post=142615post=142441Yeah, that basically sums it up for me. It's just a matter of me feeling guilty or not about something. Taking something from square who makes thousands/millions of dollars off of their work and Taking something from someone who probably won't make anything
i think there is a substantial ethical difference between ripping something someone has been commissioned a busload of money to create for a commercial game and ripping something a hobbyist has created for nowt for a freeware project but that is a separate issue
This is the sort of argument you invent to absolve yourself. I doubt the artist who drew the pixels for FF6 made millions of dollars from them.
Making more money does not entitle you to steal their work, especially if they make their money through honest means. It just means they'll probably care less about you, but it doesn't make you any less of a thief. You're not freaking Robin Hood or something, stealing from the rich, giving to the poor.
