Hi Nightfly,

I defeated the dragon lord, and ever since then, Roto's armor no longer heals me while walking around. Is this by design? I've tried to unequip and re-equip, and quit and reload, but it still doesn't work.

Terrific game though! I'm really enjoying it. Took me a minute to realize why the words NICE!!! were scrolling across my screen but I finally got it lol :)

Thank you! And yes, Roto's armor will no longer heal after defeating the Dragon Lord. This is just something done in post to nerf reliance on it as a free heal. Gotta balance the 3 herbs with it somehow.
Okay thank you for the reply! That’s a totally fair balance decision and I’m glad I know the game isn’t bugged haha

This has been a great DQ1 experience I especially like the remade mountain cave and the new pyramid dungeon. The flow of the game really nice I don’t feel like I need to constantly grind and the new items are all fun to use. Thanks so much for this

No problem! The game definitely had bugs but that wasn't one of them, lol.

But I'm so happy to hear that you had a good time with the game. Mountain Cave is one of my favorite ones in the game. I definitely tried to make normal a pretty grindless experience. You are welcome!
I hate to be "that guy" since I'm loving every part of this so far, but a little thing I noticed about some extra content:

It seems a little odd that the ship at Southport and the Mini Medal Castle Island both show up at the same time, and the Captain shows up on the island even when logically he should be in one place or the other depending on the state of things.

SUPER minor, I know, so sorry for being a nitpicker. Just something that irks my sensibilities. Figured I'd give it a shout for consistency's sake, even if you have much bigger problems at the moment.

Now that I got it off my chest, back to enjoying the game!

I legit was just too lazy to do that. But I'll add it now, lol.

Edit: Actually, I think the way I explained it to myself is the other guy is a different ferry. So therefore, he always has to be on that island...does that work? lol

Edit 2: Nah, I'll just do it right. Angels and demons, angels and demons on my shoulder...
What's the NICE that sometimes shows up when i'm in battle?
Not sure why but when i was fighting a gold man when I defended without being buffed i took 9 damage. When I defended after buffing i consistently took between 13-16 damage. Is this a bug or am I just unlucky?
Yup upon fighting 3 more Gold men I can confirm that i was taking slightly more damage while i was under the effect of buff.
Also can you update the flee option to make it so that if you flee 4 times consecutively against an opponent that you can run from you just flee automatically? I don't know how your odds of fleeing are calculated but when I encounter chimeras I regularly attempt to flee form them for over 5 turns in a row and the record I got is 8. It's really annoying especially since the odds of running are so much lower compared to every other monster I've encountered.

Um, so in the future can you just DM me any issues so the comments don't get too clogged?

I don't intend to change the flee rates, if you're on hard Buffs don't work anymore. The nice shows up when you have 69 HP. If you want to flee easier from battles, I recommend finding and buying the Silver Bracer.
Postgame question:

I got 4 stars, found Nightfly, and just received the Demon key. When I go there I’m trapped between mountains and can’t progress. What am I missing?

I'm up to Mercado so far and am having a great time. I could feel how painful animating a lot of these sprites must have been, and I'm really admiring the level of polish that you've put on all the visuals and the customized 1v1 battles. Superb.

There's some good and some bad to my mind as I play. But I can tell you two things right now:

1) I'm really happy that you've put all the little goodies and new areas across the map in addition to the traditional locations. They may not amount to much, but in a game as bare bones as Dragon Quest I they go a long way to making the world more rich and letting players scratch the exploration itch. No future games had as interesting or expansive world maps as I & II but they were so empty! Hidden landmarks and items were the touch most needed.

2) I'm disappointed that you can't throw torches or holy water at enemies. It was a very negligible feature of the GB version but there are so few items as it is, best to give them as much versatility as possible for the additional fun factor.

Question: Does the Death Necklace exist? I don't want to go rolling dice to find out; was just curious.

Glad you're having fun so far and yes much time went into the monsters, battles and visuals. Of course I expect some things not to land very well with some players. Gotta take the good and bad in terms of criticism!

I definitely tried to make exploring Alefgard just a bit more interesting and I am happy to see people are taking well to these additions.

In terms of throwing torches and holy water at enemies...this is something I don't think I've ever tried in DQ! I had no idea you could do that. I might add it back in if I have the time. My goal is to move on from the game with the new year but I'll see what I can do.

The Death Necklace/Choker does exist in this game.
Played the game, really enjoyed it. Think I cleared everything ... hit level 50, won the demon world.

There are still 4 ??? entries at the end of my World Key selection page, and a page and a half of ??? entries at the end of my spellbook. Am I ... right that these are un-fillable? I'd hate to think I was missing so much content ... even though I'm like 99% sure the game is over...

Yeah you probably beat everything at lv 50 lol. There are no more keys after Demon Key. More were planned but I decided to move on from the game by the end of the year so I can move on to making my own game in a different engine. Somebody brought up the idea of "sponsoring" more keys to be made but IDK how I feel about that.

Anyway, I'm glad you had enough fun to keep going that long! Thanks for playing!
I figured as much, especially given the snarky message I got for hitting level 50 (beat 'the superboss' at ... 39 I think.) I might suggest removing all the extra ???s if there's another patch?

I might also nitpick that Impossible Mode ... really seems to be exactly what it says on the tin. Fixing the basic slimes to give 1xp instead of 0xp might ... make the initial grind far, far more doable? I tried anyway, running from the blue slimes, facing only Red Slimes - one per inn visit - and gave up when I saw the inn price scaled to my level. (And I'm not sure the Impossible-mode post-game content would be doable even at level 50. At least without buying millions of gold worth of meat.)

Regardless - this was an EXCELLENT game, and I truly enjoyed it. Thank you for spending so long making it!
