Which Castlevania Game is Your Favorite?

Of the NES Castlevanias, I think I probably enjoy Castlevania 3 the most. I love that cool mini map that I get to see, when I finally get to beat a board, hah. I've never been good at NES games, but I find them fun to bang my head against every now and then.

Symphony of the Night and the Metroidvanias for GBA have all been the most amazing of the serious, in my opinion. I did like Rondo of Blood a lot, and I've been wanting to play Dracula X, but that game is so darn expensive...... I've been trying to play Dracula X Chronicles, mostly so I can play the unlockable game. I actually do find the remake enjoyable, and I like Richter's new voice actor. He has a lot more emotion than the more awkward Symphony of the Night.

As for god of Castlevania..... I'm not too big on that style of gameplay. Lament of Innocence was probably the most interesting for me in the game style. I have absolutely no desire to try the new series.... I don't really like the idea that they've just dropped the old continuity.

Video Game Mascot Love

I agree that the Sonic and Mario topic can only go so far. It's not at all open-ended!

Anyway, to get a little more on-topic, I have to say that I like a lot of video game characters that could be considered mascots, but, well, I just have to end up choosing this well-known fellow:

While Yoshi was another favorite of mine as a child, Pikachu simply stole my heart. I couldn't get over his big smile and plush, yellow fur. He's such a ladies' man!

Which Castlevania Game is Your Favorite?

From it's humble beginnings to now, which Castlevania game did you find the most enjoyable to play? Share all that you'd like to about it here!

Out of all the ones that I've played so far, I'd say that Aria of Sorrow is my favorite.

The story was interesting. It had a kind of 'Who Dun It?' feel (to make a comparison), that I found to be enjoyably tense.
Then, when I lost on my first fight against the final boss and they showed me the bad ending, I was impressed. It was one of the first games that I'd seen threaten me with something terrible, then actually deliver on it.

The Metroidvania era for Castlevania has been a great one for the series, or so I think, but adding the ability to capture, and utilize, souls was simply awesome. Traveling around the castle to find every monster felt a bit like trying to collect Pokemon! In a more fatal manner.

I also found Soma Cruz to be an interesting main character, because, considering his background before the events of the game, he's so ordinary compared to the series' other leads. Then, of course, what you find out in game adds to his interest value.

The inside of Dracula's Castle was looking as good as ever (he's such an amazing decorator!), and the music was, in my opinion, at it's best. Castlevania has always had some good music, but the soundtrack to this one really appealed to me.

As much as I'd liked the series iconic title, 'Symphony of the Night', I'm going to have to say that it runs a close second. A lot about that game was pretty awesome, but Aria of Sorrow swept me away.

It's a bit heartbreaking that I didn't find Dawn of Sorrow to be as appealing.

Mario or Sonic: Who Triumphs?

Are we talking about the games or the characters?
I took it to mean either/or.

I was just asking about what everyone here liked about them most in general, whether it be their games, them as a character, both, etc. I think all of the different reasons given here have definitely been pretty good and interesting.

Personally though, I completely disagree with the Kirby thing. I've found him to be such a pushover opponent in the Super Smash Bros. series, not to mention the fact that his games are completely easy (at times, enjoyable, but still easy). The Mario series has gotten easier over the years, but his older games are something to keep you busy for the next decade of your life.

As for Sonic..... I've never really gotten into his games. I've played a few when I was younger, and the only one that really stuck out to me was one I'd played over a relatives' house, and the only reason I remembered it was because of Tails (in a child's mind, the cute, little, flying foxy!). I own the Sonic's Sega Collection on Xbox 360, and I wind up finding myself playing games like Golden Axe and Shining Force, rather than Sonic.

Games you hate or dislike?

Well, they do look very 'flexible'. It was probably done for dramatic effect, speaking that Asian works enjoy being presented dramatically. I can't fairly say anything about the gameplay, however, as I haven't played it, but I've had my fair share of playing games that were dull and not even pretty to look at.

As for the whole Kingdom Hearts thing, I did not intend to completely trash the game; I was just stating what I'd felt personally about it. That only makes it bad for me, not anyone else. I'm sure there are plenty of people here, who haven't piped up on this thread, or have mentioned a different series that they dislike, that like it a lot.

We could easily compare this to Call of Duty. A lot of people love that and think it's good, and a lot of people don't.

It's all just a matter of opinion.

Games you hate or dislike?

I think my least favorite series is probably...... Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts bothers me just because it feels like one of those series where they throw in all these characters people know and love, just to give everyone a bone. You know the, 'Hey, it's that guy!', or the, 'Look, it's that girl!' syndrome. Crossover games make me a little nervous, because of that, but Kingdom Hearts does it to the fullest, in my opinion.

Mario or Sonic: Who Triumphs?

It needed to be asked: Mario or Sonic, who's the best? Tell who you think is better and why. I invite your biased, or analytical, opinions here!

Personally, I'm going to be biased and say, 'Mario'. All for good reasons!

Number One: He is an extremely unique hero in a creative world. Even the story about how he got to the Mushroom Kingdom was fabulous!

Number Two: Despite being your ordinary, everyday plumber, he is able to destroy a giant, monstrous turtle, and his evil army, and save an entire kingdom, with only the help of his brother.

Number Three: He teaches us that mushrooms are good for you (similar to Pop-Eye and his spinach).

Number Four: He is flexible, and capable of using various different objects and power-ups without having to first learn how they work.

Number Five: He can leap higher than frog, and almost everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Number Six: He is nice and enjoys socializing with the locals and helping them with their problems (bravo for caring!).

Number Seven: He is extremely agile, despite his weight, and, depending on the day, he is able to breathe underwater.

Number Eight: (My last point, until I can think up some more) His magnificent moustache. He joins the rank of the few people whose facial hair has as much fame as they do.

Is this possible?

I think it's possible to combine any kind of genre together. The whole 'horror comedy' mix is a great example of that.

IMO it's been way too long since we've had another Dragon Quest game. Where are the announcements for that? :(
I think they recently announced a Dragon Quest spin off that's like Dynasty Warriors.
But, yeah that doesn't really count as a real DQ game. Just thought I'd mention it though.
THIS game is why I want a PS4, btw.

Good to see I'm not the only one who would buy a system just for a Warriors game. That and Killer Instinct are the only reasons I've given Xbox One a glance.

What's the First Videogame you've ever played?

author=Seiromem
What's the game that you first played? Do you think it affected your life in any way, by introducing you to gaming or anything else? Do you think it truly matter what your first played game was?

The first game I can recall playing was Age Of Empires II. I played it when I was around 4. I asked my parents practically every day if I could play the computer, simply because I was curious about what to do with it. Most likely after some rapid clicking I started AoE II and played in it. I played it nearly every day after that, and soon I was playing the rest of my brothers' games. I know there's something to say about me loving a Real-time strategy game (I obviously played on the easiest difficulty) that young, but I don't now what it is =X
I honestly don't think it mattered that I played that first, however. Back then I didn't expect videogames to be anything but fun.

I think my first game was Super Mario World 3. If I remember correctly, I'd spent a lot of time watching others play a bunch of different NES games before venturing to try for myself. I, personally, don't think it has impacted my life in any way, maybe not noticeably (I have been known to be attracted to trying some really obscure games. Alfred the Chicken and Alex Kidd, to name two..... yeesh! The psychodellic world of Mario may have done something to my brain).

That aside, I applaude you for a great choice in a first game! Age of Empires II is a classic that I still find time to go back and play.
