Over two years have passed since Squall and his comrades defeated the witch Ultimecia and brought peace to the world.
A peace that was short-lived.
Dollet, sensing Galbadia's weakness after the tyrannical rule of the possessed Sorceress Edea and the many conflicts with SeeD, rallied the resistance factions and remaining Timber military to their cause and set out on a crusade to reverse what the Sorceress War nearly two decades ago did.
As Galbadia grappled with their losses, the newly united faction struck and war ignited across the Galbadian continent.
Balamb Garden and SeeD, originally intending to remain neutral in the matter, the route Esthar took, were called upon by the the Timber resistance factions after SeeD's contract with the Forest Owls was leaked. Unable to back out of the all-encompassing "until Timber's independence", SeeD were washed into the escalating conflict with Galbadia. Galbadia Garden, barely re-established, allied itself with Galbadia unconditionally, pitting SeeD against SeeD.
In the midst of an incursion in Dollet City, Squall Leonhart vanished, motivated an unknown quest for answers. As he continues his search, those closest to him are tasked with his retrieval, all the while asking questions of their own--
What could cause him to leave?

Their is a lot about 8 that bugged me.... i hope your game .. corrects these problems... some things that 8 did was ... just off.

Hey I've been checking out your game for a while now. Final Fantasy 8 is my all time favorite RPG game. I was thinking about your story line for it, have you ever thought about chucking in the Final Fantasy Renoa/Ultimecia conspiracy within it?
I consider most popular theories while creating plots for this game and present my own reasons as to why most of them don't apply.
Rinoa/Ultimecia I don't support mainly because the entire theory makes Rinoa out character and relies on amnesia, which while plausible if she continued with extended GF use, this game debunks that by cutting it out of the picture.
Anyway:

- Rinoa is not afraid of the future, nor one to dwell in the past. She is constantly looking forward, even if she's not sure what will happen next.
- Ultimecia is several centuries ahead of the main game, so this is only plausible if Rinoa doesn't pass on her powers.
- Ultimecia has no concept of SeeD's purpose while Rinoa is fully aware of it (created to fight Sorceresses if the need should arise). She also knew what SeeD was well before the game even started; she found out about it from Seifer.
- Ultimecia basically attempted to kill Rinoa not once, but on two separate occasions. (End of Disc 1 and leaving her in space on Disc 3). Judging by Ultimecia's actions, she has no pre-knowledge of the events that will follow, so if this theory is correct there's two opportunities where the entire plan would have fallen apart because she would have stopped existing.
- And if she didn't have amnesia, the last point brings up a specific idea: Ultimecia has no idea what will happen next. She has not lived through this time period, while Rinoa has.
- Additionally, the theory is slightly ridiculous because it is quite clear that Ultimecia's concepts and ideas are most definitely not taken from Rinoa...but they ARE taken from another member of the cast, you see. Afraid of the future, refusing to look back into the past, seeking to live in a singular moment so the pain of losing everything doesn't occur. Rinoa does not think like this. It is Squall who thinks likes this. Ultimecia presents and interesting concept in that Squall's preconceived notion is himself and the opponent having different views rather than being good vs. evil: Ultimecia and Squall share the same viewpoint, but Ultimecia is the one with the ability and selfishness to actually attempt to make that view a reality.

I like how you elaborated on those factors. I never thought about Squall's selfishness but he wasn't enough to do what Ultimecia would do. Kinda given me more thought into the main villain of my game now. Do you think you'll be chucking anything like that in your own game though? The whole Conspiracy??

I'm not sure on the conspiracy deal. Certain plot elements and factors could potentially be viewed that way, but usually it's players or readers creating them than the writer, haha. I leave some elements open, but tying everything up completely ruins a bit of the fun.

May I ask what is this "0 of 3 episodes complete"? From the previous blog posts you published I presume that the game will be divided into several discs called "episodes", right? And you'll publish each of them once each is finished, correct?
Yep! Sleeping Lion Heart's separated into three 'parts'. I call them Parts when speaking about dev, but the game will indicate 'DISC' (it's already basically in there, the save menu has DISC, RANK and OBJECTIVE indicators scripted in).
I'll probably release them one at a time and then release a complete edition as a full game.
