Greetings friends, RMN users, robots and RTP users.

tl;dr version
started a kickstarter
rn:libra will still be free to the rm community
you still need to donate, because i know ur all wips

Kickstarter- -Dev Blog--Paypal
Rainbow Nightmare has made the stressful and skeptical jump to Kickstarter. I would like to take a moment to talk about this, the situation, and overall exhausting experience so far.

First I want to say RN: Libra will not be the next revolutionary game ever to exist on the indie scene. It's purpose is to entertain people for a while. That's it.

I don't want people to think that I am above anyone else or I'm better than anyone not doing this. I'm not. The game isn't any better than anyone elses game. I do think it's a unique experience and I want to be able to share that with other people beyond the scope of the small pond.

I would really like to see a game stand on it's two feet and do well, that came from the RM community. No pre-designed material used, just a totally unique experience. Game that has a lot of work and detail. I want a good reflection off the rm community. I want people beyond the rm scene to know we're capable of creating enjoyable content. On a serious level.

I hope as a community you can come together and support this project, because I think a victory for RN: Libra is a victory for the rm community. To have a decent game be out there that is not the "aveyond" effect. I think it's time.

If you're still skeptical, I am TFT/Audiomew and I've been in the rm scene since 2004. I've released a few conceptual demo ideas, won a few misaos. I even won worst mod award on GW. Something not easy to accomplish. I don't work with large teams. I use an artistic perspective on things first, and game design secondly. Both are equally important.

Now, I'm going to explain this as best I can. I have to prototype everything in rm2k3, it's what I feel comfortable with. With that being said, RN: Libra will be released on Rm2k3 for free. It's going to be made either way, the only
problem is, it's going to be like, half a game, it can't be polished as I want it to be. But it will be available for people to enjoy regardless. And if they like they might get the improved version.

I really-really wanted to produce a demo first, but certain events take place and you have to make rough choices and I'm going to have to wait on the demo to get much needed feedback. What's great is, if the kickstarted succeeds, I'll
be able to actually release a very good polished demo for people to check out.

It's important that I get feedback from the RM community through the demo to see what needs to be fixed, improved, or polished on.

I have a friend who has a functional engine currently, and the game will be essencially transferred into it. What that means, is I'll be able to have a killer battle system, 8 directional movement, platforming, really good
controls, snake arms basically. Barkley originted from rm2k3 and was later transferred to gm. So I plan on doing something similar. Even ACE is a viable option.

So the basic goal is 9k. Which is the lowest I could factor in everything, what I'm hoping is when go out and advertising. I'll be able to at least push it to the 15k stretch goal(doubt it). I work by myself. I produce my own work, I get stuff done because I have control. The funds used wont be going to hiring 100 people for absolutely nothing I don't need a billion humans.

If I can my full stretch goal, which is iffy. I'll be able to work on the game full time. I will be getting outsource help, but they won't have a real say in the production. It comes down to time a lot, I want to add a ton of details, within my own abilities. You need to have a nice medium visually in order to produce a lot of content.

-compensate the composer to finish the soundtrack and add more rockin' jams
-provide the coder with additional funding to implement and port the game. aka putting it on mac, linux, etc.
-hire another artist to relieve some of the visual animations so a lot of scenes will look a lot more fluid
-produce a proper website for all RN updates and content.

Now as far as swag and perks are concerned. If you're an rmn browser or an rm user, idk, and if you see this and you donate and you be a cool dude about it, and you would like something specific, just email me man and we can talk. If you want to see your character in the game from yours, a crossover, your game on a billboard, all that good stuff. it just takes an email. If an rmn user donates I would like to compensate you as much as I can. What's cool is I can talk to people more personally here, vs Kickstarter.

If I don't get back to you asap, it is probably because I'm going to be hoofing it around the internet for 30 days
trying to push this thing. Which I hate, but marketing is marketing, unfortunately.

Lastly
I mean, I want to bring something to the table that people can play and have it stand on it's own two feet. I think if this succeeds, it will open doors for other people to follow suit. you know? It will set a standard. So if you have a buck, every dollar helps, man. Like, post on your facebook, your blog, re-blogs are awesome, you know it's getting people to see the project is the hardest part, and it's the most important. So I need to rely and hope people can get the word out.

It would be really cool if you could do that. And it would be really great at the end of it all, a really fun game came out of it, and people can say "yeah that came from rmn, they must know something". I mean do you really want games like aveyond to represent your community?

I'm not a company, I'm just one person who thinks what he's made can be enjoyable to other people beyond rm communities can enjoy. it's everything, it's my art, it's my ideas, and to share that with more people.

want to give a shout out to ian kragh for dropping RN on his show "lobster list"
check it out

as far as progress is concerned it's still up in the air. def not a grand slam by any means. but if we have less than 600 people getting on the pre-order at 15 bucks the goal can be met.

everyone knows at least one wip...
i am dying to know: how did you come up with the number $9,000 dollars? it seems slightly high to me (but not totally insanely over the top bloated, either, still within reasonable norms).

just because i've considered monetizing for years, and was never sure how to build a budget for something like an RM game.
Because Lady Libra said so! Don't you know?

This is a really good question. I had compiled a lot of data and estimation before hand. Generally game budgets for indie devs circulate around 30 to 40k from what i've researched. The fact of the matter is, 20k is def not what I'm looking for and beyond that. I don't need that much and it would just be extra "derp" funds.

I mean, look at these projects and how they overshoot.

This is the general standard for RM on KS. In the realm of RM, it's asking for about the same as other RM KS. The funny thing is, RN: Libra is actually constructed, and it's not just some "idea". And yet these games with absolutely no effort to be unique or different and even take the time to customize their own material just get thrown money at them.

I have a friend working on a game and he has an artist working for him on a 5k budget. So, it is good to know I can cover the visuals myself.

Naturally when you see games on KS that happen to be RPG's and RM all revolve around RTP, it's an uphill battle. Bla blah blah to answer your question more tl;r

budget:
-full time work to part time year
-provide a more professional website for the game
-hire help to make certain characters and scenes already done more fluid
-coder to assist in transferring the game to vx and other platforms
-advertising & marketing propa, like
-composers must be paid for moar jams

The meat of it is basically for me to be able to sit down and work on it full time. My boss is a really cool babe, and would let me work part time from full time if the KS were to somehow work out. I'm not a student, I'm not in college so there is no financial carrying. If I were, I def would not need KS funds. Real life prevents this from being made within a year vs 5 years from now basically.

I'm pretty dedicated to the project, and it's special to me because it's everything I have to offer in terms of creativity. If the KS doesn't pan out I'm going to try and take out a bank loan to finish the project. Da lifesyles of da rich and charset.

Dude. If you check out uh, Cold Fusion he somehow got the dude who created Fallout to donate. I think it's incredible that he can do that while I can't even get on indiegames. It's.... idk....

With that being said some people have donated through Paypal, so if you still want to donate and don't want to go through the trouble of Amazon, which is kind of annoying. Here is my Paypal. If you want to donate and are interested in the rewards on the Kickstarter, just let me know who you are and I'll make sure to get that to you.

Edit: Ok, you explained this one. Alright, I guess that adds up. Still not sure whether I actually agree with it or not.

The fact that you're actually going to spend money on advertising something aimed at such a niche audience seems kinda pointless. The fact that you're selling this game makes programming this game seem well...not passionless, but it certainly feels like there's less passion put into it, which is a shame because the rpgmaker engine seems more aimed towards people who want to make things purely out of passion.

That said, while I'm not interested in the game personally, I wish you well, and I hope that the game comes out as great as you desire it to be..

---

Ok, here's where I'm skeptical on this.

Please keep in mind, this is a question. It is neither a statement nor an accusation.

Why do you need money to program a game out of RPGMaker? And more importantly, why will it cost you 9 grand?

He's already stated that it's to allow him to work on the game full time, and that the money will be spent on living expenses for the next year or so.

I dunno, I don't feel like this is really a niche thing. I don't know many people who don't like robots, guns, crazy action and computer overminds. It's quirky, but I feel like you (MorteTorment) have personally labelled this as "hipster bullshit" or something. Besides, TFT said himself that "it's purpose is to entertain people for a while," not THE BEST VIRTUAL CAT ROBOT SIMULATOR EVER CREATED BY A GOD AMONGST MEN.

I have no idea where you're getting the idea that this is both passionless and niche.
UNLESS YOU PROGRAM THE ENGINE YOURSELF YOU HAVE NO PASSION

Well, dude. You have every right to be skeptical. Like, my intent is not to argue with people who have a certain opinion about things. RPG gaming isn't ninche, though. Um, RPG mechanics have evolved to being introduced into literally every kind of game now.

If you mean specifically the RM community. I agree that it is small, that is kind of the whole point to try and expand the project to show people that this kind of thing and this kind of stuff actually exists. Believe it or not, there are plenty of hardcore RPG fans that are just oblivious to finding really cool projects.

I mean, it's your opinion, but really, it's not pointless. If you had something to back up what you mean by that, sure, but.

I'll level with you, dude. I don't think people are stupid. I honestly believe they can tell the difference between a Facebook game generated to steal your money and time for no reason. Vs, a game trying to provide the player with some kind of entertainment.

I honestly don't think people with half a braincell think I am doing this to be A++list celebrity and drive 5 automobiles based off a small indie crowd funding budget.

I respect your opinion, dude, and I'm kind of glad you posted it because they're honest concerns. Unfortunately, yeah I am not going to answer things I have said several times.

The KS is me wanting it to get done within the year, expand it to other platformers, have something different to showcase communities outside RM to show that we're capable of not being a one trick pony, simply because that is ALL they know so far.

But yeah dude, idk. THIS IS A PYRAMID SCHEME EXCEPT W CHARSETS
