Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

Ummm... maybe it's because Hero's Realm is so great that anyone would like it...? (obvious ass-kissing much intended)
How do I get back to Stromholm in Ch. 5? Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm kinda lost.
Oh I found it, nevermind, sorry for the hassle =]
Oh I do want to know this for sure though, how do I class change to Daredevils without the use of Elfstones?
You can only class change Jokers into Daredevils without Elfstones (and I *think* you can only class change into Jokers if your base class is that of one of the Rogues - Bandits, Harlequins, Engineers or Rangers). Also, you need to be lvl 20+ to class change.

Ha ha, Hero's Realm is sex.
So far, the game is good. However, is it just me, or is music non-existent in the beginning? I have also noticed incredibly SLOW battle openings. I have just set off from the castle, have my party of 4. However, it takes 10 or more seconds to load a single battle. This, plus the missing music that everyone enjoys so much, makes me kind of turned off. It's not my computer, either (I run a $2500 stick of RAM >.<. As well as cross firing 2 9770's. Doesn't get much better than that).

I have checked the RTP. All music files are there. I tried the game both with the intro, and without. No music.

Only thing left to do is open it up in RPG Maker 2k3, and see if it's just the beginning, or if I have a corrupt folder. However, I don't think it IS corrupt, because all the files are there.

Also, my SW Synth is max, everything else is max. Unless I turned volume off in my game, and it somehow crossed over to your game? I don't know.

I DID enjoy spending about an hour looking at the different classes. I was quite surprised (in a good way) the detail you put into making the class-choice screen.

I would also like to make a suggestion. Instead of having a Name-Changer NPC, and having your name changed if you change classes, take out the name change event when re-doing classes. If you want to change your name, there is an NPC for that.

So far, the battles seem fairly balanced. I haven't had any true issues. (I ended up picking the Mesmer for one of my classes, put everyone to sleep, then just pummel them).

The world map is immense. The town of Stromholm is IMMENSE. I spent an hour there, getting all the hidden items, and making sure I didn't miss anything. I think I ended up with about 4 Tiny Medals. 1 more, and I can get the Boomerang >.<

I also farmed enough so that I could fully outfit my party. Had fun with that. Not. The entrance time is too long.

I will see what's up with that.

Also, I have noticed almost every teleport event is slow. The choose-class screen took 20 seconds per member.

Then the game load is immensely slow as well. Took me 4 minutes to load the game >.<

Wasn't very fun waiting for that. Oh well.

As I said, I will check it out in RPG Maker. If I find out what's wrong, I will edit.

BTW, I quite enjoy the NPC's. Fun people to talk to. Not often I play a game where I WANT to talk to them. From the comments I have read, it only gets better.

However, if I don't find a fix to this lagg issue, I may stop playing. It really is THAT bad. Nothing makes me more irritable than lots of lagg.

EDIT: Will not allow me to open with RPGM2K3. So now I wonder, should I redownload, since I am not very far anyways? Worth a try >.<

EDIT 2: Have discovered the issue. The lag was due to me extracting to my external HDD (not the fastest thing in the world). And the music wouldn't play because I killed a few processes earlier today so that my computer would stop lagging (everytime I log in, about a million processes show up. I kill about 90% of them. Obviously killed the one that allows me to play MIDI's.) So now that I can fully enjoy the game, I will be doing a review soon enough.
Oh thank goodness because I had never heard of some of the symptoms you've had (well, except loading the game initially - it can take some time (not 4mins, but still pretty long) because this game itself is pretty large for the 2k3 engine). MIDI not playing is usually because of the SW Synth volume, but you tried that.

Mesmer gets ragged on a bit for being useless, but I found him decent. He also gets an overpowered skill later in the game called Demi.

Also, Stromholm is the smallest of the 5 starting cities :x ...and Okasa is IMMENSE (too big, even)

Thanks for playing!
Kentona, may I have some help regarding finding the Queen's brother?

Sure. What did you want to know?
Where abouts and how do I find him, does it have to do with the Frozen Throne area?
Is my game glitched? I can't seem to find any gas dragons. The right side of Ozland is barred by the Bonewall. I can get to Cidney and everything though or is it really meant to be closed off. I keep trying to fight on the outskirts of the left side but only wind up fighting the merchant and other creatures.

:o :o :o :o

never in my wildest dreams...

Did you defeat Uber Bathalas in Okasa?

Yeah, I believe he is at the Frozen Throne.
The missing princes, you will find as part of the main plot of the game. Just keep hunting down those good ol' Divine Artefacts, and follow the mini-walkthrough posted on here if you're stuck finding those.

The princes will indeed show up before you're done.
Ugh also I really need to update the media page with my videos. I keep falling behind posting them on here because copying all the links is really annoying. Updating that now.

meisam your not using semicolon properly, and that's a laughing matter.

thanks man, it is a good game, i really like it, specially the multi party puzzles :).

i have one complain: sometimes random encounters become very annoying , specially in elfstones dungeons , it prevent me from playing the game again.

i have a problem, i forget about arena in san vegas, untill my party level was too high and i could only fight in rank A battle, so i missed out on armor of light :S.

also you can't buy armor of light, but it seems you can buy arcana cards from chost merchant, so the rank A prize is not much of a prize.

sorry for my bad english
Thanks for playing!

If I ever got back to fix up the bugs and balance issues (and I haven't in nearly 3 years so take this how you will...) I will be revamping the arena a bit.
I recently finished Hero's Realm and created an account just so I could mention here how much I loved it!

I love old school JRPGs but sometimes they become almost a chore after a while, when you just want to finish the game rather than slog through yet another dungeon full of random encounters, or talk to every generic NPC in the next town. This wasn't the case with Hero's Realm.

From the expansive world map to the towns bustling with well-written NPCs which changed on a day/night cycle, Hero's Realm truly felt like a living, breathing world. Travelling the world and fighting battles with your customized party really felt like an adventure, and the many secrets and sidequests made exploration even more rewarding.
There were more than a few nights where I stayed up way too late playing Hero's Realm without noticing the time go by.

My favorite part of the game was the multi party puzzle dungeons. There were so many but they all managed to feel unique and engaging. I also loved how you could switch parties during boss battles (you never actually needed to, unfortunately, but it was cool!).
Speaking of boss battles, I'm really curious, where is the (regular) boss music from? It's so catchy and fun to listen to!

So in short thanks kentona for such an amazing tribute to classic JRPGs. I can't imagine how much work it was to create such an intricate world. I hope Hero's Realm continues to get more popularity and new fans!

P.S. My favorite character is Holdana! She did an entire party's worth of work by herself :)

I am glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts!
