Frogge's Maps Workshop
author=Sated
People pay people to map for them? For some reason (whether or not it's logical) I find that incredibly sad.
Hmm, it happens more than you'd think. XD I made $50 last week just churning out a couple of MV maps.
These are looking good, Frogge. :) Is your approach for the exterior maps entirely parallax?

FF7 remake. It's a thing.

...so Toriyama's not directing? Hmm...if he's totally out of the picture then I may be able to get on board with this.
Director(s) Tetsuya Nomura
Producer(s) Yoshinori Kitase
Writer(s) Kazushige Nojima
Part of me does wish Sakaguchi was still involved, simply because he was responsible for so much of the overall tone, the "theme of life" that defined Final Fantasy VII.
Toriyama is thankfully absent, but Nomura doesn't have too many directing credentials either.. (outside of Advent Children or Kingdom Hearts). So, I'm still a bit on the fence.
It could all just be rose-tinted nostalgia talking, of course. XD

I have zero faith in Square Enix. The guy in charge of the FF games right now has no idea what makes Final Fantasy games "Final Fantasy". It's like if the worst of the rpgmaking community won the lottery and found themselves directing rpgs for the biggest RPG name known. He is making games for and about himself.
No personality, no heart...everything is about being pretty and empty. FF7 came out over 20 years ago and people STILL try to use Cloud/Sephiroth for their internet screennames. The FF games have gone from players caring too much when a character dies(FF7) to players actively wishing for the main party to be murdered violently(FF13).
I don't even want to think about what this guy will do to FF7...
I had these same feelings. I enjoyed Nomura as an adolescent (lol..), but his storytelling approach is pretty sophomoric.
Hopefully they can leave the game's script generally as-is, hire some quality actors, and emphasize the appeal of updated aesthetics, where SE undeniably shines. The original game squeezed such artistry into low-res backdrops and jagged pixel characters, that it'd be an absolute disgrace if they can't conjure up the same magic with today's technology.
But yeah, trying to remain optimistic. XD
[Poll] Cloud is in SMASH4?
Hm, a sign Nintendo wants the remake on Nintendo NX~?
(But tbh, I squealed a little. XD It's kind of ironic that the reappearance of a 20 year-old-character excited me more than... anything else on the Nintendo Direct.. lol)

I actually really love how dark it is. It creates a really amazing compositional contrast, and a really beautiful tone. It's indeed jawdropping. My only complaint is the bottom part of the floating island tiles because I think they should fade to a lighter color in order to blend better with the clouds, or have some floating rocks etc to better emphasize the idea of floating islands.
Yeah, agreed with this comment. It's a great color composition, but you could take it even further, depending on how frequently it's in the game.
Are you using an overlay to "mask" parts of the map, pixel-by-pixel? Or did you darken the tiles in the chipset itself? XD If you're taking the former approach, it wouldn't be too much trouble to lighten the bottom edges, like Jo suggested.
Just a rough/quick edit, but you get the idea.

What do you think of when you hear "RPG Maker"?
Don Miguel's Adventure, RTP dungeon midis a la 2003, floating islands, Misaos, three-tile-mapping, a disproportioned ratio of vaporware to finished products, Gaming Ground Zero, the rise of rudra chapsets, beloved Raptors, coheed and cambria, the grossly undeserved success of aveyond, our lovable 4chan-esque community of zany but well-meaning developers, the inevitable decay of rpgmaker forums into cesspools.. (lol)
(..actually, when I reread that stream of consciousness I just feel nostalgic and old)

Lmao, people still commenting on such an old screenshot.. XD (I did tone down the lighting effect just a tad... You'll get to see it in motion soon, I hope~? ;P)
