That's really an individual taste issue than a fair/not fair issue.

No.

I'm saying, if you prefer some one ONLY because he is rich, its money you prefer, not the person who's rich, it takes a person to love, not just a belonging or some very limited quality, and if you're like that i would say society seriously f***** your brain.

I think Mog was referring to it as among a continuum of things that can be seen as attractive, rather than as the sole basis for attraction.

People here get way too hung up on semantics.

So that explains why the hero only gets the girl once he has acquired ridiculous levels of power and gained 999,999 GIL,

The discussion started there, so yes, it seems that was the viewpoint.
I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I'M READING HERE
im shocked at both the men and women on this thread
yes BOTH OF YOU
first of all since when is the only "sexuall" man an anime effiminate pretty boy? since when? not every girl likes that. if fact some of us do like the hulky macho type in fact allot of us do. so quite trying to act like macho isnt sexualized.

second i know this as a fact because i can see it, men don't like just one type of woman , there is no one and only sexy body type and its childish to think so (even the creator of the game pretty much said that about large breasted women.
allot of men like a wide range of women

skinny tall short curvey busty flat chested , cute aggressive shy nerdy and outrageuse. so long as the girl takes care of her self (and even if she lets her self go a little,) there will be a man that finds her sexxy.

if you look hard enough you will find that theres a wider variety of female types in games then you think.
As for you two, you honestly surprised the hell out of me with comments like those.
@Thiamor, Regardless of whether not it's real most games and movies that portray abuse of some form are more often than not based on events that happen everyday. That's right, somewhere in this paradise we call earth a women is getting beaten or locked in a cellar somewhere with nothing but her abuser there. More often than not, gamers are reminded at some point of time in the conscience that these games aren't always make believe.

@Kindredz, You're joking right, if you really think that there is some almighty power that has our entire future written out or that there is no power to the many individuals that don't work in the government then you need to get your head examined. Slavery, Women's Rights Movement, and Gay Marriage. I'm pretty sure each of those went against "Fate" and Government plenty of times.

oh wow , so it is true, someone once told me that there are women who get all paranoid and start thinking every man is a rapist just because they saw it on some crappy made for tv movie.
after hearing that i would think to myself "no way, i'm a woman and im not like that at all" but it looks like its true there is at least one will bring it up. i don't know maybie its because im a little different i don't care for the frilly dresses and i dont find that i need to be afraide or prove myself to anyone because i know what i can and cant do (yes there are things i cant do, get over it , im human)

of course i know bad things do happen , this is a huge world , so there are bound to be crimes like that. but blaming the media for it is just shallow pathetic. on the other hand if your gonna point fingers (and you already did) those "real life" "bassed on a true story" movies are far worse then total fiction. one because they are making money off of someones pain and 2 they are causing people like you to become even more paranoid. oh no that guy is gonna get me , men are evil and women are being locked away. geeze people like you make me ashamed to be a woman. (well i would be , if i acted anything like you , wich i dont )

Not to interrupt your nerd rage (keep posting, successively!) but Solitayre does in fact have an entire article on 'macho macho men' being sexualized.

(I think Soli just likes dudes with muscles.)
I'm really hoping that this whole "marketing via sexyness"-thing will become boring for the majority someday. I already think it is, but its not a video games only thing.

Do computer-rendered women in commercials make me wanna play a certain game? Certainly not, because its like "eat our food, its tasty" which says absolutely nothing since every foodproducer says his food is tasty. Undernourished actresses/singers with botox-faces are boring as well.

Boring, Boring, Boring as hell. Seen that a hundred thousand times, thy~ next!

The sad truth is sex sells, and sex will ALWAYS sell.

I mean, we are all animals here, and we do a lot on instinct (even as our consciousness gives us the false sense of having complete control of our lives).

We are weird creatures.

I'm afraid its a bit late for Rupert Murdoch's wife...!
@Fallen-Griever: I do and I don't, sometimes I prefer not to look to much into it ;) In any case I don't want to take the state of things as definite, worse as a matter of fact!

Not sure if I made this point, but I was taught about the four areas of writing in the media...
Sex, Violence, Wickedness and Suffering.
When you target your audience at women, you tend towards Wickedness and Suffering (yep it's sexist, live with it) see: Young and the Restless. or a man in a burn ward suffering through all this pain, and in the end we learn he deserves his pain.

For men, you write Sex and Violence. Sex can range from Porn to Seduction to Sexy... Basically, when you have glory shots of a hot woman or hot car, you're giving the man "Sex" so to speak. It doesn't have to pertain to the actual act. As long as the woman or scene is sexy.
And then Violence. This ranges from car chases to fist fights.
So you put sex and violence in a game, what do you get? Tomb Raider, Bayonetta... these types of stereotypes that harm the womanly image. It's media-driven character creation.

A game like L.A. Noire is great for boyfriend and girlfriends to play together, because there's all four! Sexy women being killed (sex and violence in one), Car chases and shooting (violence). People lamenting over dead loved ones (Suffering) and people plotting on killing or other malicious shit (Wickedness).

Sounds dumb at first, but when you start looking at movies, games or books you will see Sex, Violence, Suffering and Wickedness everywhere--and it very much dictates the target audience!
