A MONTAGE OF THOUGHTS ABOUT SEVERAL GAMES
Posts
I hated the first Wild Arms. Forgot why though, but then again, I hated all of them aside from part 2 (which I thought was excellent). I tried to play part 3 and it was crap so I stopped.
Lunar 2 was great though. Anime-heavy which didn't bother me back then because I was all of 13, but I enjoyed it much.
I love FF6, but I think fans kind of overrate it. In my humble opinion, FF7 completely blows it (and every other game in the series) out of the water. FF7's story/characters combined with FF12's graphics would be immense.
My favorite FF though was part 4, if only because that was my first RPG I've ever beaten (and Rydia<3).

All of that aside, I am still of the opinion that there has never been (and probably never will be at this rate) a better Final Fantasy than VI.

Well yeah, but when you make statements like this:you don't need a great story to have a great RPG. It's about memories.
...it doesn't really make sense.
Dude, you are being a total tool right now. This is my personal statement on why I liked those games. Embrace the simplicity of recalling your favorite games. And yes memories you have attached to some games.
Right now I have rigged my controller to auto level me in FF7. I found a spot on an island near Mideel, that when set with the right camera angel, you can hold the down button and you run left to right continously. I left it on over night and gained 20 levels.

Also I have trouble playing RPGS nowadays because I have to collect everything which makes me unable to get anywhere. Anyone else have that problem?

Don't be so sensitive! I'm just giving you the old 'mean what you say and say what you mean' advice!

I'm not being sensitive, why are you mentioning this? You're really getting too into the meta of the topic. You are totally being a tool.
The topic is about talking about your favorite games.

you're being sensitive by repeatedly calling me a tool over my thoughts about your thoughts about videogames

I know I seem to be in the minority, but I can't think of one single thing that FF6 has over FF7. I just can't.
A actual second half and nostalgia make FF7 better to me. If I didn't count nostalgia it'd be a tie really.

I quit FF7 halfway through so I couldn't say.
you quit everything that isn't DQ related. and even THEN, Mr. I-Don't-have-time-for-DQ8-because-I-have-a-baby. bah! Also, I can't belive you have the patience to acquire max monies in DQIV in the shopkeeping chapter. You floor me.
Anyway, Final Fantasy XII - seems to be another dividing factor of the fanbase. I love it, but then I haven't finished it yet. Because of the Gambit system, I always feel like each major battle is a puzzle - what combination of gambits == win. I always have mine on. I love that I can just strategically enter battles, have my characters play, and be done with it. The graphics are really emotive, I thought, and almost all of the voice acting was superb. There's a metric ton of atmosphere and world building, and the style of every object is like the best mixture of fantasy and sci-fi I've seen in a long while. The story is a bit, "run around and get stuff" but Honestly, it doesn't bother me when there's those HUNTS.
I think what I like about it is that it reminds me of MMO's. now, While I like the Idea of MMO's, I hate playing them. I like to solo, nothing else. This game let's me do that. Sure, there's a slight annoyance about needing a license before you can use or wear something, but it went away once I got all the magic i needed. And MAN, do you need money in this game or what!?
FF12's battle system was the only thing I liked about it. I'm a sucker for real-time, and the battles moved along really fast (they did for me, at least).
The game was (imo) loaded with filler, though. I wish it was a couple dozen hours shorter.

Man, one of the -best- parts about FF6 was when it totally turned everything around past World of Balance. There're few things in a game (or book, or anything) I love more than giant plot twists that completely shift the game and/or its setting like that. And especially when it makes things become open-ended. Linearity is kinda boring! and anyway, there are still rails, you just get to choose in what order you make the stops on the way to the end of the line~
other: ff5 was fun but very shallow; the mother franchise is one of the best ever; ff7's tinted like fuck by nostalgia goggles; ff8 was very good though, and the only reason i think it's hated compared to other ff games is because it gets unfairly compared to other things. if only more people enjoyed <game, book, movie, album> on its own merit rather than in contrast to <other game, book, movie, album>, i don't think anyone would really hate anything ^^

Robin William's 'TOYS' is pretty awful by it's own merits, let alone when you compare it to a competent movie.
post=117574Never. Terra with Ultima and Ring of Thamasa (Dualcast) trumps all FF6 arguments.
Wait a second, how could I have forgotten?
Vanish/Doom trumps all FF6 arguments.
Edit: I forgot to mention Cyan with Black-belt and Gengi Glove. Ooooh good times.

I have no issues with open ended gameplay, it's more like the illusion of freedom is projects to me when done in certain ways.
Once you throw the whole "freedom" thing infront of me, I know that character interaction, and the plot events that occur from this point until said "freedom" is revoked will be shallow and one sided at best; because the game needs to work no matter what order you do the events.
Rarely do games pull this sort of thing off well; I think Mass Effect and KOTOR are the only two games that have done this well... (Mass Effect especially) Though there may be others I don't know about.

Sometimes I forget who the third craziest FF6 character is
ImpAtom
Final Fantasy 6's Gau is ridiculous. You can even turn him into basically an invincible healing tank with the right Rage select. The most crazy of all, however, is the Rafflesia rage. (GBA translation here.) Rafflesia has only two abilities. A physical attack and an attack called Charm. Charm inflicts the "Charm" status on enemies, which causes them to attack themselves or their allies. Gau's Rafflesia Charm works on every single enemy in the game. Every single one, including Kefka and the GBA-exclusive super optional bosses. On top of that, Charm is unbreakable. Once it hits, the enemy is fucked. The exception are the aforementioned GBA bosses, who get around the SNES HP cap limit by "dying" and instantly respawning with full health when they take enough damage, which breaks the Charm... which you can then just use again.
Also note that unlike the Sketch trick and the X-Zone trick, this works in every version of FF3/6.
Then I remember
For the record, Cyan is #2 for the Psycho Cyan Glitch and #1 is Sabin because
