REWARDS FOR GOOD BLOG POST.
Posts
I think that you guys are missing the issue here, even though a few of you touched upon it. The issue seems to be blog post visibility.
Yes, somehow making every blog post a good blog post will ensure that only good blog posts are highly visible (front page, top of the blog list). But, like the title of this thread says, wouldn't it make sense to reward (promote) good blog posts?
Just change the front page to show only good blogs (however that is deemed and by whomever), and change the blog list to sort by last post instead of blog date. That way only good blogs are shown on the front page, and "good" (as in blogs that instigate discussion) will bubble up to the top of the blog list.
And I'm sure that there are some other great ideas for improving the visibility of good blogs.

On the other hand, ideas are cheap - who is going to go into the code and implement it?
As a temporary solution, try this: ignore the bad blog posts.
author=Yoshioyes that is exactly it. i am going to be deleting everything and anything that i see. starting with the blogs, then the articles, and finally the games. there will be no games here for this is no longer rpgmaker network, this is the no-fun network and you are in severe violation of this new mandate

i wish i could know you're joking, but with users like infectionfiles and link221212 around it's now feasible that someone could post things as audacious as this in earnest

or perhaps the blogging privileges of those who do not make funtime blog updates can be removed...yes...prepare to meet your maker breath of fire 2 remake
I posted one short blog on a game page that is otherwise incredibly informative, not only in general but on a personal level with any community member that comments on it. I make sure I answer any questions that anyone has and I present any suggestions made to the project team so you can stop your crying now. Thanks for all the attention, though. We do appreciate the traffic increase.
P.S. Rewards for "good" blog posts? Are there people here that are THAT insecure that they need yet another digital pat on the back from complete strangers? Not a good idea. Perhaps the suggestion that was made previously of a thumbs up/down system would be beneficial in measuring the content that this community desires.
But then again, when someone gets a few thumbs downs clicked on them, I can see the massive temper tantrums that will cause.
Here's another suggestion, and this is a long shot, but maybe if the blog creators had the option to make their individual postings "read only," (no replies) that would probably help quell a lot of negativity surrounding them. Additionally, blog posts that are set to read-only by the creator shouldn't show up on the main page section for latest blog posts. This way if someone feels the need to post a blog about their game that isn't long enough, informative enough, or if they're posting something that doesn't involve their game (it is a blog after all, this is bound to happen a lot), they can do so without bumping other game's blog posts or raising the ire of the community.
The issue here is that users will most likely not always remember to select to have their new blog post as read-only, or they will fail to check this setting on purpose. In that case, manual moderation may be the only way... as Magi has already started doing.
Honestly, I don't see a problem with a short blog post once in a while. If a person is otherwise too busy to write a lot, but still wants to drop a line to his or her subscribers to say, "Hey, I'm working on something right now but I'll update in a few days" I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Doing it all the time, of course, that is a problem. I have yet to subscribe to a game page that has this problem, though.

well, we felt like you needed the help.
I never turn down assistance!
Another idea: can a character prerequisite be put in place? You know how sometimes you go to create a password and it needs to be x amount of characters long? I mean I don't agree with forcing someone to write more if they don't want to or don't have anything more to say, but perhaps making a requirement of enough characters to fill at least a paragraph would solve this whole problem.

it was a joke. i hope that doesn't make you feel bad for posting " i feed off this" but there it is. rewards
You could add up the makerscore of all the responses to a blog post for the list of users who have responded to the blog post and use it as a relevance index. The problem with a ranked blog system of any metric is that it would be hard to also ensure new blog posts appear and that they are still listed in a chronological order.
The point of having latest blogs is that it shows a ticker of current activity of RMN. If the current activity of RMN is chatter more idle than a Starfox radio channel, then it's going to be kind of difficult.

do a barrel roll!
(yeah, it's not a perfect solution, but I don't think there is a perfect solution)

Do not make a post about a forthcoming post, it's stupid
If you feel a blog is pushing things off the front page, click Latest Blogs, and holycrap you can see a whole page-long list of blog entries
Two issues, solved

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

author=Abdel McCrackI don't think there's any sort of problem with this kind of blog post. The biggest problem our blogs have is that every time someone makes a post that's less than a page, everyone bashes it for being "pointless". What does that even mean? It's not like it's penis enlargement spam.
I'm guessing you don't quite get it, most blogs are things like that: http://rpgmaker.net/games/2842/blog/4294/
The blog's page existence does not change that, as it means most blog posts are that sort of content, which is to say; barely any content. Who will want to check them out if most of them are just that?
Blog posts don't need to be epic. You're not going to have some vital and huge change every day. But it's still good to post every day. It's just like blogging on Facebook or Twitter or Livejournal or anywhere else. The blog is just a way for you to talk about what you did each day. If you're not going to use the blog, then don't make one. The only blogs I dislike are the ones that don't update.
The only problem we have is that we have a list of all the latest blog posts from *everyone*. Such a list is pointless and awful. Imagine if Livejournal or Facebook did that. No one would read that either - it would be equally pointless and awful.
Therefore, I think the list of latest blog posts should be removed from the site. Each person's blog is for their own game, not for the entire community. And only people who check a blog for updates should see those updates. A better system might be if the front page only showed posts from blogs that the user is currently following. Something like Facebook's "recent activity" page that shows all the latest posts your friends have made.

No it's pretty common, I've seen it several times the last couple weeks *before* this thread was created.
What's strange about the comparison to twitter? It is one of the most popular blogging sites.
