Imagine the map as FFX's Sphere grid, except less fancy and you can only move certain steps.
No, I am not being lazy with mapping, why do you ask.

Seriously though, testing the Chipset, converting and learning how to map in RMMV takes quite a while to get used to. I am glad I can still keep this low res look.

I'll get rid of the caterpillar system. This was for testing.

The sprites looks real good imo. The top left and right diagonal animation shouldn't be too hard to create (I am pretty sure no one noticed they look off sometimes).

Since you mentioned SaGa though - while I am not sure this could help - I remember there was SaGa Frontier chars made into sprites which are surprisingly well made.
I don't remember much except it probably comes from sagaoz, romancing saga 3 hack.
the sprite was shown in gamefaqs by some poster, but it has been a few years back.

I don't remember if it has that 3/4 look though, probably not.

Unfortunately, it is mostly ye standard side view battle with extra mechanics (not actual mechanics because they voiced their concerns) piled on top of it. Hopefully those will make the battle more engaging though.

Oh and it isn't hard sci-fi. Think xenoblade chronicles (i guess technically xenogears setting would qualify too) or phantasy star kind of world.
Mechas; monsters and everything in between (religious reference excluded)

Finished playing the game. I am gonna post (in a bit) about my opinion on it, but overall I find it pretty good and I like that it feels just the right length; not too long, not too short.

Graphics and all that (including animations), I like it. I always like the old pixellated look, so I feel right at home.

Dialogues are pretty decent overall (the change in writing is noticeable, but that is after all the nature of this event so I won't nitpick on it). However, I do notice that some dialogues are all over the boxes, perhaps, because of time issue?

Balancing is also something I have a bit of problem with. Battle from mid to late game feels a bit like a slog, especially the normal encounters. Bosses are surprisingly manageable, so the normal fights feels like the just serve as a filler to be honest.

Also several things that might need fixing:
1. Ability to use several items outside battle that bestow effect, such as stone staff, is abuse-able to recover hp endlessly. I am quite grateful though because:
2. Workbench to make item is limited from mid game onward. So heal potions, antidotes is very very limited. Not to mention poison is goddamn dangerous at that point, and you can't recover from it without antidote. It even last after the battle!
3. Enemy encounter difficulty, see above poison thing. Three enemies with poison skill gave me a few game overs. Late game, I can encounter rats that can cast aoe (can all of them do this?). In theory, that can be instant party wipe. Once again, not enough workbenches to buy/create item.
4. Heal potion does not work for Christine. Intended? idk, the last skill she learned is self heal, so... I guess?
5. You forgot to give armor upgrade for Quinton

In all, despite these complaints, the game is still doable. It would be nice to see it all fixed for polished version however.

Engine : Rm2k3; I am not good with VXACE, and not planning to try atm.
Ability : Spriting mostly, Also maybe faceset/Simple Arts/pic; I am not experience in making tileset though.

(Honestly, I think I'll stick with spriting most of the time, regardless of whether you want to use Rm2k3 or VXACE.)

PS Anyone remember the Character Sheet for the last McBacon? In case you want to do that, it's still doable/early.
