WHAT WE DID HORRIBLY ON OUR FIRST GAMES.

Posts

Did you ever go back to actually replay the first game you created? Did you praise yourself over its sheer perfection or did you ask yourself "Just what was I thinking?!"

As I had told people I was going to post my first game on this site this week, I decided to give the old demo of my first game another go round. Up to that point, I would remember generating positive reviews and feedback about the project as a whole.
Now I know we can look at things we had done and think we did a few things pretty bad, but there is also doing some things so bad that they are laughable. I would find it amusing to particularly hear stories about the latter.

The Main Hero Face set from Forever Across Dreams:
What do we have here? A face made in poser and pixel edited in paint? And what's with the huge massive neanderthal jaw, hehe.

Mine was in RPG Maker 2000, like 7 years ago. The game doesn't exist anymore. I remember it being pretty short, but that's not the horrible part. (As a bit of a fun note, the battle music in Paradise Blue was in this game).

I had a magic mirror in that game that showed you who the traitor was, but it lied. It was a weird scene.

I left all the skills and stuff as default, so the Elf girl would have all these 0 MP skills.

I don't remember anything else about it, it was too long ago. In my 3rd game (I somehow cannot recall anything about my 2nd), I tried doing an FF3 multi party battle thing. It failed badly.
That's not too bad, it's far more ambitious than my first projects. I sincerely wish I still had my first game. I must have been about twelve or thirteen when I started using RPG Maker, and I had a fever the first time I ever used it. As far as I remember it consisted of one map that you could walk around and talk to differant RTP people on. I remember very little about it, but what I do is downright bizzare. There was something about a man-eating chicken or a sheep or something. Playing it now would probably be like living out a thirteen year old's fever dream. I bet it would be like the movie from The Ring, after you play it you die in seven days.

I don't know, sounds like if you ever made a playable game out of it, it would be freakishly cool.

Just go drink a bottle of cough syrup and imagine it, that's the closest anyone will ever get to a playable version of that game. You probably wouldn't be too far off either, ha ha.
I haven't even released my first game, so yeah. It's a piece of crap anyways, so no need to discuss very much about it.
I don't even remember my first RPG Maker game, it was way back in the day of RPG Maker 2 with Kanjihack and the most I ever did with it was make these 10-minute things, possibly with cutscenes, but probably not.

The first game I remember was "Lost Fantasy" for RPG Maker 95 that I released a demo of back in the RMGurus days, which should give a hint of how terrible it was. The general plot was that you were... Scott(?) who had just graduated from 'Fighter School' or something like that, and his dragon buddy 'Draco' (feel the originality!) left for absolutely no given reason. The first boss was a fellow graduate from Fighter School who joined up after being defeated. and the next town was taken over by 'Goblins' and, again for no reason, you had to sneak into the palace via a 'hidden' passage in a mountain cave which involved teleporter puzzles.
It was the "epick" journey across five moons or something planned, but the whole thing was from the top of my head. I'd love to have a copy of it now, even just for the facepalm value though.

The horrible part is that for RPG Maker 2000, I basically recreated the damn thing with "Fighter Scool" and the dragon buddy "Draco". It was executed better so it didn't make Baby Jesus cry though, it just made him whimper instead.
Uh, I'll get back to you all in a couple years. I've never made it past the first cut scene. ;D
My first RM game was on the PSX RPG maker. I had the first town made, three islands on the world map completed and half a forest dungeon before I ran out of memory card space and gave it up.

I later started to remake it in 2K but didn't get to demo stage. It had something to do with an amnesiac who was trying to find her father and a few other characters.

My first 'real' RM game was ten kinds of crap and had you starting in a village where you were supposed to just know where to go. It did have a pretty awesome inn system, though.
I probably still have it somewhere...

It was called Hero's Realm (Yeah, I stole the name from my first project for my current project. I liked it). It was an RPG maker 2000 game.

For some reason, you chose one of the 8 premade heroes to be the Leader (no boring preamble!) then, after the Baron told you that the mines were infested, you went to the Guild to pick out 3 other team members.

If you've played the current Hero's Realm, Chapter 2 (the one in Hasara with Zefiryn or whatever her fucking name is) is basically copied from what I got done in the game. And the capital of Jomongu (chapter 3) is copied from my first game. I think I have the project saved somewhere...

Tried and succeeded in making it too long. Good content was spread out and back-loaded away from the beginning.
My first one was about Alex fighting the Homeless King. He was residing in this tower on the north end of the world. And to beat him, you had to tell him that he's not really homeless since that tower was his home.

And you could get a secret character who was a ninja named Ajnin. Oh yeah!

My first game was about a schoolboy named Plank who died and went to another world. There weren't any battles, just random talking to people.

I had never played an RPG before, only adventure games and Lemmings, so I had no idea what I was doing with RPGMaker. =P

And that's changed how? ;)
Back in my first project on a friend's computer (I didn't even have the program myself), we didn't know how to work switches (well more accurately we didn't even know that they existed), and instead of using switches we were constantly adding useless items to the hero's inventory to switch event pages.

But Despain! You can make a switch by setting a skill to "Switch," duh!

kentona: lolololololstfu.
craze: I wtfpwnd u.
Mine was in rpg maker 2000 and took me about 2 weeks to create. I remember having stuff like invisible traps on the floor and using the shitest sets i could find. I also remember never using switches so if you opened up a chest you could just continue to get that item.

The game was called "A hero in the past"
