Man.... so much to see. And all really great work.
I'm sure there's probably something for everyone... did you hear that?

It's me cracking my knuckles as I prepare to really hunt around your site. Thanks!

Race and Gender in Games

For myself, in truth? I actually think it's something that's just not considered. I don't think it has anything to do with the race, gender or sexual preference of the person making the game. It's just a matter of doing what feels normal.

I don't mean any form of insult by writing "normal" - I just think that when a person decides to make a game... it's a generic start point. We're all used to a young male... and generally white protagonist. So that's what gets put into the game.

Anyone who actually writes out a story first - and fleshes out the characters during the writing process - may decide they want to include a gay person, or a woman, man or trans gender person... black, white or yellow. This is probably only because they actually wrote out a story and fleshed out the plot and characters.

For most however, I feel they get a general idea and move in to get a game made. This generally includes the standard young, white hero. By the time the game creator actually begins to think of altering the hero character, they're already deep into the game... and don't want to go back and really re-do a lot of what's already been done. A lot of creative people will relate... at least I hope so... that once you get started you want to keep the train rolling.

By this point, if you go back and add a gay character or something, you don't want it to feel like they were put in to be the "token" gay character - so re-writes would be needed.

Sorry about this novel, but the jist of my story is this... I don't think the lack of inclusion is on purpose... more a matter not really thinking about it at all.

Starmage Sprites? >.<

These make me remember how tedious sprite work is. Also made me remember how fun it was although I've never been good at it. Your work is way beyond mine. Haha.

With that said, something was bothering me. At first I thought it was the belly going up and down. I liked the version where the belly didn't move. But I think it's may not be the bottom of the shirt... rather the top. The bottom (belly) decreases a pixel, but the top (collar) stays exactly the same. But I fear that making the top go up and down along with the bottom, will make her shirt look like it is sliding up and down.

I don't know. lol. This is why I don't try and draw much. Overall though, as I wrote above, excellent work.

RMMV - iOS & Android control experiences.

Perhaps this has been brought up before... but I couldn't find anything exactly like the questions I mean to ask.

One of the selling tools for RMMV is it's ability to create games outside of the PC arena. Something many people have been waiting for - for a long time.

However, just because it can be done should it?

What I'm asking is this. When it comes to RPG's, especially when considering the types of RPG's that RPG maker generally gets used for, has anyone actually played any of these games, on mobile devices, that actually work control-wise?

Action buttons. Menu button. Cancel button. Choice making during combat. The ability to interact with an NPC... that is moving around the map... in an easy way?

All this is the heart of the RPG's I like.

Sure. I've heard people talk about a virtual controller on the screen of the device. I've also heard it's annoying but more to the point... could you even implement something like that with an RPG maker game?

So, back to the question. Has anyone heard or played anything from RPG Maker, on a mobile device - that actually works?

I'd love to hear thoughts on this... and experiences if any.

[Poll] To Outline Or Not To Outline?

Haha. Sorry folks. Is there any way to change my topic name? Maybe add "Sprites" to it?
Had graphics on my mind so I never really gave any thought to the topic being confused with plot - which makes total sense. :)

[Poll] To Outline Or Not To Outline?

Sometimes having that black outline around sprites is essential to making them work with the specific tile set right? Sometimes it's a purely creative choice.

But given the choice - do you prefer black outlines or would rather not?

Hey There Pilgrims!

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to getting to know the community.

Here's the oldest screenshot of RMN I have

A lot of the featured games in the screenshot well... don't looks so different from the new ones. Hahaha. Still cool to see things the way they were.

Hey There Pilgrims!

Just a brief hello - on account of me being new here and all.
I don't have much recent game making experience... but I love playing them and keeping up to date. So hello world... so to speak.
