Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

Actually, Vice mode works better for Scott if you want a Focus Shot every round, which I realized quickly. I used it on Scott whenever he was in my party from then on.

And I know about Zero-System and its game-breaking potential. If the enemy was already weak to SHO or BRN, then I'd use that. But most endgame bosses aren't, but are weak to FRZ, which is why I gave him the X-System instead. Elemental exploitation > weapon gimmicks, in my opinion.

Really, the huge amounts of customization and strategies are a big part of what makes this game so great. :D

If you've seen Missileboater's vid on defeating the fully-powered Behemoth, though, you'll see that Leon is capable of dealing 45000+ damage with Blast Revolver. O_O Requires CRIT and ATK boosts, as well as the Demon King Cradle, to pull off, however.

After reading this post, I realized that the Behemoth was actually weak to Burn. So I went back with Leon equipped with one Zero-System and a Joker Card, and here are the results:

Apparently, CRIT status heals you per round, so I couldn't get Leon down to 1 HP( used Vice since it gave the highest ATK stat boost of the +EX modes ). After that, I realized how much shorter the fight would've been if I used that setup.

The second to last hit was a 33810.

I actually did have a video right before this where he did even more damage, but it didn't record the sound so I decided to redo it.
O_O

I am speechless.

(I do wonder how well it would work on Aila, though, since she isn't weak to Burn... DKC hits with all elements though, so it'd hit her weakness to Psych. What of the final bonus boss, though?)

I'm going to have to dig up one of my earliest saves to find out, but I think Zero-System would still be good if you pair it up with a PSY sync. My problem is I don't really have another character that can take out the orbs fast enough ( Only Leon, Erin, Gray, and Hawk are above level 40 ). Gray might work, but I'll have to test it.

The Buffed up Alter Aila is weak/strong to nothing ( 100% resistance to all ), so best to use your favorite damage combo.

Actually:

After doing an Analyze on both Ailas, they are both weak/strong to nothing ( 100% resistance to all ), not sure where you got that it was weak to Psych.
Really? I analyzed Aila the first time she's fought, and she has a 25% resistance to everything except Psych, which she has a 50% weakness to. My party for fighting her was Erin, Gray, and Violet, so I guess I didn't get a chance to analyze her... I assumed it would be the same, though. :/
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the image tags to work for me, else I'd post the resistances of both.

Yeah, I didn't got it right first as well. You have to copy the adress of the actual picture and not the locker page the picture is displayed on. Right click the picture and click "Copy graphicadress" or something similar (My browser isn't english). In Firefox it should be the third option.
Then you would need to put it in the tag:

I stole these pictures from your locker. These were the ones you wanted to show, right?
By the way:
The version argh is talking about is the Aila you fight the first time. The battle only with Leon and Erin.
There she did have resistences and weaknesses. This was back in the Underwater Facility 2.

Ah thanks, I just can't find the list of these commands, so that's why I just ask.

And I forgot about that fight, I don't really have a save that far so I'm not going to bother checking, but I'll take your words for it.

Actually, where did we find the Zero-System at? I might speed up my LP just so I can get up to that point and test the theory.

And to follow up with one of my posts a few posts above, I tried to use Chaos + Toxication field with CRIT on Leon to try and get his HP to 1 when he uses Blast Revolver. Unfortunately it seems that he still gains HP after using the skill. Too bad Killing Point reduces the HP after the hit.

Actually, with further testing, it seems like a character can't get below 10% of their Max HP after taking an action with CRIT active. Leon was able to go from 710 HP to 651HP, but when he was at 113 HP he went back up to 651HP.
Jackal Labs, I think.
But you can try finding Tinder during Phase 3.
I think he does sell them... wich would be in the Dam Facility that isn't really much earlier...
I am not sure, though. I might confuse it with X-System.

Alright, I'll look around in those areas when I get to them, thanks.
Im currently stuck at the underwater facility and i have no clue what to do it seems ive been doing a loop for about an hour
You can use the teleporters multiple times to get to different locations. That should help you majorly.

Also, I can't believe I forgot to ask this in my initial questions post, but Neok, how did you come up with a villain like Aila? Villains are important parts of a story, and Aila in particular is a very interesting character.

Best way to avoid that is to prevent Leon from using it altogether. The Breakdown Field is pretty much essential if you're really planning to fight him fair. I'm not sure if you'd have EX Crush Fields at the time, but they'll certainly help if you do. AP Crush Field and Erin's Sniper, if you can get it off, as well as the Debilitate Field, will help to also prevent him from using Ether Round too freely once he's unable to get his Exceed. SPD Boosters would really help as well, since those extra turns are essential in order for you to do damage while staying alive. Erin isn't that great at doing damage with just her abilities, so it'll take quite a while ( Leon's HP is buffed up considerably if I remember, kind of like fighting Green back in AA ). It's been a while since I've fought him, but that's what I could remember.

And if all else fails, just throw Combat items. Leon should be weak to Shock and Psych. If you do take this route, try to equip a Mode that has a positive gain on HP per round, such as Assault, but stay away from ones that lock status, as you'll still want SPD Booster.

Beat him by throwing 3 level 2 force type combat weapons, there were lots of explosions in the air. Didn't know he was weak to Shcok and Psych, on second thought, how are we suppose to know? I just figured he was "humanoid" so I went with force.

It's more of an assumption than anything right now. Since Leon, as a playable character, is weak to Shock and Psych, I assumed that the enemy version was the same.

Kind of like when you fought Black. Hawk himself attacks with Shock and Force with his Orbital Assault and Indignant Variation. And those are the elements that he hits you with when he uses them. He himself is also weak against Shock and Force, and so was Black.

Leon, as a playable character, is neither weak to nor strong against Force, which's probably why the Force items worked. Again it's all assumptions, but I base it on what I know.

If you can tell me which Phase you were on when you fought him, I can confirm it.

Kind of slacking in my boss walkthrough though, should be up to that point by now. Guess I'll catch up tomorrow.

Actually, just went back and got the stats, and I was correct:

And yeah, that's a lot of health to go through with only Erin's offensive abilities.

I guess I was lucky he didn't use his ultimate move at all when I fought him one-on-one ~ ~

The other way to prevent 1-hit KO without using EX crush field is to time his EX attack and defend. That way damage is reduced. SPD Booster works well to ensure you time the defending right. :)

This was the strategy I used when in Indy Vs Dark Indy. Defeat dark Indy while she's at level 29 :0 (using G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N. that is)
Hey Neok, is the glitch at about 5:15 of ...
Yeah, I've seen it happen before. *Shakes fist at 2k3 dbs*

Oh, and I found this rather ... strange glitch with Erin during the battle against the Round 1 team:
That one's new to me though. o_O

Also, I can't believe I forgot to ask this in my initial questions post, but Neok, how did you come up with a villain like Aila? Villains are important parts of a story, and Aila in particular is a very interesting character.
Umm.. I'm actually not sure I remember now. It's been something like 5 years since Aila first appeared in original AA. I know I wanted to have a villian with relatively "neutral" intentions (since a lot of the underlying theme of AA was on choices and on making your own path versus following a set good, neutral, or evil path). So I guess somewhere along the way, Aila came out and her backstory and involvement in the game was developed.

To tell you the truth, I actually don't think Aila works that well as the main villian of AAG. Since the choices theme and multiple routes from AA got scrapped for a linear storyline, I thought it might've been better to make her less of a sympathetic character, so a lot of her backstory and explanations got cut out (Sometimes I see people complaining about having a sympathetic villian, instead wanting to just feel vindicated in taking the final boss down.) Still, her original story was already established, and I liked it enough not to retcon it.

In any case, I'm just gonna say that what I have in mind for the villian(s) of AAV will be.. interesting ;). Definitely a much better fit than Aila in any case.

Yeah, if you watched for a few more minutes of it, you'll see that I was laughing at it for about 3 minutes. Somehow it was strangely amusing to me.

Oh, I do have a question:

Since Dread, Hawk, and Scott apparently died, what are you planning as far as tanks ( survival ) characters are concerned? Because as far as I can remember, I think those three were the only ones with above average HP growth in the main cast.
