SCREENSHOT SURVIVAL 20XX

Remove the black outline on the mountain for sure. Also things tend to get bluer and more grayed out as they go into the distance.
A gentle slope is usually invisible to the human eye in real life, as well, so I see no problem with connecting two flat planes like that.
That being said, the grass slopes Sated posted all all pretty good examples, although the slopes from the Pokemon screenshot rely entirely on the fact that there are side-facing slopes to reinforce the illusion (otherwise they'd just be dark blue walls).

Some work I did today on an area called "Coral Castle" from Songs from Aelsea. Obviously it's still incredibly WIP. Not totally sure about the coral + fish paintings on the castle walls at the moment or of the colours, but I think it's shaping up nicely.

In real life we have an extra-dimension to work with...
Yeah, but staring straight ahead at a hill doesn't mean we can determine its specific z axis. All I meant is that sometimes, with a fixed-angle camera, you have to rely on implying something instead of showing it.
@Pizza:
I love the wall! I'm not so sure about the moulding along the bottom (I might ditch the dark purple border along it so it is borderless, like the coral), but the coral and the fish and the colour scheme is great.

Skills that inflict a status effect (in this case Blind) always have the same animation after them as a visual indicator, so that's what the darkness thing is.
That's a pretty good idea! Tempted to rethink my skill animations.

Lookin' good so far, Pizza. I'm a fan of the coral paintings. I like the way the shadow by the door curves in, but shouldn't all the shadows do the same?
My screenshot addition for today:

Exploring a forgotten temple built into a cavern.
@Peperonni Pizza-Ahhh I love ocean related areas so much <3 Those graphics are literally killing me :O
@Ram-I think you should use shift mapping with the water ponds, and that waterfall is coming out of nowhere. There must be a source of water above in order for a waterfall to appear.

Thing is, I've seen actual paths into towns. This would not be a mountain path but more like a road. You don't put stairs on a road. You either make a bridge as a ramp or let the road slope naturally, depending on the slope. This is to allow cars or carriages in. Stairs kill the appearance of a town to everything but something people hike to in order to study martial arts at the monastery.
Urgh using a cell so it didn't show me the updated page. Should have used quotes.
Yea, the example you used was for an indoor example. The entrance to a town is usually either flat by cutting through daid mountains, or has a gradual slope. I looked at the original picture. It had a gradual slope. ...That said, looking at it, it seems the slope is arched, given where the hill starts for left/right side of the path.

The source of the water is supposed to be above the top of the map. Any advice on how to map something like that?
Well shift mapping :P liberty has a tutorial on that but I'm yoo lazy to link it :P

Well, it was supposed to be the shadow of the archway, which is only above the door. Looking at it again though, the angle of the supposed light source that's hitting the other walls would mean the door shadow should be totally flat as well.
I'll probably keep it the way it is though.

@Pizza- Its art like this that makes me jealous. Looks great, gotta love custom made art.
Thanks, guys.
After looking at the game's graphics on my actual work monitor (now that I'm home in TO and at my good computer), everything is looking a lot nicer to me. Not so shaky on the colours anymore- they were just coming out bad on my laptop.

@Dookie: A playable jacket and hat? Alright. You have me by the balls at this point.
Better said than I could ever manage to.
That faucet in the background is great. Are you planning on having any of the backdrops animate?
@Dookie and Pizza, oh also charblar: Your games are looking great! I wish you the best with them.
Oh yeah, Erave you too, lol.
So here's my plea for assistance...
Bizarre Monkey needs you! Seriously need your feedback on this, there's more to add onto it, but I just need to know how it is so far, text too fast? Not enough focus per character, lemme hear!
Also, just to note, Sven, Sped and Svoli have temporary home-made voices right now. It's likely I'll be able to do it in house, but if you're British and male, PM me (on either skype or through the systems here) and I'll letchu know what I'm sorta after. Also if your foreign sounding (as in, have an accent while being not natively born in an English country) and female, I also need you!
To voice that line and possibly more!
Okay, now that's out of the way, let's see what we got.
Would massively appreciate any critique and comments, this is the first time I've done something so character focused.
