Corporal Stevens
I'm not taking the risk! I say she dies!
Russel
No... please...
Dominic
If you don't tell them I will!
Russel
Shut up Dominic!
Listen, let her go, we'll just leave, you'll never see us again. Just let her go.

Risk? You only needed to bring one of these fellows in to talk to us, but you bring all three, and your so-called search didn't find this bite. Then you're drinking when you're supposed to be on the job. Makes me wonder if you should be making any decisions at all.
But enough of all that, jazz. You guys come in here questioning us in our home, but you keeping secrets. That ain't kosher, my man. I have an idea, mister tough Corporal, sir: Lock these three up together. 1) That ought to tell us right nuff if this girl's infected. 2) I don't like it when people cause trouble.
You come in here acting high and mighty and you ain't savory yourself. That's fine. We got places we can lock you til we can build a jail for you. You do me a favor. Find whatever religion you like, but don't talk to you us less you ready to be honest.

Another thing we ought to clarify. If you gave a monkey's left nut about risk, you'd have shot her out there and then told us about it. Dragging her in here is all drama.
And Russell, sir, you are on my last nerve. If you don't start spilling, I'm going to ask Corporal Stevens to spill all three of you.

She's immune!
Russel
Dominic! Dammit!
Corporal Stevens
That seems too convenient. I don't believe you.
Dominic
It's true it happened last week when Russel and Patricia- Where is Patricia.
Russel
Where is Patricia?! Where is my wife?!
Corporal Stevens
Oh her? My fellow guards and I had a few drinks to pass the time while we stayed at the tent with her. We decided to have her occupy our time when I heard this little one start crying, we must have startled her with all the noise we were making. I brought her over her right away, as far as I know the other guards are still having fun with your wifey.
Oh and Oba-whatever, I was told to report anything strange here to the council, so why don't you just go smack your face against your anvil?

I beg your problem? The guards are having "fun" with her? General, I think your Corporal has just elected to be a practice target for the weapons I make.

...Ugh, I didn't think I signed up for this.
I think we need to remove Stevens before we can actually act in this situation. Obviously, we can't risk her being immune and wasting this opportunity. This is beginning to become a very medical situation. General Alastair, maybe he'll listen to you?

General Sir Alastair Barret Carlisle:
CORPORAL, YOU WILL STAND DOWN THIS INSTANT!
(I pull out my gun)
You have violated direct orders for drinking on the job. If you wish to keep your head, you will comply!
I will take a team and personally stop whatever is happening in that tent. I will not stand for this.
Corporal, you are hereby demoted to Private. If you violate any further orders given to you by members of this council, you will not see the sunset. Do you understand? The next two words from your mouth will be: 'Yes, Sir' or I will shoot you where you stand!
Now if you will excuse me, I have a situation to deal with.
(If Stevens shows any sign of insubordination while I'm saying this, I shoot him.)

Jonathan McArmite:
My goodness, this situation escalated quickly! A thorough restructuring of the guard system will be unavoidable, and we will have to establish laws and regulations to prevent any further incidents like this.
But everything at its time. Russell, Dominic, I apologize for this tragedy, but you and your family will have to be brought to a safe place for your own good. Remaining guards, you must take them into quarantine, supply them with food and water, and guarantee absolutely nobody touches them unless explicitly granted permission by this council.
Dr. Galvant, please follow the General and help the poor woman who has become victim of this poison of corruption in the military. I will go outside to speak to the populace and tell them to remain calm and collected. This issue must be resolved quickly, cleanly and permanently.

(Reluctantly re-holsters his pistol, stands up straight and salutes) Yes. Sir. (Leaves)
Molly
(Runs over to Russel and hugs him. After whispering something in his ear, she runs over to General Sir Alastair Barret Carlisle and hugs him. Then runs back to her father, whilst doing so, she sticks her tongue out at Obadiah.)
Russel
I'm sorry about all of this, but you must understand I'm just trying to protect my family. there are a lot of people out there who would shoot Molly the second they saw the bite. They wouldn't believe she was bitten about a week ago. You all know that is remarkable, the longest recorded time anyone has lasted before turning is six hours.

Usually, it's near well instant. My wife turned after just three minutes. It's why I didn't think shooting your little girl was the right choice. But I tell you this, it's still cause for concern. Back before the walkers, I used to keep cats. One day, one of my babies came down sick. I took her to the vet and she had leukemia. You know what happens when a cat gets leukemia? It ain't like in humans. For cats, it's contagious like the flu. All of my kitties died except one. He was fine. Then two years later, he came down with it, got sick and died. Can you guess why? He had it all along. He just had stronger resistance, what the doctors call a carrier, but in feline leukemia, there is no true carrier; just a cat that takes longer to get sick. We don't know the ins and outs of this infection. Maybe your little girl's immune. Maybe she's a carrier. Maybe it just takes her longer to get sick. I think it behooves us, and her, to find out.

I think we're going to need a research center with all that's happened. Thank you for handling that situation, General Alastair.

(I can't speak because I'm still handling the sexual assault in the tent. I would like to know the results.)

General Sir Alastair Barret Carlisle:
I am back. Russell, I was able to resolve the situation before it escalated. Your wife has been beaten, but I do not believe she's been raped. I have already expelled the three perpetrators from the village. I will not have my soldiers disobey orders like a bunch of undisciplined buffoons. Dr Galvant, I leave Patricia's care in your capable hands.
Now, where were we?

Xavier M. Naechum:
Nice work general, disobedient workers are a pain.
Anyways, we have a forestry and a quarry now, correct? Then that means we'll be getting 100 wood and 100 stone a month then? At least until we deplete the resources around the village. I have enough wood in my inventory to build a farm right away and I'll just need to be given 100 seeds, but it's already June, what crop do the seeds yield? I hope it's something that we can grow withing a few months. If not, we should send our scouts for more seeds that grow in such a time frame. We can't afford to build a farm that will yield nothing in return before winter. If we don't think the scouts can find much seeds, we should send them as food scavengers. Maybe they'll nab a few deer if we're lucky.
Anyways, for the council's construction, we should do the barracks next. I have plenty of metal as of now that I can give to whoever needs it. I can even stockpile it should we run low, so a mine isn't as important now.
That's my suggestion, gentlemen.

(I think the description of this location said food was available all year round, so I'm guessing we don't have to bother about winter ruining our crops? I could be wrong though.)
(Our build list says that right now, we have a forestry and barracks. So I'm thinking we should build a quarry next.)

(It says that? But I built a quarry! Do my buildings not count towards the settlement's total or something?)
(IRL even South Florida has a winter cold enough to ruin crops. A week or two out of the year, it even gets below freezing. It doesn't get cold long enough to really end growing, but it does get cold long enough to interrupt a growing season.)
Obadiah
Far as I know, there's no such thing as a seed that doesn't require at least a one full growing season to yield fruit (and really, IRL, you're hard pressed to find plants that don't require two or three year's growth before yielding fruit. If you plant a seed expecting oranges or lemons, you've got a five year wait. Watermelons, you have to wait three years. Tomatoes, at least a year.).
If we need food immediately, then instead of seeds, we need to be looking at plants that are already full grown. Don't worry; in a forest in the south, they'll be plentiful, and there may even be a few abandoned corn fields that we could annex. (Provided we're still in the United States) In the South, you've got a lot of introduced invasive species, like surimans (a really tasty breed of cherry from South America that grow on trees and bushes that fortunately aren't very large and can be transplanted with relative ease), strawberries, tomatoes. What you have to worry about, particularly for juvenile plants and small plants in general is transplant sickness. They go into shock when removed from the soil and often die. What my wife discovered specifically with tomatoes (they are especially prone to transplant sickness) is that if you keep them covered (i. e. in the dark), and she would actually put a pot over them and then dig them up, being in the dark reduces transplant sickness tremendously.
Anyway, here I am rambling on about my old garden when I should be promoting a water mill.

OP is fixed, There is a chance the weather will get cold enough to destroy crops, but otherwise in this universe you'll be fine to start growing now. however growing time is not reduced. The Scouts cannot hunt quite yet, they level up with the council's influence and will get that ability later. They can scavenge for food though.
