Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?
In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!
You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.
The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....
Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?
So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

Can someone please help me in creating my stories? I'm having trouble, because it says it can't find the specified tachie for the ID.
This error is usually due to an invalid binary path, which can be caused by pretty much anything from typos through unknown formats to missing redundant lines - it's rather boring and unintuitive to chew trough all the possibilities. Copy the profile in question here, upload screens of the images and folder structure to speed the process up, we'll fix the mistake fast and clean.

So where can one like myself find some sort of FAQ's for this game. Such as how to get the good endings instead of the generic ones. Even a hint would be nice :3. Great game btw, I've been searching for months since I found Katawa Shoujo. This is the first VN that I've found fun since then (Aside from maybe Shuffle! but the translation is meh.)

And since I'm bored, here's the breakdown of each route. Remember, these are optimized for the girl in question. You will be warned if a choice will close you out of a route, or affect your progress with a girl negatively.
Required stats: You must have at least the number indicated in these stats to finish a route.
Bonus aff: These stats help improve your relation faster than others.
Bonus events: You get extra events with this character if you pursue them and your main at the same time. May or may not be a terrible thing to do(though all of them are terribly amusing). Moral implications are color-coded for your convenience: Good, Neutral, Evil.
Miki
Required stats: 50 Soul. Bonus Aff:20 Athletics, 20 Mind, 30 Personality. Bonus events: Keika, Riho
1. Start game with Athletics bonus.
2. Focus on Mind until 20.
3. When Miki challenges you to race, don't cheat. With 20+ Athletics, you win by default. (Bonus: Riho. Penalty: Tsubasa and possibly Akari. )
3. When Miki and you talk about plans, say you have an idea.
4. Focus on Personality until 30.
5. If you meet Shihoko at the gate, don't approach her.(penalty: Shihoko.)
6. Eventually, Miki will ask you help her steal Masashi from Shihoko. Accept. Don't worry, it won't work.(Penalty: Shihoko.)
7. Date and impress. Her last crucial events will come automatically while in school.

Whoops, posted before I was done. Oh well. This much does it for a start. More will come as I update this post.
Mind, neither I nor anybody here will not tell you, or anyone for that matter, which one is the good answer for any event. A bad choice only hinders progress, and you should be able to figure out based on each girl's personality. We support cheating, but not self-inflicted social damage.

I also found an error in the writing. I don't know if anyone cares anymore. But in one of Hinami's scenes whens shes asking you what her favorite food is on the roof she then says she is going to chase a blushing boy around. Then it proceeds to say (Akira chases the poor boy around) which would make no sense as shes not there, and would not chase boys around anyway. Just a note.

The website is still up, yes. However, there's not much going on there right now, because it's been a while since there's been a finished character to post. My own character, Yoshimura Noriko, is about 95% finished, and will presumably get posted there when it is.
There were comments posted on the main site on the 16th of July. There is also the poll that is running that currently has 20 votes. That's the only recent activity that I'm aware of.

One of the best RPG maker. While their are some logic flaws here and their the game is really fun. Only thing that annoyed me to hell was the Keika event, in which she tells you about the bug in the classroom and you receive the text "Keikas ending". Even when I got her down to friendly the event would still happen every 2 events. Brutally annoying. I dont know what this triggers but I had to reload like 163778216387 times when I wanted another end and not start the game form the very beginning.
I don't know what causes the "encounter table" to "roll" a certain character, if that's what you mean. If you're asking about what the text "Keika's ending available" means, it's... pretty self-explanatory?

Marrend, when you're not sure what other people are saying, would you kindly not talk back?
He meant he gets Keika's ending prematurely. It isn't in the code, so probably a corrupted save. Sorry Cronix, unless flowerthief edits the save itself for you, game's a goner.

So does everyone else. Any one software can refuse to work or any one system for thousands of reasons. A little more specific? Error messages, installed custom content, log, etcetera?

It says that the RGSS player has stopped working. I haven't installing any custom content (I just downloaded the game and it gave me this error as soon as I opened the game) Where can I find this log? I just registered here so if I missed something on here, show me where I can find it and I can try to work with it.

I see! This is a common problem when using programs made in RPGMaker. Happens when Microsoft's loony Data Ex. Prevention wakes up one morning and decides it can't read <insert a common and innoxious tool or language here>. Right click your system icon, click properties, go to advanced settings, click performance, DEP tab, and add Heartache to your list of exceptions. That should solve it.
EDIT: Oh, and drivers/directx/codecs involved could be corrupted also. Or very old, though since you use Win7 I find both possibilities unlikely.

Thanks. I figured it was something that Windows 7 may have changed because RPG Maker XP always worked on XP. Now I know what to do when I need to get the RGSS player to work again. Thanks again.

I played it from the beginning again. I rly enjoy this game to relax. Altought the mini-game is quite simple it brilliantly(is that a word?) keeps the whole game fresh. I dont rly like reading nonstop with nothing to do. One of the best RPG-Maker Games in my opinion ;)

Would it be alright if I post the images for a couple characters I'm working on here, or where would I go for that? It's just the images though, I have yet to actually write any of the story. ^_^; lol
