Knowing when to call, raise or fold is all a part of the game. And I think this is when risking it all isn't worth the payoff.
My evidence was just updated. My client isn't protected from night kills. Whoever I pick can't be affected by other night abilities, but can be killed.
So I don't think it's worth risking our detective at this stage of the game, because there's a strong chance mafia would attempt a night kill anyway. I mean, I would, if I was mafia.
Being straight with my abilities here is fine, because I don't intend on revealing my client anyway.

Any mafia would take any free chance to get rid of a g-man breathing down their necks. That's why I resisted the plan from the outset. Good thing we didn't jump.

Yes, there was a reason I was hesitant to voice the plan anyway. Too many potential shortcomings. Anyway, I've reverted to my original client choice. By the next day phase, I'll know their identity.

I can't help but recall that YellowMagic was the only one interested in what Ilan had to say. Yet, when Ilan accidentally roleclaimed, YM didn't have a thing to say about it. I had hoped I was the only one who had noticed, but I'm not naive enough to think that YM didn't notice.
A couple pages ago, he came out of absolute silence exclusively to ask Puddor if she could guarantee his safety. I told him in police chat that what he had done was essentially the same as a naked woman running on a stadium green with a banner saying "I'm the detective!" but the damage had been done. I knew if town noticed, there'd be an indicator of it, but if mafia noticed, they'd keep quiet.
Actually, I myself suspected Ilan may be the detective after you came to his defense of his bandwagon jumping. Something in that exchange made me think he may have been your man, and I was right I guess.

Okay, so looking back, I can't see where he role claimed. His manner of speaking, in retrospect, was indicative of possibly having an investigative role - he kept alluding to his investigative options being limited on day one - but I took that to mean that there just wasn't enough information around to be making sound judgements, not that he had a role in particular.
At least we still have officers to be promoted to Detectives, right? ..I hope so.

Oh that? I just wrote that off as him being concerned about Detective not being protected. He didn't say "I/My", he said 'the detective' so yeah, it wasn't as much of a call-out though others probably saw more into it than I did.

Well, if I were mafia I would've killed Ilan. There was enough said for the chance of him being detective being too high. So, I'm not exactly surprised.
Plus I think everybody forgot that I have investigative powers as well, so killing Ilan is a strong move. Which was mildly amusing.

Yes, there was that, too, but Ilan had been pressing over the psychlock jokes, and YM seemed to be taking him a little seriously. YM fell absolutely silent about Ilan after I defended him, and he didn't say a word about Ilan's accidental role claim. I don't know. I still didn't expect it. But the inescapable fact is, YM is the only one that took an interest in Ilan, and now Ilan's dead. YM still might very well be town, but there's something in that.
Your defending him might also have been seen as a deciding factor - prosecution defending the detective and all. >.<

Like I said yesterday, we want to make absolutely sure we hit scum with each lynch, especially since they can increase their numbers. The more townies we hit, the more likely we are to screw ourselves over completely.
