If you like Metal Gear and/or The Legend of Zelda, then I hope this mixture will be a pleasant surprise.
This game which could be seen as a Metal Gear-game, uses graphical and game-mechanical similarities with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

What is Metal Gear Solid you say? It's a popular series of games that focus on stealth-based game play.
Rather than jump into action you try to slip past the action undetected.
What is The Legend of Zelda you say? Well, if you don't know then I'm surprised. It's... about this boy clad in green going away to fight beats. ;p

You don't have to be familiar with the Metal Gear-series to be able to jump into the action, but it'll be funnier considering how packed with references to both game-series this sucker is.
Also, this is a comical game. Don't take everything too seriously, cause it's probably not.

Introduction:
You are Solid Snake - master of stealth and overcoming situations concerning huge, warhead-equipped robots.
Now part of the anti-Metal Gear group Philanthropy, you are dispatched to deal with a rumored Metal Gear under development in the region of Mandora.
Will you - Snake - be able to stop this possible threat?
Or will the bad guys have it their way?
Or more importantly, will you be home back for dinner?

Controls:
Z: Interact/Confirm
X: Weapon
Arrow keys: Move
Shift: Toggle Strafing
1: Open item menu/Select item
2: Open Weapon menu/Select item
9: Restore speed/phasing
F4: Toggle Fullscreen
F5: Toggle 2x size
F12: Reset to Title

Also, I'd appreciate if you'd share your end results.

But wait, there's more!

So we've come to this. After just a bit over 4 months since last, I give you a new update - Version 1.9.5 is here!

That's right, I decided to tweak the game even further.
So now after 2 years since the initial release, the updates are still rolling out. But I believe this will most likely be the last one.
I've gotten tired of this game and would really like to put it all behind me.
It's all just so appropriate that it has reached the 2 year-mark now.

This update could be said to contain lots of tweaking, if you would judge by the amount of work put into it. The way I've been working with changes now have been a real pain, due to among else constant copy-paste of new script and tweaks into events on almost every map over and over and over again that spans over 400 maps. I AM SICK OF IT! But it had to be doneā€¦ I really hope it pays off though.

Here are some new features that it made possible:

- Difficulty settings
I don't know how many of you would really appreciate this, but since I've received mixed responses about the difficulty, it just seems right to accommodate. This feature involved perhaps 90% of all the work.
Now you can choose between:
- Easy (if you want it a bit easier)
- Normal (how it always was)
- Hard (if normal wasn't enough)
- Extreme (if you want a challenge)
- Insane (if you feel masochistic)

About previous saves, I hope that my adjustments have made them compatible without problems. You will continue from Normal-difficulty.
A started game will stick to the selected difficulty.
- Debugging
There's always room for improvement it seems. There's always something to fix.
(Don't know if it means it was a crappy game or that nothing can be perfect...)
Some details below (SPOILERS):

- Restarting Stalker boss battle fixed.
- Some grammar tweaking.
- Liquid's arm won't possibly run away off-screen to ruin battle.
- Liquid's "crush hand" remains on position.
- Enemy soldier in village re-spawns correctly.
- Remove item number if diving with Heal-item equipped.
- Box not able to move on Factory ledges.
- Factory cranes destroyable by all concussive weaponry.
- Remove stun-effect on re-spawning soldiers.
- Dual Tank Boss switches turn attacking.
- Explosion sound-effect noise-scramble is fixed.
- Best ranks need only less than 30 kills instead of 20
- Possible to throw C4 at RAH with attack-button.

Hopefully I can move on now. But I guess I'll never know.
I sure hope there are no game-breakers still in it, because that will very likely lead me to go back again.

To you people still interested in the game - Enjoy!

Been awhile since I updated my version will download the newest version and give you my feedback, great game!
The only extra lvl I found alone without walktrough was additional health bars (trough the swamp, etc).

That other game (its more like system) I can translate for you if you want. Just say ;)

Well I don't like loud music so I never heard that click ;P

2) It says I've got to press long enough attack button (x). So I'm doing. No effect.

Thanks for help ;) I wish you will make 2nd one with improved engine (wall sticking, more ways to get rid off alarm, radar).

http://tsukuru.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1602&start=0 (i wish it is not a crime to post a link).

One more thing: the first boss battle (ninja squad) was pissing me off. 22th time I made it with no health loss O.o

As soon as I complete your game I'm gonna make a review ;) The note will be high enough, cuz I'm Metal Gear series fan :)
- You've got to hold the X-button until you hear a "click" to charge Stealth Kills. Also, no effect in Alert mode. It's a "Stealth" kill after all.

- I don't think I'm going to do such an extensive change to the whole system, cause that is a whole lot of extra work almost from scratch.
I did fix some major flaws in the past, but as for now it seems the game would be holding up. Just fixing any potential bugs.

- That other game has impressive mechanics, but it seems even harder than mine and I don't understand a thing, which is sad.

- The first boss can either be hard or really easy depending on your approach. The easiest way is to stick to the walls and shoot down one by one.

- Good luck! The game is rather long actually and the later levels will be a challenge. Not to mention the extras that will probably pass by unnoticed...

There is one key under a drum in the elevator hallway and one is in a chest in the east section. Sure you've checked both?
- You can with the Stealth Kill which works like a charged back-stab. It's explained shortly after getting the knife.

1) Oh I wasn't looking under the drum, thanks :)

I will post you a Polish project (with all these I posted). Unfortunentally it is not completed, but you may find there something interesting (2k3version). As soon as I complete your game I'm gonna make a review ;) The note will be high enough, cuz I'm Metal Gear series fan :)

I'm guessing hiding in a truck still gets me found? Good game though, very similiar to my mg engine although I used sprites from mg2. :/
Sort of. If you go by the book, the game mechanics would be really hard to replicate.
The best thing I did was build different, but similar mechanics(explained on the GamePlay page).
To each their own style. I wanted to give this one a Zelda-feel as well. ('v')

Once i found keycard lvl 2 and cardboard box i can't get the another key needed to proceed (i think it will be another boss fight).

Also, there are few bugs. How the hell I can kill someone with just one strike? There is no way ;/

Altrought i think the supreme for socom should be foundable somewhere.

Also this game is awesome hard without walktrough (method of trials and errors).

One more think: I can't open it in RPG maker 2k3 (eng ver.) to add this damn key (I'm fu... exhausted of making it all again).

What is the point of shooting range? I made it to a chaos mode. Oh and one more think: does bandana do something? I bought it and it told me it's fake...

- You mean the handgun suppressor? It is found in the village if you look around.
- I've adjusted a lot of things based on people's opinion since it's hard to judge by myself who find it mildly challenging. I'd be glad to hear yours as well.
- I'm not sure what the problem would be. No help there, sorry.
- The shooting range is a mini-game for fun. There're also rewards if you reach a certain score.
- That bandanna can be given to a specific person. It's hinted that it is a kid.

I like this

I'm glad you like it.
Alright, I didn't play much, but what I've seen in the game play is great and creative. I like it, I did found a small thing when you jump off a ledge. I got stuck in a wall lol. I found a data disc and it wasn't in the inventory, maybe I was to find the backpack first? Yeah, like I said I didn't play much, but I'll play more later. :) Have a lot of stuff going on; work, taking care of my child, also have a project going on with RMVX and maybe a mini project with RMXP also and of coarse playing video games lol. Good luck with future projects, you're a good developer. :) Hoping to see more of MG games and maybe on a newer engine with better graphics. :)

Peace

I said that I would try this on RRR lol and here I am downloading now! I've tried to make a similar game, but I used the sprites from the MG game on The GameBoy Color...I failed tho....But I will play this and let you know how my play through went, either on this site or on RRR :D

Nice! I'll await your thoughts on the game. Oh, and feel free to ask questions or point things out.
I still believe there are a few things that could be improved.

Love the new update, tho the lake (Not the area, but the lake itself) is a little laggy for me...

Hey, downloaded this and it's pretty cool, I just cannot figure out where I'm supposed to go. I got my backpack, found a room with a locked locker, found a gate where I need a keycard, and found a minefield I can't get through. Is there a walkthrough or something I can peek at?
There is no walkthrough out at the moment considering the game was released quite recently.
I suppose I could compose one if the demand is great enough.

EDIT: Partial walkthrough is up.

Keep using the door, there is no keycard. It is the guard talking.

I don't like that you can't hide behind stuff! But that's a hard thing to fix..

I downloaded your first release and I loved it :) but the beginning dialogue was pretty bad, no offense. I took it into RPG Maker and edited the dialogue a bit to make it seem more like a Metal Gear game. Hope you don't mind. Also, love the game :) been trying to make a game based on Pliskin but that didn't turn out so well...
The game is supposed to be comical and that is just one of those things.
But if you don't like it, I guess there's no stopping you. Just hope it won't ruin the experience.
