Going into the new weekend I thought I'd update as Barbie is now firmly in the #1 spot and points have changed yet again as Mission Impossible is back on the board.

The top 10 is as follows: 1. Barbie, 2. Spider-Verse 2, 3. Guardians 3, 4. The Little Mermaid, 5. Oppenheimer, 6. Indiana Jones 5, 7. Sound of Freedom, 8. Transformers, 9. Mission Impossible 7, 10. Elemental

Which leads us to how the board looks:
1. kentona, 44 points
2. Darken, 41 points
3. frogge, 39 points
4. Shinan, 36 points
5. pianotm, 32 points
6. Dudesoft, 29 points

The changes I am still seeing on the horizon are Sound of Freedom passing Indy 5 and Mission Impossible passing Transformers. There's also a tiny chance that Elemental might pass Transformers but it's a close race, the gap is around 10 million and Elemental has been doing about 2million more a week than Transformers recently but that means it'll probably not pass Transformers before all of this is over.

Of any new releases I don't really foresee any of them cracking the top 10. TMNT would need another 100 million to get there and unless Blue Beetle has an insane opening (it won't) there aren't really any true contenders for the top 10 anymore. But placements are still up for grabs!

Only a couple of weekends left of this summer movie wager (it ends on September 4th, the same day my summer vacation ends) and... there's basically only one thing still up in the air. Will Oppenheimer (at 278million at the time of writing) pass The Little Mermaid (at 297million at the time of writing) before the season ends?

If it does that'll mean even more points for kentona.

The current top 10s are:
1. Barbie, $567 million
2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, $381 million
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, $359 million
4. The Little Mermaid, $297 million
5. Oppenheimer, $285 million
6. Sound of Freedom, $178 million
7. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, $174 million
8. Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One, $165 million
9. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, $157 million
10. Elemental, $151 million

Just outside the top 10 are:
Fast X, $146 million
The Flash, $108 million
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, $88 million

This weekend Blue Beetle opens and seems to open to similar numbers that Shazam 2 did and might get to 100 million some time in October.

When it comes to our scores it seems one person is just better than the rest of us at this.

1. kentona, 49 points
2. Darken, 39 points
2. frogge, 39 points
2. Shinan, 39 points
5. pianotm, 34 points
6. Dudesoft, 29 points

How many movies in the top 10 have you managed to see? I'm at 5/10 at the moment.

EDIT: Since the estimated weekend numbers are in I just edited in those. And from those I can see that Oppenheimer will almost definitely beat The Little Mermaid before the September 4 and that Blue Beetle opened at 25 million which is lower even than Shazam 2.
Summer is over and the results are in!

The only change from last list was that Oppenheimer did in fact pass The Little Mermaid (by quite the margin even) which meant more points for our summer movie expert kentona

The final top 10 was:
1. Barbie
2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
4. Oppenheimer
5. The Little Mermaid
6. Sound of Freedom
7. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
8. Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One
9. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
10. Elemental

Which meant the final point tally was:
1. kentona, 52 points
2. frogge, 39 points
3. Darken, 37 points
3. Shinan, 37 points
5. pianotm, 34 points
6. Dudesoft, 29 points

kentona truly running away with it in a summer that saw some pretty surprising surprises with Sound of Freedom messing it up for everyone.

Hey I'll settle for second place! I'm a bit surprised Talk to Me didn't even crack the top 10 considering it became A24 studios' highest grossing movie (surpassing Hereditary)but it did have some steep competition. Some really great movies this summer.
