I was thinking of it more as the more 'soiled' parts of the ground, where many people have walked and gotten it more dirtier than the rest of the area. That was my intent anyway.

This is a nice looking map, but you really shouldn't use that "darker floor" tile for both shadows and... that weird path that leads everywhere. Stick to using it for the shadow, you probably don't need that tile along the ground. After all, it's a bit city; someone is probably maintaining it!
