New Demo Release Information

I know I haven't posted many updates lately, but that's mostly because all of my work as of late has been on maps and events, and not battle/flashy visual stuff. Anyway, the next (and FINAL) demo of the game is coming together! This release will be the last demo release until the full game is available. I don't want to keep releasing demo after demo, potentially forcing players to keep starting over from the beginning to see new changes (and saves will probably be incompatible between releases as scripts are added).

Everything included in the Release Something Weekend demo will be there, which are the following areas:

(D) = Dungeon
(T) = Town

* (D) Palamecian Research Facility
* (T) Mysidia Shore
* (T) Mysidia
* (D) Mysidia Cavern
* (D) Mt. Mysidia
* (T) Chocobo Farm
* (T) Lix

Plus an additional 15-20 new areas:

(D) = Dungeon
(T) = Town

* (D) Mi'ihen Highroad (Completed)
* (T) Figaro Castle
* (T) South Figaro
* (T) Carwen
* (D) Mist Cave
* (T) Cleyra
* (D) The Feywood (Otherwise known as the Phantom Woods)
* (D) Matoya's Mansion
* (D) Sanubia Sandway North
* (D) Sanubia Sandway South
* (T) Jahara
* (D) Ogir-Yensa Sandsea (Otherwise known as the Shifting Sands)
* (T) Gold Saucer (Battle Arena, Chocobo Racing, Arcade are located here)
* (T) Tycoon Castle
* (T) Rabanastre
* (T) Treno (Auction House is located here)
* (D) Archadian Badlands (Overworld area similar to the Veldt from FF6)
* (D) The Big Bridge
* (T) Modeoheim
* (T) Dragon's Neck (Colosseum is located here)

All of these locations will definitely be included in the release. I'd expect more dungeon areas to pop up between some of these locations, as well; but that's not determined just yet. All of the planned features of these areas will also be included, such as auctions, and the Gold Saucer arcade area.

As far as how complete all of this work is, it's in bits and pieces. I'm putting together the maps and events of various new areas all at once, doing whatever work I can each day. Let's move on and talk about party members...

By the demo's end, the player will have access to the following permanent party members:

* Cid
* Reeve
* Vicks
* Wedge
* Lyra
* Ellie
* Beclem
* Dajh (In a guest capacity)
* Parker (In a guest capacity)

As well as being able to use the following guest party members briefly:

During Cid's infiltration into the Palamecian Research Facility...
* Soldier Cloud (Red Magic)
* Soldier Squall (White Magic)
* Soldier Locke (Black Magic)

During Lyra's Epilogue...
* Bodyguard Firion (White Magic)
* Bodyguard Guy (Black Magic)

??????...
* Black Mage Vivi (Black Magic)
* White Mage Garnet (White Magic)
* Elder Homak (White/Black/Red Magic)

Each of the guest characters uses magic as their Ability Set and each has their own unique library of spells to fit the situation they are used in. Moving onto Aeons...

The player will most likely end up seeing and obtaining the standard four elemental Aeons (Ramuh, Ultros, Shiva, and Ifrit). There will be at least two more optional Aeons to be obtained in the demo, however. One will definitely be Golem, and I haven't yet decided which other one to include just yet; onto the technical script stuff!

The player will have access to many of the game's scripted menu features in this demo, including Synthesis, Augments, Collections, Bestiary, Help and the Music Player.

After a long hiatus, Victor Sant (author of many scripts used in FFD) has popped up to do some bugfixes on his existing scripts. I probably won't add any scripts to the game until those are released, and I can update everything properly. One fix is crucially important to me: counterattack scripts are currently crashing the game, and once they're fixed, battles will be so much better. Right now I'm using some workarounds to test things beforehand.

So that's basically it, I won't reveal any new plot stuff and I'm trying not to add screens that will be full of spoilers, so things on the FFD page here will be relatively quiet for a little while as I work on stuff, but I'm going as fast as I possibly can, heh (these castle tiles are a BITCH to compile properly, by the way).

Feel free to leave any questions here and if I can answer them without spoilers, I will. Before anyone asks, I do not have any idea on any time frame in which any of this stuff will be 100% ready, so please keep that in mind.

Lets see...uh...do you have a time frame?
Seriously, looking forward to it whenever its ready!
My little heart is beating with great joy!

Edit: But posting some location map wouldn't be a spoiler, would it?
This is interesting. About how far will the completed demo (once everything's finished of course) be in comparison to the full game?

There's no way for me to know that for sure yet. I don't know how long I will make the game right now. Consider that there are five nations that make up the game's world, and all of these areas listed here are located in two of them, though.

I can do that, sure.

Here's the labeled map for all locations currently planned for the next and final demo release of the game. Let's not worry about that "?" area for now. =P
Looking great so far. Are you still going to do the character updates about other character paradigms and play styles in between the time for the next demo?
Most likely, as changes are made. Currently taking another look at Dajh and Blue Magic.
