Vindication is a traditional RPG created in RPG Maker 2003 over the course of more than five years. It uses a real-time battle system similar to Final Fantasy games from the SNES and PSX eras. The game is about 15-30 hours long and features several side-quests and multiple difficulty settings, with eight major playable characters.

Vindication is a constant barrage of off-the-wall comedy; a game where eccentric characters encounter absurd situations non-stop. The humor assaults the player at full-speed as the characters are assaulted by 80s style robots from the future, struck by meteors, and forced to take pity on villains who try their best to be evil but fail miserably.

But in its more serious moments, Vindication is primarily the story of one man, James Clyde. His quest for revenge against those who have wronged him rules his life, but begins to conflict with his desire to protect his daughter, while a force capable of destroying the world is left unchecked, even encouraged. It is an epic tragedy hidden within a whirlwind of wacky hijinks and terrible puns.

While unarguably a story-driven game, Vindication also strives to create a meaningful challenge for the player. Each character has a unique set of abilities which must be utilized to their fullest to overcome a variety of obstacles. Constant party changes and splits keep you on your toes and require you to come up with new battle strategies constantly, while still rewarding you for developing your team members and building your strength. On the harder difficulty setting, the game plays almost like a survival horror game, with very limited resources and no way to replenish them, forcing you to manage your items wisely in order to survive the dungeons and defeat the bosses, which are stronger and faster than usual.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Fixed the rest of the broken maps. For real this time. Hopefully.

Gawd, I hate RPG Maker 2003 sometimes. Like, for example, when it just randomly deletes/corrupts map data immediately after I test it.

As before, install the game to the same folder as you installed it before, and your saved games should still work fine.
ok everything works fine now thanks
You know, I feel like I have to comment here because I know this game from when it was on a little site with some MSPainted comic of the main character surviving a nuke and getting killed by a papercut, and then so many years later I see it here and it just takes me back.

And, with all its faults, it has the best tutorial ever.

I cannot believe anyone actually knows about that comic. Don't go to burgersite.tk, it's long since taken over by domain squatters.

If you really, really, really want, you can find the rest of the comic at http://burger.sandwich.net/comic/001.html on my personal website that I haven't updated in five or six years but still pay for every month for some reason.

ONE STAR?? WHAT IS WRONG WITH RMN????

but 1028 downloads, and that is THE judgement. I'm amazed too, I'm sure I played this game (the title screen is so familiar!) and really enjoyed it. Needs a second review (or none?).

I think this was one of the first RPGMaker games I've played at all, so it has something of a nostalgia factor for me...

My game helped introduce you to RPG Maker, and now you're making games yourself?

Dude. That is pretty cool.
Yeah... I already knew RPG Maker, but I think yours is the oldest game I can actually remember.

Good old days...

Oh yes I remember now, it's that RPG where they get in pyjamas before going to sleep (loved that, one even sleeps stark naked if I remember right!), I really enjoyed that game.
Well I played up to the rebel camp part so far and I must say I love your sense of humor. Code 4 in particular.

meisam your not using semicolon properly, and that's a laughing matter.

If you're using James and need to board the ship, just grab the steering wheel and you can take off.

If you don't have James on your team, you don't need the ship right now. Head to Pialid Castle.
I'm up to Sedryna's part in the time-skip. terra Deep. I got both Titan and the treasury without using any levers...were they a decoy or did something go wrong?

EDIT: Lord Justin's library, entering and exiting you end up in the wrong square. but it's not really an issue/

The levers are working as intended! Thanks for reporting the other bug.
I'm currently playing Vindication, having a lot of fun in doing so. While I like the humour for the most part, I have a love-hate relationship with the challenging battles.

There's a weird bug I encountered recently that I didn't see covered here. After the boss fight against
Apex
, back at the home base, I couldn't form a party because there wasn't any party member selectable. Pressing "Esc" got me stuck on the map with no way to continue - or so I thought. Fortunately, I found out by chance that I controlled an invisible sprite with whom I could talk to a party member, initiating another party member selection screen that worked. For anyone reading my post and playing Vindication: Consider this a warning until LockeZ has fixed this bug. You don't want to repeat the aforementioned difficult boss battle (including very long story scenes) just to mistakenly think again that you're screwed.

Sorry! A strange bug that seemed to randomly happen or not depending on the moon phase. It's now fixed. I've updated the download with a new version that should work consistently.
While trying out some very old RPG Maker games, I found one that reminded me of something. There's a protagonist called James, he says something about the Martec Empire during the opening sequence, and another party member is called Danica. I was right: This game reminded me of Vindication. The game's name: Double Trouble 2: The Third. It's probably an old version of Vindication, but an interesting finding nevertheless.

Yep! I changed the name during development as it gradually stopped being a sequel to my very old RPG Maker 95 game Double Trouble. Originally the games had more closely connected stories, but then I realized Double Trouble was terrible and no one should have to play it. ...Er, I mean, I decided to go in a different direction.
Going in a different direction was definitely a good idea. In case you ever need to find "Double Trouble 2: The Third" on the internet, now you know it's still somewhere out there. :)
