moral ambiguity. His appearance is quite different from a typical Sinolorese, and it is rumored that he has Sudernian blood. His family is also rumored to be connected to the Church of Thasa. A secretive and laconic man, he doesn't seem to trust anyoneâ€"not even himself.

Julya de Pauer, 28
A granddaughter of a former Regent, she is a staunch ally of Alrion and the Oath Order, and represents the support of her family and their allies' of the Order. Her sharp political mind and eye for detail make her an indispensable adviser for Alrion, and her close relationship with him hints at something more.

Leep Hagum, 23
Leep is a timid young Oathguard who was Thelmont and Myunh's friend in Academy, and has a rare talent for curative thaumaturgy. It is this skill alone that has kept her career afloatâ€"her passive and introspective nature make her a poor Oathguard, and she is constantly struggling to keep up her image as one, if only to keep from shaming her family name. Understandably, Leep feels that she does not belong in Sinolor, and dreams of one day traveling to a land where she can be free of the duties that come with being a Sinolorese Oathguard. Often, she is mistaken for being younger than she is.

I am excited to make a game page and talk more about the Player Characters, too. :3
This is a good event. DOING IT in general, I mean. I've had fun with this one. I'm working on two prequels to my main game, these are from the one I've almost never mentioned. Mostly fairly minor characters. Criticism welcome etc.

Background: game is set in a city in a country called Orville. Soldiers from the country of Leyland occupy it at one point. The Great War was 4 years ago.

Mr. Brydon Norfolk
Brydon is the current reporter assigned to the Leylandian House of Commons Anti-Corruption Committee, and a friend of chair Remiel de la Croix. With a very middle-class upbringing and being a school-leaver at sixteen, Brydon learned to exercise natural charm and finesse to get where he wanted to in life, and got work on a number of local papers before being recruited into the Anti-Corruption Committee. Sent to accompany the Leylandian occupation of the Orvillian capital and make sure that it's all above board, Brydon is a kind, helpful man who comes to the aid of the protagonists more than once. The game that this is a prequel to has revealed that Brydon was, unfortunately, killed inbetween the events of the prequel and the main game.

Private Clifford Hartland
'Cliff' is a low-level twentysomething soldier, sent over in the - essentially peaceful - Leylandian occupation. Almost immediately striking up a fierce rivalry with an Orvillian private he met, Cliff is immature, hot-headed and single-minded. He sees himself as a loveable goof. Most other people see him as an exceedingly unpleasant man. In his youth Cliff was home-educated, and it was actually his terrible mother that he learned his selfish braggadocio from, rather than any kind of masculine influence. They were never able to convict her of fraud due to lack of concrete evidence. He seemingly made it through the entire Great War without any real injury, and has remained in the army ever since.

Private Hahn Gerhard Krause
Hahn is the Orvillian soldier that Cliff antagonises night and day. But it's fine; though the more mature of the two, Hahn gives Cliff more than enough trouble back. Soldiers from both sides of the occupation have commented on how these two, whose armies were clashing on the battlefields merely four years ago, are now waging bloody war against each other through the medium of minor buearucratic setbacks. Hahn had intended to be a great playwright or actor earlier in life, but foresaw the war coming and joined a protected trade to avoid conscription. He did, however, join the army in the postwar period, feeling that the lifestyle would give him an experience he duly needed and help him grow as a person. Then he met Cliff, and it didn't.

Mr. Heribert Mueller
Mr. Mueller owns the hardware shop where the protagonist works. A very 'hands-off' proprietor, Mueller lets our hero manage the shop, while his days are mostly filled with talking four-hour long strolls around town and reading trashy novels in his office. He was conscripted in the last few months of the Great War, but was assigned to one of the few units given experimental pistols and quite soon had lost three fingers in his right hand due to an accident. He was in a field hospital, practicing to write with his left hand, when news came of the war's end.

Mr. Ekkehardt Grutter
Mr. Grutter is an ambling, out-of-it, middle-aged-to-old man with a slightly sinister way about him and a very mean face. Every time he's in Mueller's hardware store, he's buying packs of nails for an increasingly-worrying unknown purpose. Apparently he's actually very kind, but there's not really any evidence to substantiate this.
Ohh, I'll join 'w')b

Kyrie
The enigmatic cheshire cat that loves to pop out in random places. Her backstory is unknown but she seems to know a lot about the existance of Wonderland. She has this habit of surprising or trying to terrify Hansel, whenever s/he is searching for something.

Cesare
Lazy genius who loves to lay around on flowers and mushrooms. He loves to smoke and insult Hansel whenever he has the chance or belittle her/him. But he does give valuable hints to Hansel to find whatever s/he is looking for.

Hannah
The rat that keeps insulting the Mad Hatter and Hansel as well. She means well though. Most of the time, she saves Hansel on the time of need and then denies that she's doing it to help Hansel. She likes vegetables and would often ask Hansel for them in exchange for her "good will."

Cassandra
The white-red rabbit that seems to be always on rush. She would occasionally join the Mad Hatter for a cup of tea but never really paid attention to him. Her attention seems to be with the March Hare whom she has a huge crush on. She speaks to Hansel in a respectful manner, almost like they were close friends.

Samantha
The March Hare. She loves to hang out with the Mad Hatter for a cup of tea, she prefers to drink booze most of the time though... She likes to eat sweets and would offer tea most of the time. She doesn't like it when the Mad Hatter takes away her booze.

Some ideas that have been floating around my head:

Chojiro
An odd fellow who tries his best to relate to the modern tastes of his students while teaching them the classics. He mostly successful, too.

Massaki
A meek fellow who lives constantly in the shadow of his outspoken sister. While his sister is prone to violent resolution of conflicts, Massaki is more prone to diplomacy.

Sataro
The Principal is seen as stern and not easy to get along with. Yet, much wisdom is hidden within him.

Mina
A young woman who is much wiser than her appearance suggests. She relays various tactics the players can use on enemies, and serves as respite from the chaos of the world.

Ichiro
A crazy old man that has been known to have "conversations" with inanimate objects. Never really sure of himself, he almost always uses "I guess", or like statements.

Kudo Marsh: Age: 34
A formerly renowned poacher who ended up becoming mayor of a small town after an undisclosed settlement with the world government. Many citizens worry about his fascination of reptiles and wonder if it is good for his health.

Shori's RX-15 Sureshot Rifle:
A particularly large rifle secretly bought by Shori when he was 12. Once a fairly powerful weapon, but hasn't been properly cared for. Despite Shori's "interesting" uses with it, it serves as a reminder of his past hunting days .

Ele Dread:
First assigned to Nico during her career within the Abyss (Hell). This dreadful scythe spills the essence of death upon anything it touches and was used to torture prisoners. She grew fond of the weapon and managed steal it keep it when she was transferred to the Holy Celestian Corp. (Heaven)

Espedia:
A stimulant that increases the SPD stat by 1. The World Government keeps strict regulations on this product as one of the former presidents of Kastelahn committed suicide by consuming grand amount's of Espedia. To this day, his survivng wife blames the producers of this product and continues to push for a ban.

The 50% off Coupon:
This highly rare coupon can be used and accepted within any common store to receive 50% off your total purchase. Highly advance store scanners are installed in many stores that can easily find fakes. Thus, trying to copy one of these, or printing one of the internet is useless.
Duncan Randers
A member of the White Knights of Dal Hold. He fights with the strength of 20 men. In his 20's he was an assassin. He killed many Elder Council Members until he finally stopped his murderous career and became a White Knight of Dal Hold.

High Mage Daro
The High Mage of The Circle. He and Duncan were both assassins.

Ragnar Tyran
Valen's father and creator of the Divine Enforcers.

Aero Devante
Leon's father. He was a bounty hunter before he joined the white knights of Dal Hold.

Town Greeter of Deneram
The Town Greeter of Deneram. He used to be a mage of the circle before the "incident".

Absentminded Charles
Charles is Club Theta's bartender, though not a very good one -- he's prone to forgetting orders. He has a penchant for gossip and an aversion to children; that's how he explains his choice of profession. Rumours abound among the regulars that he has an estranged son.

Marmora, Queen of Winter
This icewyrm is the cardinal spirit of winter. Her deity-like presence in texts both ancient and modern has led some scholars to believe she lies hibernating in the City of Slumber. It is said that she once defeated Bielobog, King of Spring, in bloody combat, and that she has not drawn blood since.

Brazen Algus
The single-eyed Algus is one of Club Theta's most popular and most detested regulars. He tells of destructing demons with his bare hands, surviving for days on nothing but moss, and felling 18 men with the sweep of an axe. The other regulars say he lost his eye in a drunken knife fight, but he argues the contrary.

Lonely Calliope
She became a shopkeeper to meet new people. She's never been much of a social butterfly, and her otherworldly appearance doesn't do much to help her out. Even the slightest suggestion that she looks out-of-place makes her feel anxious and uncomfortable. She loves peaches, wet places, and joyful music.

Adroit Jeff
The bibliophile that runs the Institute of Violent Engagements. It's actually just a shed he bought to put all his books regarding combat techniques in. While his friends affectionately refer to him as 'Skillsmaster Jeff', it's a misnomer; in fact, he's rather clumsy. In another life, he'd make a great tactician.
Ooh, i,ll join too!

Sir Bram Malifact
Once a mighty paladin of a justice who swear to protect the peace and innocent, but became a deathknight after being corrupted by the "Unholy Ring of Retribution" which has the power of turning everything in darkness and corrupts even the most innocent people and turns them into the most sick minded devils that only hell ever had.

Sir Malificia

Sir Bram Malifact's younger sister who decided to became a paladin like it's brother after finding that he became a follower of darkness, hoping that, one day she will gather riches and much power, good enough to use them to free his enslaved brother from the darkness (which already has taken a liking to him, and decided it would be fun to have a fallen paladin as a puppet for their dirty work against his own will) and destroy the cursed ring.

Natsuru Senou

Natsuru Senou is an average looking young man who is an unpopular among the girls and the boys, that's why he spends the most of his time with his dog, Mafic but who also doesn't like Natsuru even if he tries so hard to be liked by him. Also he has a illness called "Tetai" in which if he gets depressed his mind and body stops. That is and why he lives with his uncle which is a doctor by coincidence and his aunt which takes care of Natsuru' psychic mood so that he won't get depressed.

Dezz Bryant

Dezz Bryant is a honorable fighter and famous because of his special power ,but he has a dark past.He came from a poor village where everyone lived in dirt and misery.Nobody was happy and the work was hard, yet they hoped that for a bright future for their village. One day, Dezz was supposed to fight for his first time in a death match where only one of two survived. This fight would also change the village's future for a better one or a worse one.But since Dezz wasn't a good fighter, he was critical wounded from just a strike. That moment, right before the final blow, Dezz's dark blood turned into pure gold .When his adversary saw that,he fled in terror. After that event, he was called the "Golden Phoenix" because after his blood turned in gold it somehow revived him and changed him.

Izanagi No Okami

Also called as Izanami on short, he comes from the mythological stories in which he is recalled as a god.But it seems that he is Natsuru' protector called from the deeps of his heart to guide Natsuru on the right path and make sure that he won't be defeated by some monster because he knows that Natsuru is destined for a greater future.
