How hard can it be to not laugh at a shriveled penis?
I remember the first time I took health class there was a penis model that sat on a table right next to me and I'd always look over and there it was! A dick in my face... I remember I was asked to hand her the dick and I actually couldn't hold in my laughter.

It was pretty detailed though.

Do we seriously need another Yume Nikki game? Doesn't everyone know that it's not special if you can make the whole damn thing in literally a day? Fuck.

I don't give a shit about your MS-Paint world. Also, this is like the one thing in all of RPG Maker that pisses me off more than anything. It makes me Pizza-pissed.

And yes, I did play the game before I crucified it. I was browsing in the hopes of finding something worth playing and found this highly-rated marvel of design.

EDIT: I made this in a few minutes. Please note that I:

1. Didn't care.
2. Have no pixel art creating experience.

Yeah, if there are 50 distinct games with the same name in the title or description, I probably don't want to play it.

I laughed so fucking hard at this. Thank you.

It's also, as Liberty also stated, downright insulting that "her man" (who has no fucking clue what women go through and what all details "down there") will teach her how to do anything. For him, as my mother puts it, "it's just a hole for him to stick his dick in."

EDIT: But don't take my word for it; I'm just a man.

Like anything else in a relationship, sex is all about communication and learning and honesty. Depending on the couple, sometimes you're the teacher, sometimes you're the student, sometimes you both bring new things to the table, sometimes you're both fumbling in the dark and one of you falls out of the bed and you both crack up laughing. It shouldn't have anything to do with gender. There are women out there who are into porn-style sex, but yea, I think that the vast majority of porn gives people a bad and almost ironically traditional (masculine) view of how sex is supposed to work.

But you didn't listen. This would imply that a man knows what it takes to please a woman more than the woman would inherently know being one with her body.

It's hard not to laugh at sex and genitals and stuff! Maybe it's just 'cuz it's so weird and kinda taboo? I remember seeing pictures in my Health class book when I was kid and chuckling, ha.

Ah, I didn't mean to imply that men have some innate control or sense of how to please women. What I mean is that it depends on experience - y'know, like, if someone is new to that sorta thing, there's a good chance they're not gonna know what to do! At some point we are all totally inexperienced. Without getting into details, it's very possible for someone else to teach you something you didn't know about your body, at least in my experience >__> It's not really physically possible to learn everything on your own, gender be damned.

I can smell the salt coming from these OneShot posts, though, jeez.

I liked (what I played) of Yume Nikki, which I know is not what you're taking issue with but all the fangames made from that. One that I looked at seemed pretty lame (adding really obvious drug references like mushrooms and weed leaves *eye roll*). I liked the concept, tone and graphics of Yume Nikki a lot, but I would never want to make a game like that. Mostly because I know it would be really bad; throwing in x amount of "weird" stuff and endless wandering does not a good game make. I liked Yume Nikki because of the strange subtext that was ambiguous enough to be taken as general subconscious fears/thoughts (like the giant penis monster thing) although they could also be interpreted as being specific events relating to the protagonist. I thought it was cleverly done but I don't think I could emulate that. So I don't know really why there are so many fangames. I guess because they have a less restrictive logic because they're based in dreamworlds so basically "anything goes"?

What really pisses me off is insipid "cute" anime heroines in (mostly horror, but other genres too) games. Pigeon-toed, clueless, dazed looking girls dressed as children dressed up as women style characters. I just hate them. If you must have a female child protagonist in a horror game, why not a Ghibli style girl who is resourceful, mature and intelligent?
edit: granted, I'm being pretty judgemental seeing as I haven't really PLAYED any of these games. But if I see a cutesy "little scared girl" character in a horror, it's disconcerting and puts me off playing the game.

Regarding sex ed:
My highschool class was subjected to a lame sex ed retreat when we were all 17/18. I think sex ed way earlier than that would be much more helpful, though I guess talking about that stuff at any point in a late child/teen's life is helpful.

In art school I was completely dazed (being the bashful lady that I am) when a dude who I thought was a new classmember got naked in the centre of the room for life drawing. He was completely all-over body bald, had weird piercings on unusual parts of his body like his stomach and collar bone aaaand... I struggled really hard not to laugh. I was the youngest person in the class so I had to try to display some level of decorum.

The only thing I'm "salty" about is bad design. I don't see anything wrong with that.

IDK, it just seems silly to mock a game for being inspired by / sort of like another game when we're all already making Dragon Quest clones. And Corf mocking a game for being about saving the world is... like... some level of meta-blindness that I can't comprehend.

Nobody is mocking the game because it was inspired by Yume Nikki. These games are being mocked because they generally do nothing to differentiate themselves from just being another clone of the same bloody game. I wouldn't blame Corfaisus for being sick of seeing Yume Nikki knockoffs any more than I'd blame someone for being sick of all the FF and DQ wannabes out there that do nothing for themselves and just use another shitty medieval world plagued by some demon or emperor.

I personally don't really believe OneShot is THAT much like Yume Nikki, my gripes are more to do with the fact that the gameplay is based around needlessly cryptic nonsense like every other adventure game, and you're literally forced to sit there and play it all at once just because of some gimmick.

Also please, don't insinuate that everyone on the site makes Dragon Quest clones. We really don't.
I don't get what is supposed to be bad/annoying about OneShot's art. Or MS-paint graphics :/ (maybe I misunderstood Corfaisus though)

Isn't bad RTP in a game worse than bad custom graphics...? The custom stuff is at least original (in one sense of the word).

I don't really *get* Yume Nikki and I never really have but I definitely don't share the raging vitriol being expressed up thread towards this style of game.

Also I guess I am echoing Pizza when I say that some of us (like ME! do you get it, I'm talking about ME!) aren't making Dragon Quest clones or Yume Nikki clones but some things that are completely different. But I am pretty sure you know that.

Corf did specifically, which is why I pointed out how silly it was.

It was a dumb joke, but that's kinda my point! RM pushes you to make very Dragon Quest-ish games, but despite that, so many RM games have properties and flavor that make them really unique. The fact that they're all jumping off DQ is irrelevant. An obvious example: Earthbound is very similar to DQ mechanically, but because of the wrapping and flavor, the game is a totally different experience. To that end, something that's inspired by Yume Nikki can still be really really unique and interesting in its own way.

Anyway, I love the hell out of OneShot's art - it's a nice break from the black-outlined 2k3 RTP. But yea, adventure game design is... tricky, and of course RM has a lot of limitations - you can't do point and click easily, for example. I don't know - it was a month jam game, so I can appreciate it experimenting with new art and gimmicks instead of playing it safe.

By the way, I disagree quite strongly with most (almost all) of the things said by most (almost all) people on the last page of this thread. That's...astonishingly vague, I know...but I'm afraid to go into any more detail because my beliefs obviously do not match the site's prevailing, overriding cultural positioning and the deafening roar of the shared social consensus and also out of the fear of being misunderstood (of course, I realize that clarifying and explaining absolutely nothing makes the chance of my being misunderstood about 100%, but now I can say as a blanket statement with certainty that I have explained my position SO LITTLE, virtually WHATEVER you think I think is GUARANTEED to be a misunderstanding because I have explained nothing).

And, in the end, I absolutely want to minimize the time spent arguing on the internet. But in spite of that I can't bring myself to just continuously smile and nod in the face of positions and attitudes I find pretty abhorrent: doing so feels ethically lax.
