THAT IS NOT RELEVANT TO THE TOPIC

This is actually a serious topic.
I was being serious (as you can be when listing off stuff in a JRPG), I actually kind of like how bad and bizarre some of the hair gets.

You also forgot how people blink and flash, and disappear when they die in the older games.

Oh and having blue hair means you don't have any personality.

poor Jayson (my avatar)

the thing I hate about these types of games is that they always take themselves so seriously, and there's like a million of them.

I prefer RPG series that have a sense of humor and their own unique style (the Mario RPGs and the Mother series) as opposed to ones that just follow conventions

Melodrama and poor presentation.

I don't think KH spelled Munny for a cool fantasy effect. I think they were just doing it to make it more Disney-ish.
I can just tell you guys will either LOVE or HATE my game.
There will be no in between.
If you hate stereotypical Jrpg's, then you're gonna be on the hate side.

The "j."

Quoted for truth.
I guess I disagree with this topic's premise. It seems to only exist only to bash a genre, which I don't find constructive. Plus, it's an overly broad and vague category. What, precisely, is a stereotypical jRPG? Final Fantasy? Breath of Fire? Dragon Quest? Suikoden? Xenogears? Star Ocean?

One jRPG trope that sometimes occurs that I dislike is the whole 'destined hero' thing, but this shows up in wRPGs too. However, me disliking something doesn't mean it's terrible.
I can say just as many bad things "What Makes Stereotypical wRPGs Terrible?" thing. For one, I'm really sick of how confusing the menus always were and how unnecessarily complicated the games were in wRPGs.

But for the moment, it's fun to poke holes in jRPGs. You've got to take it in good fun, especially on a website built mostly around a Japanese RPG Maker series.

And watch the video and tell me that wasn't bad. I mean it's animated very well and that's about all I could say.

Eh, I'm kind of leaning towards what this posts says.
The funny thing about that Star Ocean video is that it manages to take every bad sentence that these RPGs tend to do and cram it all into about 5 minutes. Probably every line in that video has been used before in some other RPG.

When you have no other outside knowledge and just take what you know from the jRPGs (even the bad) you grew up with, this is what happens. That's what makes them bad.
I also thought the characters were really chaotic. Some JRPGs I've played have tons of random races and cute characters without explaining what they are. I'm actually a big fan of half-animal characters, but the kawaii cat people in the vid with the angel people just feels too chaotic.

Now, the Breath of Fire series has every playable character a different kind of race. For example, in the first one you had the dragon guy, winged girl, fox/wolf guy, human theif, snake lady, fish guy, big ox guy, ect. All of them barely spoke any interesting lines and the story was vastly improved in Breath of Fire II along with having even more interesting kinds of characters. Demon Katt was awesome! And don't forget Rei from Breath of Fire III. Now that's how diversity among characters should be.

Unfortunately, I can't quite explain what the difference actually is and you kind of have to have played these games to know what I'm talking about.
