WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

post=139078post=139071I am familiar with Dungeon Crawlers, such as that they tend to have really nondescriptive names like "Dungeon Crawler" so I didn't know if "Dungeon Crawler" was the name of a specific Dungeon Crawler that you were referring to. Here's a less confusing version of this sentence:
Haha, to answer it: Dungeon hack is the title of the game, Dungeon Crawler is a genre :) I'm trying to learn or rather researching about some stuff about Dungeon Crawlers. It's complicated~
"I am familiar with roguelikes, such as that they tend to have really nondescriptive names like Dungeon Crawler, so I didn't know if Dungeon Crawler was the name of a specific roguelike that you were referring to."
You er, ARE referring to roguelikes such as um, Rogue, Nethack, Stone Soup, etc, right.
Anyway, I have worked on several roguelike-influenced games and I attempted to make a for-realz roguelike as a community game. (It started out well but eventually fell apart without making any real progress.)
I also saw YF bandying about some kind of crazy roguelike script (it was in Japanese) on IRC.
@Weasle:
Wait, so now you're saying this ISN'T the DBS? (Hint: I am not talking about aesthetics, only functionality. And right now functionality wise that looks like you are using a weird panorama/picture as the backdrop for the DBS.)
No, it is the standard RM2K3 Battle system, I'm saying I don't want it to LOOK like the standard RM2K3 Battle system. So far, everything except the commands look like they blend in well, thus giving off the illusion that it's not the standard RM2K3 battle system.
Oh also Weasle, I was joking earlier about Craze's games. I'm just giving him shit.
Trying to decide on other "relics" for my game. I've been playing through games like Zelda and Metroid to gather ideas.
So far, I've ruled out Jumping entirely. Hookshot seems unlikely at this point as well.
Other ideas I'm toying with:
Flippers (for swimming in any water).
Mattock (for digging into "weak" points in the ground)
Special "Suits", for safely traversing through certain areas (think Samus' Varia Suit, or Link's Red Tunic)
Clone-maker, for creating a statue-like clone of yourself, which can be pushed atop switches like a moving block.
Shrink Ray, for shrinking yourself, allowing you to go into small openings
Invis Cloak, allowing you to move through enemies and avoid combat.
Things I have already implemented:
"Fire" spell, for burning certain objects
"Earth" spell, for smashing rocks and walls
"Ice" spell, for freezing enemies.
"Shock" spell, for pushing enemies away, and activating dormant machinery
"Light" spell, for healing and lighting up dark areas
"Void" (Gravity) spell, for pulling objects closer towards you (works through walls).

Clone-maker sounds like good fun. I'd lump "breaks floors" and "breaks walls" into the same spell, though.

DBS = no good. I don't know why having the trouble of making such elaborate custom graphics and innovative visuals if you're using an overused default system.
I always have a bad taste in my mouth when playing games with the RM2k3 DBS. I always think, "Man I can't wait to get four party members and have this slow to a crawl."

Is cool, I'm a noob on these forums, so I can't tell who's joking and who isn't yet. :)

Well, because I can do one of two things, I can attempt to make a CBS, pull out what's left of my hair, fail and dump the project, OR, I can stick with the regular system at hand. I may be great with RM2K3, but no matter what, I could never figure out how to make a CBS. I've tried hundreds of times, downloaded god knows... how many tutorials, but I just could never make one. This way is faster, more accurate, easier to work with, and will look like a CBS to some degree. So to sum it up, why build a CBS, when you can make something that LOOKS like a CBS, with half the hassle?
This just saves a huge amount of time for me anyway, considering that I'm still not done with Navigation yet. Good news is that I might be finally done phase 2 Navigation by Thursday. YAY!!!
Well... ok. It's not like using the DBS is the worst idea ever, it's just that I didn't expect it from a game that looks so original and customized.
I think what really scared me is how bad the system graphics clash with the rest of the screen. You should work on new system graphics.

*Craze is currently working on the last boss of In Praise of Peace's third chapter. It summons allies to eat (hey there Horkos) and has a penchant for eating your party members, too. Thankfully, you're backed up by an old lady who randomly buffs the party!

I like this, a lot!

Max, don't worry. I'll be fixing that in the near future. 8)
Yes, please.

Well yeah, that was an issue I'm having too, it's gonna get changed.
Ok, so the only way to announce a game is to post once in a while during the production? Can't we announce it AFTER it's been done, if no one ever heard of it?
