Date, create, and share!

Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?

In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!

You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.

The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

New game forthcoming, some might like to know

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....

Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?

So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

That seems to be wrong. I only have 9.
Btw, what's with all the hentai posters in the convenience store? o-o lol?
Good job :)
the story is great but kinda short.

Which ending did you get? Even if you're working off the built-in characters, there's 16 possible endings.

Note: I'm basing this guess off of there being eight built-in characters, each having one "generic" ending and at least one "non-generic" ending.
Nah, just 8 character-specific endings, one for each built-in character.
However, the actual ending is preceded by an event where you meet Miki after school, and there are 3 variations of that. Then, you either get the non-generic (character-specific) ending, or else you get a very short generic ending. (I think there are 3 variations of the generic ending, too, but I don't remember exactly)

I've an interesting situation for us today. I've been getting messages lately. The sender has the "Uchionkio" custom content pack, and has been constantly getting this error message:

Error: Image 'Uchioniko\ruri-unfriendly' not found in the 'Tachie' directory for the UNFRIENDLY field for character ID=11 in file 'uchioniko_profile.txt

At first, I thought that this was merely an error with extracting the files. We had a bit of back-and-forth, and during this exchange, I gave the sender a sample directory of where the graphics could be located. The response back was that the directory structure of where the graphics were located agreed with my sample.

I'm somewhat at a loss of what to tell this person, but if there is any information that we might still need, I'll do what I can to get it!
They didn't send any printscreens though, I'm guessing? Oh, come on. It's the first listed tachie of the girl with the lowest ID in the set, and it's only happening on a single PC. I had enough of that BS when Enderstar came, and at least he had the decency to post it into the open. I won't let them waste your time. We'll fix it when they don't expect you to do your job with nothing to work with. Say what they want, word's not proof. We know the content works if you install it properly. Whatever issues they have is either a mistake on their part or an anomaly we can't possibly fix, so don't bother until they do.

I ended up asking about the precise process of what occurred with the installation of Uchioniko. I also asked for screenshots of the directory structure, and provided a few shots of my own directory structure (especially "Tachie/Uchioniko") in hopes that some comparison can be drawn.

Also, understand that I'm getting these messages through my personal e-mail account. Which is telling me that this particular person very probably knows about the game more through the official site than through this venue. Though, I suppose it did not occur to me that, if this supposition was true, this person could have posted on the official site with this problem. Oh well.

I hope nobody needed a copy of version 2.3 of this game with most of the custom content up to that point. Because the copy that was in my locker? I've deleted it!

You're not gone!*All the hugs in the world*

That being done, I understand, to a point. Not for a whole month. Seems like I'm doing February's creator checkup early.
I think the flow of new people discovering the game and announcing their own content in progress has been more or less steady ever since the beginning. But it has been awhile since anyone has posted a complete one! Do we need to hold a contest to motivate y'all? :P (no, not serious about that)

I wouldn't mind giving content authors a bit of motivation to get things done. But they can't just be "done", as the fiasco with Fran taught me. They have to be "done right". This is the part where I should suggest something potentially neat and awesome, but that would mean having an idea! Unless...

"Featured Content" to supplement the lack of content reviews? I dunno. Who would even decide that? I mean, I suppose the natural response would be some kind of conspiracy consensus between flowertheif, Dozen, and myself, but...

There are!:D Most of them are not free, sadly(and of course none of us would ever steal or anything;), but there are a few free titles we can recommend: Brass Restoration, deiz, Yandere-chan, and, well, if you think Heartache's good, you're in for a good surprise, because Katawa Shoujo kicks our ass six days from Sunday.
can i find these on RPGmaker?

No, these aren't on RMN(Your Google-fu is weak!). Brass Restoration's english version can be downloaded from Yandere Translations, deiz is on DeviantART, Yandere-chan is from the Ren'ai archive, and Katawa Shoujo has it's own website. I'm warning you though, neither of these are cuddly and lighthearted like Heartache is. Yandere-chan is especially dark.
