How to Blog!
author=Addit(I predict Badluck's Ara Fell blog will get the next one XD)You know, I was thinking the same thing too. I mean - it’s freakin’ Ara Fell, for god sakes, and it’s an update we’ve wanted to hear from for years! That alone justifies it enough to get a featured writing spot. (But then again, you could always just give it to me, lol.)
(Me and my big mouth, lol.)
(Sorry Badluck. Hopefully you'll get the next one.)
Looking at good first or flawed games! #1
Good article. I guess it just goes to show you that graphics don’t mean everything and being a first timer isn’t necessarily a disadvantage here. I guess as long as you try your damnest and make the type of game that you wanna make and enjoy making it good things will happen.

As for the article at hand, it’s a great piece from someone who’s usually up there with the blogs that are the most buzzing, most amount, and are relativity well-done and chockful of not only a lot of insightful information about what she’s currently working on but with plenty of interesting screenshots and artwork to go along with it, so Luchino knows hows to do her blogs. :D
I always find that the most interesting blog posts around here are the ones that have a certain creative witty title to go along with it, have a variety of interesting looking screenshots, concept art, or even some general gameplay videos to go along with it, or a big announcement, like a potential release date, new feature(s) added in, author’s notes, or their game got featured on such-such site. Hell, you can even make a giant wall of text interesting as long as it’s short and sweet, like this article, and get away with it.
I guess the key thing is to know when it’s time to blog and know when it’s time not to blog. Yeah, it’s great to have an update every single week about something in particular, but sometimes you just need to wait a litttttle bit longer and have a little bit more patience so you can really impress people with even more information and tidbits on the next announcement. And, hell, if you don’t have that much to say or even talk about you could always just wait a little bit until you have some more stuff to showcase. There’s nothing really wrong with that, as long as people know that you're still working on it and not entirely goofing off. :P
Good article, miss Luchino. Hopefully pretty soon "I’ll" be part of the recent blogging team. I have a certain strategy in mind about how I'm probably going to do it, but it’s nice to hear some more additional pointers from someone else. :)
Gaming Advice With Professor Know-It-All: B-But I Can’t Compete With That
That’s a good motto, actually. I mean, I just recently played something that I made way back then a few years ago and I thought that it was complete garbage compared to the type of stuff that I’m making as of right now. Yeah, it’s not as good as some of the other games that are on here visually or from a gameplay perspective, but it’s the best work that I’ve ever done since I started game making all those years ago and I’m pretty proud of it and I’m sure that there will be a couple of people here that will be just as impressed by it as I would to someone else’s work.
Besides, I can’t let this “unity person” upstage me, can I? :D

It's Okay to Use Rtp or Other Premade Resources
Good article, Ebeth!
Yeah, I’m also one of those “artistically inclined” people that have all the right tools in the toolbox to make whatever he wants but not a proper toolshed to keep them in, as I also struggle to create my own custom graphics and tend to rely on mostly edits or premade resources to get me through – and that’s okay, as I do agree that you don’t’ have to be the world’s most fanciest pixel artist in the world, like Pizza, Ocean and company, to wow everyone over to play your game. Yes, definitely having a great presentation does help a lot in the matter to make your games stand out more over the rest of the crowd, but if the rest of the game plays like garbage then all that fancy, schmancy artwork is just probably covering up the smell.
And besides, if you’re just starting out in game creation or you just wanna play around with a particular engine or just make any old silly thing that comes to the top of your head, then there’s nothing wrong with using the RTP, edits, or any premade resources as long as you give the original content owners either a call or list their names in the credits. And if you don’t happen to have a full credit sequence in your game, like a proper ending, or anything like that, a nice “readme” file or a list of credits on your gamepage will certainly suffice.
I mean, I wish I could create my own custom graphics and use them for my games like other people do, but my biggest problem is really just getting some of these games out the door and just finishing them already. It’s already hard enough to make these things without the use of custom graphics, so I can imagine just how much more time it would take me if I did.
Anyways, good read, and it’s nice to see that you’re not fully dead yet, as I haven’t seen you on here in quite some time, so it’s good to see you around again.

Get Social: #1 Small Talk
I should get unity’s stamp of approval for the next article that I write too. In fact, why don’t we all get unity’s approval for everything that we submit? It might make the rest of us look more classy.

unity approved this? What input did she have, if you don't mind me asking?
I’m sure it was something like,
Kylaila: Hey unity, can you stamp this with your approval, please?
unity: Was is it?
Kylaila: Just stamp it, already; it’s not a big deal.
unity: What am I, a doctor, now? Pfft, fine. *stamps*
Kylaila: Yaaaay - makerscore! *runs off*
unity: …Weirdo.
And good article, Kylaila, and welcome to the article writing club! It’s actually not that hard to write these types of things if you have a slight idea about what you want to write about - and it’s easy! Actually, I’m surprised that nhubi hasn’t written one yet.
And yeah, the best way to make conversation is to just do small talk and just be yourself on here like you are in real life.
(Er...preferably without the use of alcohol and various narcotics...)

Making games pretty
It’s funny how both of us haven’t written an article in like ages - and then here we are, top of the article submission list. Yay! *fist bump*
Anyways, this is a pretty good read from someone who prides herself on pretty looking visuals and luscious map making. But it’s also nice that to know, even from someone like you, that all of this is pretty much useless if the maps are too dark to navigate through or if there’s a ton of clutter on the screen or the graphics clash too much with what’s going on making it rather impossible to see what you’re doing. Even menu making should be simple and not cluttered enough for it to be extremely daunting when the player first opens the menu up. Also, it shouldn’t be really super slow or extremely laggy to navigate through, as that also causes more frustration. (I hate when menus are slow!)
And, yeah, I hate it too when you download a game here with a fantastic, epic looking title page and great looking screenshots only to play something that’s mainly all RTP and stuff and doesn't match anything at all from before, lol. I’ve played a couple of games on here that’ve done that to me in the past.
But good read; it’s nice food for thought.
