I do think the D1 duel-other-scum move could have worked. Piano being detective made it difficult though.
I'm not sure the game was a lost cause either, but it seems like Piano would have had to do basically everything exactly right and still get a little lucky to string everyone along for long enough, and I think it would have resulted in public conflict with det blue which would have been risky.

I would be up for that. Assuming I don't roll scum with Cave_Dog who duels me immediately, I would prefer that didn't happen.

I was the slow bodyguard. I did use my power to guard Piano, and I was liking how there could be confusion about who the monk was since Cap and I both hadn't voted.

Yeah, that makes sense. I called that scum Piano was in a bad spot, and I was literally just about to post that I changed my mind on investigating piano.

I feel pretty good about psy, and haven't really seen any scum intent in him all game.
I really do not like the combo lynch/guard, especially being the hammer (although I'm willing to accept he might not have realized that would hammer guard).

If Piano survives while others are night killed, that sounds like a reason to lynch Piano. It would just be too suspicious on both fronts, since I can't imagine non-detective scum would be OK with letting that go on either.
If the scum is detective blue, then getting more investigations doesn't change much for them other than possibly having to convince Piano not to investigate them, so keeping Piano alive doesn't do them much good.
