Date, create, and share!

Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?

In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!

You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.

The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

New game forthcoming, some might like to know

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....

Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?

So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

SOS!!!!

Practically all the custom content downloads are corrupt *Sad*(( I tried downloading again but it keeps being corrupt or "cannot open, ended unexpectadly"

I want to try and get the other girls *Sad*

You're not talking about the "all-in-one-DLC download" I complied, right? Because that? That would be stinky. Actually, it's pretty stinky regardless of how you got this error!

Not that I have the wherewithal to deal with this right now, but I'll share it with the crew down in RMN-land.

Since none of the compressed files are corrupted in actuality, I'd say their decompressor is out of date or not compatible. Another scenario that pops up right now is the possibility that all of the downloads were disrupted, though it is highly unlikely. We could inspect the matter more thoroughly if we had their specs and the name of the program (s)he's using.

Has anyone cleared the sneakier version of the janitor mini-game? I ask, since I cleared it during a recent run of the game with Fran (No, she's not done yet, but I wanted to do a trial-run with what I had. Wait, this is Marrend talking?), Masako, Uchioniko, and Yoko. You know what happened? Nothing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that mini-game is supposed to end automatically when one clears it?

Mind you, this isn't something I'm expecting anybody outside of Big Boss to fix, whenever he gets his new computer anyway. I just thought it was a bug worth mentioning.

I cleared it multiple times last week while I was testing Fran. Maybe you're... toilet paper blind? I don't know.

Possibly! I only picked up eight. So if there's actually nine on those stages, and I didn't see one, well, derp-fail on my perception!

*Edit: In hindsight, I should have made a screenshot of this.
I think I put 9 (or was it 10?) in each room.

I wanted to to a short test-run of one of Fran's stories. I also had Yoko active at the time. I did not have Uchioniko as active content, so, I was expecting the warning about how not having them would disable certain content. What I didn't expect was the next error message:

Error referencing the global story hash. Failed lookup for "Yoko/Yoko_story.txt". Please tell flowerthief!

For some reason, I thought I needed to do something with the "records" file to fix this. So, I checked my "records" file, and cleared it out of all data except for the part that indicates what modes are active. That didn't help, so I removed "records" file entirely to see what that did. That didn't help either. I moved Uchioniko in, and that, of course, produced no errors whatsoever. However, that's not necessarily the solution we want. Is it?
Okay thanks, one of many issues for me to look into in January, if I can remember it.

Not the first time, by any stretch. When was the first time I noticed this happening? There's the post! The response from flowerthief is the next post.

He says that it should clear off in a matter of hours, but, there have been times that it doesn't clear off for days. If the options he presents in his response post are the only ones we have, well, I can see where he's coming from.
So I downloaded this game a few days back and it's honestly amazing. Are you still working on coming out with more stuff for this game or working on another game? Because I would absolutely love more of this.

I'm glad you like it!^^ And yes, there's still more content in development, as well as a few routes available, both in the form of DLC, and our lead developer(Flowerthief) is working on a new game(we suspect, anyway). We're going through a huge rehaul of our content right now, however - Junko's and 21's route will change significantly, and the Uchioniko is being expanded somewhat. It might worth to wait a few weeks/months and look back then.

The revamps on my plate are certainly going to be a while because my surface thoughts are on a completely different project!

Side note: The main site seems to be functioning right now, but I cannot guarantee that it will not go down again. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I imagine that finishing the game with no characters romanced (Meaning "at a state of LOVE or better.) would be worse than the generic ending. Not that I've actually seen what happens when no characters are romanced at the end-game, but it can't be good.

Anyway, now that you've seen what comes in the box, as it were, perhaps you might be inclined to see what others have made?
Just want to say I love the game! I am new to it and have looked all over and haven't found any info on what it means when you are in the bedroom and want to call a girl and the heartache info shows red instead of white? Does it mean they are susceptible to accepting a date? Just a thought as I have no idea.

I'm pretty sure having a character with a red heartache meter merely indicates that the character has a maxed-out heartache meter. If you fail to make contact with the character by the end of the next day (This includes "phone phase"), there will be a message at the beginning of the next day basically saying that the character is pissed off.

Thanks for replying. But I frequently have characters with red heartache meters that are at 1/6, 2/12, 2/6, etc. I try to never let them get maxed out. So I still don't know what the red signifies? I figure it has to be important and I try and call the girls with the red meters 1st but I haven't made the correlation to what it means.

I know there is a "confidence boost" tile (The heart-looking object), but I've not particularly noticed what effect that has on a character that has a heartache meter. I have noticed that characters with red heartache meters tend to have maxed meters, or are about to be maxed, though.
Yep, all that red means is that the heartache meter is approaching max, similar to how your life bar turns red in an RPG when your character's health approaches 0.

Confidence boost is not displayed visually and is unrelated to the heartache meter.
