New blood? Part Deux

Just been looking at google ranking for this site, and it doesn't come particularly high for anything at the moment. I guess that is primarily down to way each page is optimized for search engines at the moment. In order for this site to grow properly, a recode/redesign/rethink is probably in order (and I certainly don't blame WIP for not wanting to take that job on). I'd be happy to help if I had the time but I think there would need to be a total of 3 competent coders to get this site recoded.

I agree that in order to get visitors to the site, some changes do need to be made. Simply posting on other forums asking to visit isn't going to work. If people start using their game profiles on here as their game homepages (so when they advertise their games they can say "More info, pictures and videos can be found here" then that would obviously work. A change to the home page would be helpful. I think having an "update feed" would help, which would group all updates into a list and at least make the site feel like it is updated a lot. The site news is the first thing you see and it is probably the thing that is updated the least.

Another thing that could be done is once you click on download, forward the user to a page where they can perform a couple of different options: 1) Post a quick review 2)Rate the game 3) Send a message to the creator. Just an idea, but it might cause people to review more often because they don't have to go back and find the game and then click on review in order to review it.

I still think the major problem with this site is trying to find content is still very difficult. The search function doesn't seem to work that well and finding games is hard unless you know the URL already. Is there a way of change the URLs a little bit so that it works like http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/This_Is_The_Title. It'll help with the google ranking and make it much easier to link to.

Any of you guys/gals swim?

I used to swim for a club and compete in competitions and stuff. Did get pretty good but I started competing too late on in life and couldn't get to a high enough standard to compete as high as I wanted.

Now I just swim to keep fit, for me it's the best form of exercise and is very relaxing if the pool isn't too busy.

RMN Twitter account

I will follow when I'm on a computer that allows me to access twitter (stupid work computers). As for integrating it into the site, having something on the homepage would work. Is it possible to integrate twitter into sigs on forums (I'm assuming as long as they allow HTML)? If so, then the twitter should be linked to the latest site news (or if you update it more than the site news, then latest goings on with the site).

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I have barely any time for video games at the moment, but when I do I'm either playing Lost Odyssey, Fable 2 or Football Manager 2009.

My fiance and myself were going to be staying in the hotel we're getting married in for valentines but in the end we just couldn't afford it (who would have thought weddings were expensive!?). Anyway, we've decided to stay in, cook ourselves a nice 3 course dinner and watch a trashy movie. I don't really mind how we spend it, just nice to be able to spend it with someone!

WE'VE LANDED ON MARS

And there is water. It's just frozen. Plus I have it on good authority that, hidden in a mountain, there is a giant facility designed to flash-thaw a block of ice and give Mars an atmosphere just in time to save our heroes.

lol.

I think there's an alien spaceship hidden in a separate mountain that is going to take Gary Sinise back to the planet that they came from originally.

Oh wait. :(

Indiana Jones 4

I enjoyed the film, as a popcorn flick, but tried to take it all with a pinch of salt. I think the way to enjoy it is to approach it with the viewpoint of not trying to take it too seriously.

I can see why people were pissed off with it but it's always difficult to please fanboys who have been stewing for 19 years.

The Emo Wardrobe

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7425450.stm#clothes

This article made me laugh when I found it. They even go on to describe what an emo's wardrobe is.

On a more serious matter though, it's linked in to the whole "is emo a cult" thing going on in the UK at the moment. Basically, certain people seem to believe that emo's encourage each other to self-harm or worse. What's your take on it? Personally i'm not an emo but I still find the whole thought process in the media at the moment quite ridiculous.

The Green Project

I wouldn't like to live near a bright green rockface.
