@brandon: True, but you must admit, X-2 is the red-headed stepchild of the series

Even Final Fantasy II?
Judged by its contemporaries, yes it was probably a sweet game. It was pretty daring in terms of mechanics and had what was by contemporary standards an involved and sweeping story! It's probably the worst-aged game ever though and is totally broken and not actually fun at all.
This topic needs more squirting jokes.
Story wise FF II was a major improvement over the first though considering the opening page of text in FF I pretty much summed up the whole plot (chaos aside). I agree though it didn't age well at all!
On the topic of IV however it still seems like a bit of a blur to me and I think I owe most of that to horrible English translations (especially the fan translated japanese release!). I do remember the water fiend as being a nasty battle in the ol SNES ones although I can't remember why....

The PSP remake of it was much better than the original.

Definitely. It was pretty playable. The difficulty was kind of wonked out though and you fought the same weak random enemies for the entire game.
I don't know if that applies to the NA release or not because I imported it from Taiwan at the Japanese launch (I looooove FFII even though it sucks a lot). It has full English text even though the instruction manual is in Norse runes.
Are we free to add our own captions?
Heh heh.
(ok, comment made, now I go back to reading the front page...I'll be BACK!)

Next update coming relatively soon, I didn't forget. Also, in probably a fruitless effort to generate this 'discussion' thing I've been going on about, this is now also a general Final Fantasy discussion topic.
Discuss Final Fantasy generally and whatnot.

I don't think we really have too many of those here. I mean, you could always spark up the discussion you know.
Sure! whaddaya wanna talk about?
FF1-FF6 was the golden era. Although overall, Tactics is my favorite of the series.

Recently started playing final fantasy X again and am currently still trying to obtain all celestrial weapons. I have defeated all the aeons and dark aeons but have only collected Tidus, Yuna and Wakka's weapons.

want me to translate that for you lol
Question: Well one of the reasons I always postponed playing FFIV was that ppl always told me that there was a LOT of grinding near the end to be able to even have a chance on the final boss, so I always thought that to finish it I´d have to gather lots of time and patience (I hate grinding like hell).
So my question is: How much more grinding there is in the original game than the GBA version (heard it was easier but was hoping not too easy, just wanted less grinding but still some strategical challenge)? And is there something to be missed in either version?

From what I've played of IV, if you NEVER run from a battle, you will gain enough EXP to go through the game at a steady difficulty rating. Now if you want to just pwn things as you see them, then you will definately need some grinding. Let me tell you something, dude, my hubby can attest to this: I HATE GRINDING. I will jump into battle as soon as I get to it because I'm playin' for a story and no stupid Demon Wall will keep me from it. Unless I really like a game A LOT, like say Dragon Quest VII - which practically demands it, then I won't grind.
GBA wise, I didn't need to grind whatsoever. It was the easiest remake of a FF I had ever played, even easier than FFI's easy mode in Origins on PSX. Not easier than MQ, but nothing IS easier than MQ.
Either way, I love FFIV, and you're doing great with commentary. I have finished the game a few times on all versions stateside except the DS. My personal favorite FF games are IX, IV, and VI.
Thankies there Suzu =^.^=
Well too easy is kinda bad, I don´t like to just vaporize enemies on sight, but I guess that if GBA is that easy, I can have at least some challenge if I don´t grind.
And yeah, main reason I want to play FFIV is because most ppl who like it, like FFVI =)

Well, if you want a first hand insight on it from me, FFIV IS kinda easy, but it isn't piss easy. It's still relatively challenging at some parts. We'll see as the game goes on and it gets harder; I haven't gotten to some of the famously hard fights yet.
Oh though this Let´s Play was you replaying the game, not your first playthrough, thanks for the advice :)
author=Feldschlacht IV link=topic=1303.msg37941#msg37941 date=1224022187Try the DS version.
FFIV IS kinda easy
FF4DS can be a real asshole at times.
How am I supposed to know that Stealing from Rubicante will close his cloak and stop him from murdering the party? Or what am I supposed to do against an enemy that kills the entire party except Cecil with 500HP? Or how to get augments from characters?
I guess they made up for it by making the Lunar Core incredibly easy, but each fight takes forever for being so pointless. (It probably wouldn't be easy if not for Omnicasting though)

Yeah, Augments make a huge difference. The New Game+ carries over little more than Augments (there are also some weapons and things that carry over, but they're ultra rare drops and I didn't get any), but it's so much easier. It goes by about three times faster just having Cecil with Draw Attacks, Counter, and Kick throughout the whole game.
...first playthrough, though? Move to a new area and get ANNIHILATED was basically the rule.
