Basic Info:
This is a bit harder than your typical RPG you play now a-days. It's very basic, but contains fun gameplay elements. In short, this game is not for everyone, it's difficult and you're not gonna coast through it. Bosses are hard, enemies are hard. Especially at the early levels when death is only cure-able at churches in town.

Story:

700 years ago, the world of man was a place of peace. People lived their lives without fear, and mankind flourished. It didn't last. A great evil emerged, and laid waste to civilization. When all hope seemed lost, a hero stepped forth, and turned the tides of war. He pushed the evil ones back, and saved our world. Peace returned, and lasted for many centuries. But history has a way of repeating, and darkness always returns. A putrid force is working to bring true evil back to our world. The hero who saved us is long dead, though he has but one descendant. That descendant, however, is no hero. With no intention of defeating the coming evil, but rather bringing it forth. It seems a new hero is needed, one who can stop this new force, and save our world from annihilation.

Fable of Heroes II update, 4-21-13

It's hard finding time to work on this game. But things are going along well.

I have an outline for the plot of the game, and have put in about 50% of the plots content, which has given the game about 6-ish hours of playtime. Not bad, since I'm shooting for around 10+. I've been working out the balance issue, and trying to make sure all the items, weapons and skills are useful and fun.

I'm considering getting a writer to go through my script and beef it up. I've seen what writers can do, and I think that would add so much depth to this project.

I know this isn't the most popular RPG maker series, but since the first game was featured on this site, I feel a need to make sure the sequel is much better and address the issues of the first game.

I don't know what Hero's Realm is. This is mostly a Dragon Quest homage.

I'm not sure if I have the patience for this anymore. It's like writing a paper using an ink and quill when there are pens at hand.

Are you talking about the walking speed?
Hero's Realm http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/ is one of the best games made on rm2k/3 and is basically a dragon quest homage.
Walking speed, yes. The experience and money grind I can handle.

I'm sorry about that, that's one thing I feel strongly about not to change. What I've tried to do to help compensate for that is make the game maps small, so you don't have to walk around too much. As well as being very light with the encounter rate.

Still thanks for playing, I made this for the Dragon Quest fans

Omg, Hero's Realm looks really good. I'll have to try it. I don't like the combat system in RM2K3 though, (which is why my game is not using it). But still, it looks really large. That wolrd map is so big. This looks like a way bigger game than Fable of Heroes. I would have loved to make my game that long but the staff was just me and a friend, and we thought a shorter awesome game was better than a a long epic that was only okay.

Still, I will have to check Hero's Realm out, once again, looks really good. Looks like it lasts 20+ hours!!

Yeah, the rm2k3 atb is shit and I cant stand it but I did played hero's realm to completion and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff of Hero's realm was just kentona :).

But enough about HR, I'll put up with yer slow walking speed again pretty soon.
I've played a bit of this so far, I've never actually played Dragon Quest or any of its ilk, but games like this I like. The money and experience grind are alright (after all, it was the norm for games back in the day!), I can even do the walk speed because the maps are sized appropriately for it.

The graphics are definitely not all RTP - I'm seeing some edits and even what appear to be custom chips thus far. I'm only level 3 and yet to go into the forest (I ground out the best equipment), but liking this a good deal so far. This has the feeling of Jay's Journey, without the abundant jokes. Music is well-suited to the maps so far, and the graphics are very well used.

I think you're on to something. I didn't advertise that in the features, I thought it be better for ppl to discover it on their own. :)
No worries, I think I can understand what you mean by missing older games, but I just can't agree with you on some parts. Good luck in your future game development endeavors.
help, i can't find eric's sword, where am i forgetting to look
You probably also found the ultimate key... Try opening doors you couldn't before.
Well designed maps.
This was a fantastic game -_-
...What the fuck is THIS:

"All of the rights associated with Fable of Heroes (Legendary Edition) and Fable of Heroes (Classic Edition) and their respective components (in particular the titles, computer codes, computer scripts, themes, characters, character names, plots, stories, dialogues, places, concepts, custom music and text contained in the Multimedia Product), as well as the rights relating to the trademark, royalties and copyrights, are the property of Dustin Musser and Josias Gibbs and are protected by US regulations or other Laws, Treaties and international agreements concerning intellectual property."

This is a cliched piece of crap with a generic title, made on a pirated game engine, with fuckin' ALEX as the goddamn main character, and you actually have the nerve to make a "licence agreement"?! A "licence agreement" for a bunch of stolen materials and ideas?! It would look tad anal retentive and jerkassy if you put that up if you 100% original material (and an engine that wasn't pirated), but at least then it would be kinda justified, if apparently lacking in research as to how this stuff works.

But that ain't the case here. In fact, legally, YOU could be required by a court to take this entire game down just because you're using copyrighted stuff you don't own. God help you if you used anything owned by Disney or Square Enix.

...Sheesh...

When I first played Fable of Heros, I found this game to be quite entertaining.

Plot / Characters: 3/5
The introduction features a princess kidnapped by demons while trying to escape from castle grounds.
I sensed alot of zelda and final fantasy themes as the rtp-based game progressed in difficulty.
Alex, 16 was the main character, accompanied by some older friends who were also rtp characters. Although rooted in the classics like dragon quest or pokemon blue or silver, the game ultimately had a unique plot and storyline. This aspect made this game fun to play from start to finish.

Music: 3/5
A full spectrum of nice music ranged from fanfare village themes to tall spooky towers to multi-basement caves. The variety of resources to create such a game in some ways was just as impressive as playing hero's realm. The palace of winds music from the minish cap in particular was my favorite tune.

Mapping: 3/5
The battle encounter rate seemed relatively high without compensating for the hero's slow movement. Yet the regions in the overworld maps were designed well and proved awesome to explore. The desert to the north were simply connected with forest and marshlands to the south. The first few towns had interesting names like Mazor and Tokei. Lots of new familiar elements common in rtp design appeared like elevation, the water sprinkling around the boulders in the river, and use of panorama to create interesting visual effects in the map tiles used.

Gameplay: 3/5
Saving at churches, attaining lots of useful items in cabinets, pots, opening chests in dungeons and paying to revive unconscious allies were fun old-school elements I enjoyed as a kid. The second and third bosses were especially difficult for me. I examined the remaining maps and found them to be impressive. The player earns money exponentially to buy many equipments although the growth in the experience curve is linear.

Overall: 3/5
Overall my rating for this game is approximately 3/5.
This rtp-based game was worth playing. I would recommend that more old-school fans to consider
playing this game. This game is really a fun challange but good experience as far as it goes

You (presumably) didn't pay a dime for the RPG Maker 2000 program, used Dragon Quest music, blatantly inserted tilesets from commercial games and somehow had the gall to cite it all as your intellectual property? Look Dustsoft, I'm not trying to pick on you here but there are some significant issues with your project at its core.

I'm not sure if this is a bigger embarrassment to yourself or RMN in general. It's clear we've failed the site letting something like this be venerated and I'm going to apologize to everybody in advance.
