The perfect 'Demo' for an interesting animesque RPG.

Princess Princess is about a group of two men and two women who are on a quest in search of the (Dragon) King's daughter. However, they don't know what she looks like.

STORY (2.5/5) The story is not at the same level as the storyline of games such as Tales of Symphonia (Nintendo GameCube) or Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii). However, a lot of people could be surprised when they find out what the real reason is why The King wants his daughter back and who the real Evil Overlord is.

CHARACTERS (3/5) It seems that the designers behind the game were inspired by (generic) Shonen Anime shows. You got:

-Erik, the wannabe casanova-type, but funny perverted Warrior ('Bros before hoes, man!')

-Remius, the calm and Bishonen magic swordsman that, presumably, has an ill sister he needs to take care of (but goes off on a quest in order to get enough cash to give her medicine or something - I'm just guessing).

-Elicia, the voluptuous maiden and Tank-character of the group who often gets in arguments with Erik (mostly about Sairen's gender).

- Naia, a cute demon girl and speedster of the group who speaks in third-person ('Naia can't remember her name!').

-Sairen, the androgynous, fifth and optional member of the group whose gender is constantly questioned by Erik and Elicia. He/She can use the arts of alchemy which means it can create items by sacrificing an amount of MP. Sarien is probably the Only Sane (Wo)Man of the group as it lampshades the cliché and ridiculous parts of the story and its characters.

The characters are not original, neither are they complex, but they can be quite funny and appealing. There were some moments in the game I had to laugh out loud because the interactions between the characters were so amusing and hilarious.

The villains are also interesting except the King for he's the love-child of Bowser and Doofenshmirtz.

GAMEPLAY (4/5)

It's basic, just the way I like it :) !!! However, if the full version of ACE comes, I hope the designers will pimp the battle system up - as in showing the facesets of the Playable Characters during battle or using a script in which you can use all the 5 characters in battle except of just using the first 4.

GRAPHICS (3/5)

It's average. It's 2D which is fantastic, but it uses the simple RTP charsets from the VX ACE program. It's justified though, due to the Trial's monstrous limitations. The same could be said about the world map. I like the fact that it scrolls and repeats itself - like a globe. The downside is... it looks so small. I can't believe an entire world population lives in two villages and some houses spread across the lands. This is something the designers can work on when the full RMVX ACE version comes ;)!!!

MUSIC (4/5)

Despite the fact that music comes from the RTP, it's very good! It loops smoothly and it kinda sounds better than some of the music you hear in RPG Maker XP and VX's RTP. The music also fits to the atmosphere, the cut scenes and the places where the heroes are.

OVERALL (3.5)

Princess Princess is the first RPG Maker VX ACE game known to this community. It won't win awards for innovation, but the game's simpleness and colourful cast will charm you and hopefully motivate you to fight till you no longer can continue for this game is a 'demo'. 'Team Princess Princess,' I wish you good luck ;)!

Cheers!

I'm not trying to raise a fuss or anything, but is a 3/5 in graphics really appropriate for a straight RTP game?
Were the graphics used well? Does it matter their source?

That's a valid question. How much of the graphics score should be quality of the graphics and how much how well they're used? I would think that quality should be a sizable portion of the graphics score. Isn't the point of the graphics section to answer "how good are the graphics?"
Well, a 3/5 is average - and the graphics of the RTP in RMVX and ACE Games are IMO average. I'm just more of a fun of the XP charsets and such. But I guess a 3.5 wasn't a problem either...

A 2.5/5 is average.
Thank you for the review! I'm glad to see you interpretations of the characters and that the fact about Naia being a demon isn't as vague as I thought it was. I am laughing hard as well over the "inspiration." Yes~ Most of the time my base characters are based on shonen base personalities~ But I wouldn't say anything more than that~ :D

As for the graphics, some are custom~ so it's not an all straight RTP game~

Thank you once again for playing and reviewing <3

Wow. That makes it even more impressive. How long did you spend on the game?
25 hours-ish according to a calculation a friend told me :o
No sleep almost + school

Congratulations. You have beaten RPG Maker on hard mode.
As someone who uses 100% custom graphics, I really don't see how you should factor them in the rating. Even with custom graphics you can still risk your game looking like shit. I just take graphics at face value, then again I don't really equate graphics of a game to a numerical value ever.
Well, I take graphics at face value as well, I just lampshaded the fact that the designer(s) used (mostly) the RTP of VX ACE. The graphics are still decent, but I'm just not a fan of RMVX (ACE) Charsets and such.

The gameplay IS BASIC (though, I wonder if the Alchemist system is either custom or not) and that's IMO a good thing. I myself am not a fan of battle systems such as the ones you see in Chrono Trigger or the Final Fantasy games since IV. I mean, thanks to the basic system you can have any time of the world to figure a good strategy to defeat enemy X.
Man F-G no offense but that is a dick move. It's our job as developers to support each other and if you have beef with the review, then there's a proper less dickish way to do it. You can't expect a person to improve by doing that without getting pissed, let alone it seems like a new member of the community did it.

@Megaheroes the alchemy is just a custom simple system I made with a common event :3
Well, this does seem like a fun game to get into VXA, although I might wait for when you've had a chance to expand it using the full release.
F-G has a weird pride thing when it comes to reviews. It's almost scary, I think it will consume him one day. Like he'll get a mohawk and stalk roger ebert.

You are not arbiter of what constitutes a "shitty" review.

EDIT:
And I will deal with uncivil behaviour.

If the mods don't want me bothering people about bad reviews, they shouldn't accept shitty reviews. It's a pretty simple concept...

You can say something AGAINST it but don't be a total dick about it.

civility is an even simpler concept

And I will deal with uncivil behaviour.

Oh yeah? Well, you are not arbiter of what constitutes uncivil behavior...
Even if you personally disagree with something. You should not try to rationalize your personal distaste into some quasi-objective rule... to...

Oh, cheez, whatever. This is hopeless.

Edit: In case is hard to tell, I was half-joking. Yes, Kentona, I know you own this place. That's very good for you... =P

Edit: In order to elaborate... It is often said: "Be the change you want to be" or something like that. And Fallen-Griever is the change he wants to be when it comes to reviews, that's where his "weird pride thing" comes from, but how well is that working for him exactly? He witnesses how the standards of reviews drop over time despite his efforts... Now, I don't like his shitty ways to say things either, but 1) I can see past that. and 2) Since when do we care about the quality of our posts when we don't care about quality where it matters the most?

And the fact that these "less than stellar" reviews are often written by new member in the community is really not an excuse, they already have an example set by older reviewers, they have whole guides on the subject available for them to read, and after all they have eyes, ears, and a brain of their own. So why does this happen then? And what is it being done to fix it?

I'm torn on this issue, really, I like to think that "All feedback is good feedback" but I don't exactly subscribe to the "Every review is a gift" school of thought. I wish the people that run this place weren't so hasty to accept everything that comes their way and actually encouraged people to improve their submission before they ultimately accept them... Does this happen? I don't know. I doubt it...
