Dream Eater
Loving the art direction for this game. You've really nailed that kinda surreal, dreamy vibe - especially with the character artworks.
LoTL Demo finally available.

Honestly, I'm so whimsical at times. I feel I don't have the right temperament to be a developer. Just this morning I was thinking of canning the game for good, then I thought of all the characters and pixel art I've done so far. But then there are certain aspects about the general RM community that bothers the hell out of me ( like blatant bias: you just need to look at the Blogs section to get an idea of what I'm talking about ). I'm tired of keeping quiet about this and its the reason I'm no longer active in the community. It's like resisting the urge to be sick. It's been bothering me for months now and the best thing for me to do is to just stay away from the site, put those developers on Ignore and just do my thing.
Sometimes I wonder if I'll be better off learning code ( even if I do start off with HTML/CSS ) than being a slave to project that will be of no long-term benefit to me.
But don't mind my rambling.
Don't let anyone toxic in the community get you down. Be proud of this project—what it's become already, and has the potential to become. It's 10x more compelling than most stuff on this website IMO. You could even take this game commercial, if you continue on with the custom tiles, etc. XD
Even if your game isn't liked by everyone (believe me, I've known the feeling)—finish it for yourself. You owe it to yourself (and your long-time followers) after all the work that's gone into this project.
Also, it's something to consider, but you don't necessarily have to make this 40-Hour opus to achieve your vision, ya know? Remember the old cliché; quality over quantity. I have no doubt that you could easily rewrite the story to a 12 or 20 hour game, and still achieve the same effect on the player.
Choosing the episodic route doesn't mean you have to "sacrifice" either. I went down that path for BR, and it's actually very freeing.
But yeah. XD I'll give the new demo a whirl.

Maps.
Looking good.
I'd be curious to see the waterfall tiles in-motion. In the screenshot, they seem a bit flat/don't convey a sense of motion. That's something easily fixed though.
But yeah, the tiles are really coming together. I love that Tristian has this grainy and "textured" look to it - very old-school.
Lunatics with guns, domestic terrorists and homophobia...
author=Feldschlacht IVauthor=BlindmindI've seen this stated quite a bit, but I don't really agree; is it not possible for something to be motivated by a radical interpretation of Islam and be a LGBT hate crime? They're not mutually exclusive. Let's address both, we're doing everyone a disservice by not doing so.
I find it interesting at the very least that most of the dialogues in the media are more laced with Islamphobia than they are willing to acknowledge what this really was: an LGBT hate crime.
Yes, it's possible. Other than the LGBT community, that isn't really happening though. (..Even in this very thread). That's why I mentioned it.
If there was a white-on-black shooting at this magnitude, wouldn't you find it disrespectful for the media to appropriate the tragedy without much attention being devoted to the issue of racism? That's how it feels here, from my point of view.
That isn't to say I don't appreciate the worldwide outreach, vigils, tributes, and words of unity. But it's scarcely coming from the media or our politicians.

I kinda wish they hadn't divulged who the shooter was. Who does that information honestly help? >.<
My thoughts are with the families.
Hm, uh, really though? I think that's quite an essential piece of context - especially if politicians are so quick jump the gun on subverting a tragedy for agendas and policy.
Actually, a lot of reports are saying that the shooter was a frequent patron of the nightclub and could have even been gay himself. Not entirely surprising (most homophobic people are usually quite repressed), but it does add a chilling layer to an already terrible tragedy.
I find it interesting at the very least that most of the dialogues in the media are more laced with Islamphobia than they are willing to acknowledge what this really was: an LGBT hate crime. Instead of pushing for unity, both presidential candidates quickly commandeered the dialogue. But I guess that's also not entirely surprising.

This article also spelled out why the whole thing is so infuriating:
"Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., condemned “this heartbreaking act of terrorism.” Mentioning Mateen’s “Afghan heritage,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee warned “self-hating liberals” of worse to come if they do not realize the dangers of “radical Islam.” Even more pronounced in his language was Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas: From 9/11 to the Boston Marathon, from Fort Hood to Chattanooga, from San Bernardino to last night’s horrific attack in Orlando, radical Islamic terrorism has declared jihad on America.”
Last year, however, few politicians used the word “terrorist” to describe Dylann Roof, who murdered nine people in a black church in Charleston, South Carolina. Rubio’s first response was to say that he was “saddened by the news from Charleston.” Cruz’s statement the next day did not mention terror. He was making gun jokes within a week.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina described Roof as “one of these whacked-out kids,” and Gov. Nikki Haley expressed bafflement as to his motivation. Roof had expressed hatred for black people, and was photographed burning an American flag and proudly holding a Confederate one.
Why the difference in treatment between Mateen and Roof?
“The word ‘terrorist’ is being used here to turn our attention away from the deep-seated hatreds that animate American public life,” Eddie Glaude, a professor of religion and African-American studies at Princeton University, told me.
“Dylann Roof gives us an example of how racism might evidence itself in extreme violence, and the way in which (politicians) contained it was by talking about him. ‘He’s crazy. That’s the problem.’ So there was a way to contain it so it doesn’t become an occasion for us to reflect on how profoundly racist this society still is.”
Essentially, describing Roof’s actions as terrorism would have been an indictment of America itself.
“Recognizing acts of terrorism requires action by the state, and I think that is something many white politicians don’t conceive of as possible when violence is inflicted against black people,” Chad Williams, an associate professor and chairman of the Department of African and Afro-American Studies at Brandeis University, told me. “It’s much easier, given the makeup of our political racial climate, to demonize Muslims and to transform that into political talking points.”
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
IGN did a first-impressions and an interview with Aonuma. I thought this part was really intriguing:
"Nintendo isn’t afraid to emphasize how different this adventure is from its predecessors, even in the game’s name. “Even the subtitle itself is different from previous Zelda titles,” Aonuma said. In past games of the series, he explained, Nintendo would use item names like Skyward Sword or character names Twilight Princess as the subtitle for a new game. For this project, Aonuma worked closely with Nate Bihldorff from Nintendo’s Treehouse over the span of many months before they landed on the name, Breath of the Wild. ”It took a while,” Bihldorff said, “We talked a lot about plot points and items and characters, but what we kept coming back to was that the world itself is really the soul of this game.”
To Bihldorff, the stark, final image shown in the trailer really represented what the game was all about. “The ruined, crumbling masonry and the quiet field with a breeze running through it,” he said. “The sense of melancholy that pervades this place, what was once a beautiful kingdom is now fallen to ruin really felt like the soul of the game to us.” We found a Goddess Statue sitting inside the ruined Temple of Time Bihldorff described. The sad scene sets up so many mysteries that appear to be an integral part of the next Zelda.
“Really, the world is the main character,” Aonuma added.

Yeah, it may be a few years *behind* Skyrim with the suvival elements, but the execution looks pretty damn spot-on. I'm actually really loving the art style. XD Hyrule looks phenomenal.
I didn't watch the full press conference, so I'll have to go back and see what other details Reggie mentioned. I'm wondering if the 'open-world' theme will have accompanying dungeons (or even a traditional narrative) that's more typical for Zelda. Maybe the game doesn't need one?
