WHAT WE DID HORRIBLY ON OUR FIRST GAMES.

the worst thing i did was try to make something too ambitious for me to handle
my efforts were very well recieved for a first ever attmept though so i'm satisfied
(uncompleted demo of it available here btw, name: 'world tower')

My first game was a game adaptation of The Hobbit in RPG Maker 95. I didn't know what switches were, and consistently had to redraw maps without certain things to toggle them on and off. I actually made it to the point with the Trolls, but got fed up and tried to make a Pokemon game (which was actually the first game I ever saw made in RM95 was a Pokemon game) and it also turned out horribly. RM2000 came out shortly afterwards and I made several failed games in that, too.
LockeZ

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

People not understanding switches seems to be a common theme.
I understood them fine, myself! At least by the time I got to the second town. I wish I could remember what I did have problems with, but it was 12 or 13 years ago by now.
Oh, I remember one thing. RPG Maker 95 crashed if you right-clicked in the event window, so I couldn't delete any event commands once I'd made them. If I messed up I just made a new page! Eventually I discovered that the Del key on the keyboard worked, but my first few areas are full of 40-page events of which only 2 or 3 pages actually are used.
Yeah it was a long time ago. It wasn't that I didn't understand them, I just didn't know they existed period.
Tried to do a big story, lots of rtp and kitbash graphics, not all of which matched, mucker music, didn't get very far, then lost the original version . . pretty much explains why I haven't tried to make a game in a while.
My first game was with RPG maker 95. It had a open-world like zelda but the combats used traditional combat style. The history was around the people of my college so in the maps you found them and other things. I remeember a random walker that was a deadly enemy and a serie of tests that one include passing through a invisible tiles.
That game was very awfull, only my brothe played it, but it was fun because it had a lot of jokes.
Later i discovered 2k. With i started 4 projects. One was around my college again, but more evolutionated. Other was one with a friend, but we never really do a thing...
Other two were a game that passed in a island full of Final Fantasy mogs and chocobos, and they had strange rituals and dances, you had to explore it all.
The other was a Legends of Dragonlance rpg maker project. I think it was pretty interesting. I created my own charas and it had a animated intro using images and the dragonlance synbol ( a lance) that pushed and enter into the dragon. I created a long intro and i was trying to create a cbs...
But the problem is that im very poor and my computers allways sucked. That in particular freezed up any rpgmaker game with 1m of play. I tried other versions and the problem was the same. So, i colundt create nothing for a very long time, and later, i had a other pc, very old, that didnt frezze up but i didint have internet and the sound wasnt funcionting... anyway with that i managed to create a few projects, nothing playable of course.
When that old pc died, me and my brother worked for a few money so we can buy a new PC... for last! I started the game and later ported it to XP... but i didnt really do nothing, i just write histories and all... after a lot of years of whicked pc's i was somewhat diconnected of rpgmaker and also, i was entering in a long crisis of my life...
A lot of years later i refound rpgmaker. I created a playable game that was a dungeon-solo. It was fun i think, and very playable. The idea was to connect to my old history, and make the game modular. But i losed interests again... and then my pc broke and i losed it all.
Later i started a comic game that had 40m of gameplay. It was fun. Things that i do very bad?xdcdd, the graphics were all rtp, but that was my idea because it was a joke game for my friends. It had two dungeons. One was nice, other sucked, i designed it bad, because you had only 1 actor and battles in 2k3 are slow....
Any other project beyond that i dont consider it a newbie game...

My first ever completed game from start to finish had me as the protagonist and trying to reach a restaurant in the end, but you had to travel through cult temples and beaches with hazardous volleyballs flying around. It actually featured 100% custom graphics. No story and no shading. You basically just go from left to right of the screen.
And 11 years later, "SEKAI" came out, which now that I look at it, it's not much of an improvement sadly.

That actually sounds awesome.
Never have actually released a demo or full game at all, I've been thoughout rpg maker 2000 though VX. I'm getting tired.
I'm working on my first game right now. I'm hoping to be able to balance everything, but I know I won't be able to. I don't have enough unique stuff. Just basic RTP battle system. Trying to implement conversation trees to affect convos and events like in Mass Effect. I'll have to pay plenty of attention to keep it on track.

Yep no switches or variables in my game. Was still 2 hours long. (I had a good 20 maps of the first town...)
... Where do I start?
My first game was made roughly five years ago. It was never released, and served as a shitty test project to check out RMXP's features. It had a girl who traveled around town and fought ghosts. There was no story that I particularly remember, and it had a fairy companion and a custom-made robot. That game eventually became the dreaded Secret of Ludia, which I worked on for 2 -3 years then cancelled.
At about the same time, I made Slimy the Sahagin... Where do I start?
> Horrid mapping. I basically used the paint bucked and rectangle tool to easily make trees, lakes, and roads, making them look unatural
> I had the guts to use 1337 speak in a few cases and emoticons such as: "<3" or ":)"
> I did not have a clear audience in mind for it, either. I threw in a few f-bombs in a game that would be best suited for those 10 and up.
>A choice of music that included bleeping midis of Sonic the Hedgehog Game Gear music, mixed in with some RTP
>Just some really weird storytelling and undeveloped character personalities and... Ugh.
There was also my first joke game. It no longer exists on my hard drive, but it was called The Legend of Cockmeister. I don't want to get into that. :P

My first game was called Tanka Zwiete Existenz. It was a rather strange strategy game, simular to Dungeon keeper, with a over ambitous demon lord summoning demons to slay the champions of the land. It featured a basic sleeping/feeding/training cycle where you would stregnthn the demons day by day to make them withstand hero assualts.
Note this: It was deeply flawed as I did not understand how random variables worked and sometimes you would have demons that would just sleep, and sometimes a lvl 50 hero would kill every one as they slept.

I don't even remember my first game any more. It's been nearly 10 years since I was introduced to the program.
I never ended up finishing any game so far, since most had 'epic' stories and long, long stories.
I remember one where you and your friend were in the army, but wanted to desert. So you did, right after a big victory, and ran away. I think the end of that was when your friend was killed by a griffin and after you killed the griffin, I wanted a pack of wolves to tear his body apart.
Another one stopped when I was trying to build a 80x80 dungeon. That one also had about a gig of sound files, because I would search for people speaking, and I'd have words play, but poorly timed and stuff.
I actually quit for a few years, and only came back because I was playing Crystalis and was thinking that I could create a similar system.

My first RPG was on RPG maker for PS1 it was a fan-game sequel to Baulders Gate called Kharnes revenge it was baaad.
that is all i can say.
I had a few other early projects that were equally deplorable, but i don't remember them well >_<
the one i do remember that was actually pretty good as far as game play and cohesiveness goes. It was this stoner comedy game that opens with the main characters lighting a bag of dog shit on a crack heads doorstep and you saved by going to bars and getting black-out drunk. Smoking weed was a curative item and a whole bunch of other goofy, goofy stuff.

In technicality I'm still working on my first game, since NL was the first concept for a game that I ever came up with, when I was a mere child.
However, the first game I actually made with an RPG Maker was on RPG Maker 3. It was called Earthquest, and I actually finished it (Le Gasp!). Trouble is I saved over it the same hour because I was a retard.
Soon after I moved to RM2k3, and started on a game called The Book Of Boltzman. This was the first time that I fully planned out a game's story and gameplay and such before making it. I got reasonably far, about a quarter of the way before I abandoned it. Truth be told, I do have a few maps and stuff made for it right now since I was planning a more high quality remake, but never did much with that idea.
After those two, I went into the first official version of Neo Lescia, and you can see how thats been going.

My first game? Here are a few facts about good ol' Lost Chapters from the year 2000.
1. No intro sequence.
2. No storyline at all other than you were a demon from Hell and had to kill a bad guy.
3. Characters joined the party for no reason. A dancer with ADHD, a dragon, and a sex changing sorcerer were just a few of the characters that joined the party. Also a talking cow.
4. The main character was named Exdeath.
5. It was all RTP. Nothing was mapped well at all and the amount of empty space on each map was staggering.
6. The main character's best friend tries to kill him for a reason that is never explained. It happens ten minutes in and is the hardest fight in the entire game.
7. I made it in two weeks.
Yeah.... So it was pretty bad.
