Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland DLC now available!

Wow, talk about not meeting deadlines, right? Some of you might remember that I annouced a Legionwood expansion pack, way back in late 2010. Although it ultimately ended up being cancelled due to hard drive failure, I managed to recover some of its assets a few months ago and, rather than doing the logical lazy thing and recycling them for Legionwood 2, I decided to piece them together and release the resulting mess.

So then, this is the Legionwood expansion I promised all those years ago but never actually delivered? Well, not really. But it's still a pretty cool addition to the Legionwood world.



Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland is an expansion pack/DLC for Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords. Featuring a huge new story dungeon set in the midst of the game's chaotic fourth act, as well as a considerable number of all new optional endgame quests, a revised final dungeon and over a dozen new Techs to learn, it expands the original game's playtime by at least three hours and adds several long awaited features to game, including a graphical world map and quest journal.

The main addition in Mysteries of Dynastland is the titular Dynastland dungeon, which takes place between the Sealed Library and Lost City Crebt areas in Chapter 4. This sprawling dungeon crawl is filled with new enemies, puzzles and challenges to test your skills against, and also reveals the never-before-seen backstory of Zanthus and his long lost homeland as your party searches for the mythical Purity Crystal, an ancient Precursor artifact rumoured to be able to manipulate time itself.

Other notable additions to the game include 12 brand new Techs, including unique Techs exclusive to certain characters, a new set of powerful Dynastland equipment, a late-game "scavenger hunt" quest that will take you to the furthest corners of the world, a complete overhaul and rebalancing of all late game content and an expanded final dungeon with a new, harder version of Castoth to fight -- in both the normal and "true" varieties. Overall, it pretty much turns the final act of Legionwood into a completely new game, which was one of my main goals as I was always rather unhappy with how rushed that part of the game turned out.

Anyway, if you're itching for some new adventures, you can grab the DLC here. Simply point the installer to your Legionwood directory and extract, overwriting files when prompted. In order to experience the new content at the appropriate difficulty level, I recommend either starting a new game or loading a game that was saved before the Sealed Library, though most of the new content except for the Quest Journal can still be accessed otherwise.

A nice game with a few issues, but I had a good time playing it!
Sideview battles are better than fighting monsters in first person mode, I guess...:)

hi, i downloaded this game from here and the game keep on 'stopped working' when i enter the castle.

Legionwood Launcher has stopped working

when i'm trying to download the deluxe version and migrating my save by copying both Quest1.rvdata and Quest1_ss.png; hoping that i can continue my save over there, i got an error when i'm trying to enter the town:

Script: 'Scene_QuestJournal' line 183: NoMethodError occured.
undefined method 'include?' for nil:NilClass

when i'm trying to copy Scripts.rvdata from my old version to new version, a new error popped up:

NoMethodError occurred while running script.

undefined method `complete quest' for
#<Game_Interpreter:0x2967b20>

is there any way i can do to continue my save file (either in the old version or new version)? i don't really want to restart the game because it's so grindy, but i'm somewhat curious with the story.
Hello! Firstly this game is reaaaaally good! although it's kinda "heavy" on the edges it is fun to play, nice dialogues and characters, great world. The only not so good thing is the long distances you have to walk to re-visit some places,i mean the snowy part you have to go through to reach the library...Too damn long and too many battles, it makes you think twice about going back and forth.Still it's good for lvling up :P
It would be nice to have a skip option tho so if you don't want to grind you won't have to!
Another thing i noticed is the order of the party's attacks and the damage they are doing both physical and magical,they differ most of the times. You can't really plan you attacks cause you don't really know who is going to attack when and how much damage they are gonna make, which is fun when going through the map, but still not so good when you are up a boss.I usually have more than one persons on healing duties just because i don't know which is gonna make a move first.
So here is what happened about half an hour ago...I was in the Forgotten Citadel going back and forth trying to activate the orbs, and i got myself at the test of courage with the three mages,of course Zanthus was not in my party,so he just showed up for the battle ALONE (was he supposed to be alone?), that's ok (my bad for not lvling him up), so i used the strategy book to change my party to lvl him up and then go try my luck with the mages again and somehow i ended up with 5 party members :D
I would say it is the opposite of game breaker but still since the game is a 4party i think it is a bug.I exited the Citadel went to other towns etc, i still have 5 active party members!!!They all fight normaly, i choose the actions AND they all lvl up normaly too.

EDIT: If you beat the mages the party returns to normal.
EDIT 2: While at the portals there is a cut scene after getting out of one of them is Zanthus is not in the party, he still comes back after the cut scene and i, again, had 5 active party members,although you can't use the stones if there already are five active party members. This time the party is not back to normal after the final battle in that dungeon.(That kinda makes me happy :P)

Sup moderator, just to tell the game looks pretty good after downloading just yesterday, hoping for its sequel and made it to ascog castle where i ran into crash bug which few people claims to face it too. I rechecked and modified the game settings according to my comp but the problem still persistss, but i noticed tht its not just cause of scripts rather than the audio files, as every time i enter ascog castle or the entrance of ascog castle, i waited and noticed when the music reach to certain time, the game crashes, and its almost the same everytime, so perhaps if u can send tht specific audio file for ascog castle, i might try again whether the crash bug still there or not. thx for reading the post
i doubt that the dev comes here anymore xD
but they released this game on steam recently and they are doing some adjustments there. maybe you could try the steam version instead.

ps: i did experience that issue when i downloaded the game from a mirror link. i didn't face the crash when i'm downloading the deluxe version which is posted here though.
im playing the deluxe version downloaded from this website, still facing the same crash issue, so im trying to skip ascog castle by continuously moving to diff room where music is diff, so tht i dont crash

I am crashing at the bottom of the ladder in Crebt.

Hi, Dark Gaia! I'm not sure if you're still active in these forums, but I figure I'd give this a shot. I've recently started to play this game, and so far I'm enjoying it. However, I've noticed a few typos in the game's dialogue.

You've made it known already that the game's files are unencrypted and can be viewed in RPG Maker VX, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind me correcting these typos in my personal copy of the game. I wouldn't make any changes to the dialogue other than to fix the typos. It would also give me a chance to explore editing events in RPG Maker, which is pretty cool.

I'd rather not make any edits to the game without express permission of the creator, and I wouldn't want to make any other type of changes to the game at all. Therefore, I would completely understand if you were to say no. I figure correcting typos is a change that doesn't effect anything significant within the game, so these changes would be okay, but again, that's up to you.

Like I said, I like the game so far. I haven't been grinding up my levels like I should, so I'm getting bodied by some of the enemy encounters I'm running into, but that's totally fine. If I'm more patient and fight the enemies I encounter, I should find the difficulty curve a bit easier. The game definitely hearkens back to those old RPG's that I never got a chance to play growing up, so the experience is enjoyable and refreshing so far. Thanks for putting in the time and hard work to produce this great game.

your better off playing the steam version, this version is probably full of bugs and you'll be stuck in a glitch at some point.
Hey there! This game perfectly captured the nostalgic feel of classic jrpgs that I remember loving when I was younger. Question: where did you get the battlers / monster sprites from?
I concur with the nostalgic feel being properly captured!

Look, there's an insane amount of RPGMaker games to play, but Dark Gaia and Ark and the others have captured this feel, this vibe for the nostalgia aspect that a lot of the better-planned, better-illustrated, and even better-gameplay ones do. I wish more people gave it a shot. It looks like many others when you first start, but it you play past the - not a spoiler! -- past the first scripted cutscene, you'll likely be hooked.

The engrish and the maguffin hunting and and and... it all just adds up to a fun videro game that you'll spend dozens of hours in.

Some of the tombstones and townspeople are cute jokes and references to songs, movies, and (I assume) people from DGs & Arks personal experiences. It's smart, and it connects us. I like it, even though it's got very little to do with the game.

I haven't played the sequel yet, but I did d/l the steam version (it's still free) to see, and yes while it's got some of the same errors, it has many of them fixed.

It's still an RPGMaker game, steam distribution or not, so if you really want to edit anything, go right ahead. I know some people enjoy editing the enemies exp table so that the early monsters level you up fast to minimize the grind, but just like not being able to save where you want but only at an inn or crystal, it's an aspect of the game you will RUIN if you can guaranteed win every combat with no risk. As they say "cheating only hurts you" so please resist - at least until your 2nd playthough. (besides it's unnecessary, they planned for this, if you want to grind at the endgame, monsters give great XP and drop stat-increasing lewt, so you can face the final boss with a party of maxxed-out characters, should you wish to do so.)

Your opinion of the Mysteries of Dynastland may vary. It feels more like a tacked-on bit than an integral part of the original, and same for the endgame in the definitive edition; that DG's skills improved over the years is obvious. It ties in well enough that you won't question it anymore than you'd question the other 400 things you have to let go to suspend your disbelief over.

I'd say 8.5/10 but I guess more telling is I loved it enough to buy L2.

Crappy sprite graphics, crappy storyline, crappy regenerating bosses, crappy controls, crappy RPGMaker limitations (god help you if you are a steam user who is used to hitting F12 to take a screenshot - you'll want to punch your monitor when it closes the game.)

Crappy =everything= by 2018 gaming standards, and yet it's PERFECT!
