BLUMIU'S PROFILE

Hello! BluMiu here and I'm no stranger to RM as I've been around some years now, off and on due to life and work outside. I'm an artist that's recently gotten back into doing commission work for game makers as well as on my own. Eventually I'd like to work on game after finish writing book and putting together art book, but for now I'd like to explore the other artists on the forums, learn new things for the future and share my own works :)
Hope to see you around!

Love this style you're developing it. It's so good. Kinda envious! My styles have always been clutching the simple cartoony side of art.

I will note that Engel's iris' are not pointing the wrong directions.
It makes him look cross eyed. Generally both iris' will point the same direction regardless where they're looking. In this case, if you moved the left eye to the left to match the right eye, it would look more natural. If that makes sense.

I have no idea how you can see the drawings since I can't on my end lol! I didn't think all of these old post links would be broken.

I think I know what you're talking about though. I don't think I considered it cross-eyed, but that it looked off. I'ts been fixed since the original post, however.

And thank you! Cartoony art takes a certain skill. It's hard for me to switch back to a stylized anime (likely because haven't refined it yet). All it takes is the same amount of practice to get to where you are now, if not a bit more studying :)

I think the main issue people have is that a lot of your work looks like it's copied or heavily inspired by already existing art/games and that could lead to legal trouble for those purchasing it. Do you have any more original compositions to show off, maybe? Because I'ma be real, when I looked through your images shown I thought initially that they were rehashes of Castlevania art, even though after searching for them, they weren't. They just look a lot like them and that confusion and instant recognition might not help you move numbers, so to speak.

1) If you can't demonstrate where and what all of this work is, don't say it. So far there is a Castlevania portrait made to look like a Castlevania character, in that style. If you are referring to beyond the commission art sheet, what exactly are you referring to? I've had people spot inspirations in my original work, but never have I been accused of copying or imitating directly. Because I don't. Every artist has inspirations, some base their styles on another close as possible, I develop my own yet still influences show. Beyond that, I've no idea what you're referring to.

I'm flattered, but if you honestly think the composition is similar to artwork Ayami Kojima has done, you should look up more art for novels or promo work for a specific kind of Japanese genre. They are collage based illustrations with thematic or relative additions. They are not specific to Ayami Kojima, that would just be your limited experience with it. I like Yoshitaka Amano, Kentaro Miura, Tetsuya Hara and others. At times I'll draw close as possible, specifically Hara because it's so singular, namely for a parody story I'm doing or fanart. Other than that, it's the level of detail I love. I'm aware of an artist I won't name that's not well known but gets commission project work because he imitates Ayami Kojima's art close as possible.
That's great for him, but I don't imitate not because you get into copyright trouble. No one owns an art style and no one gets in trouble for selling fanart aside the instances companies take umbrage. My issue with imitate is that it's not original and you'll always be in that artist's shadow. You want to stand out in your own way, unless you want to be known for making art in a specific genre.

I posted a link to my art pages. If you aren't interested in purchasing anything and you're curious for another reason, look there. I won't be posting all my art here or it'd be the same as my gallery here, which is a dump of everything. I have about four or five different art styles, so I'm speculative of your assertion all my art is the same when I span from mecha, cyberpunk, steampunk and fantasy in anime-realism and stylized.

Weapons designs. I should really have more of these done since they don't take long.

I concur. Great handling of this all. Thanks for the explanations too. I think a lot people could appreciate your style here, so good luck moving forward!

Thank you, I don't feel like I handled it that well, but likely because I said a lot more in my head than what was lol! Even so, I appreciate it and I'll be sure too :)

To anyone having an issue with how big the images are, I'll try and resize best I can, but I can't get thumbnail to work, so until then, click 'View Image' to see in entirety. You don't need to see all the tiny imperfections lol

Conceptual work...

Noesis & Oasis weapon design. Noesis, the gun/spear hybrid needs a little more work, I think.

Armaments for Dusk Merloci; a cinquedea, schiovana and wheellock pistol

My first mecha design in ages...

A bit of graphic design with this illustration for a tokusatsu story of mine.

A CG heavy and chiaroscuro portrait pieces.

And character design/concepts, of course...

Of course, but when you've only got a few things that you're proud of and want to expand, you tend to just take your best bits and show them off, thinking that that'd be 'good enough'.

Thus the suggestion of showing off other stuff than what they've shown thus far, catered more towards the clients they want to draw in, instead of just 'this is stuff I've done that has no basis on the audience I'm trying to reach out to'...

I get your point, however. The format is more what matters here. I am offering portraits, full body and illustrations. Not my own artwork or fanart, or at least I would think it obvious given those are examples in the commission sheet. I will say it could be more geared toward game projects, true. Yet if I plan on posting further examples in my thread of what I've done, I think that means people jumped the gun far too soon.

The issue is being accused of, not simply making a suggestion of what's best to post. The first reply was passive-aggressive as it went on to make those assumptions of not just the fanart, but the original art as well. You don't do that. You can ask for further examples if suspicious. I posted links to my art pages and ways to examine if art is heavily referenced/copied or not.

I'm fairly certain proper conduct is expected from everyone, especially commission work. However, the plus is this is getting attention and those actually thinking about a commission can see for themselves (or actually inquire).

This site doesn't have a resize/thumbnail option, so had to stop being lazy and fix that (at least best as possible.
I mean, there is a "thumb" tag, but, like, if I try to copy-paste...

I get the same issue, nothing is working. I just got what you were saying, so the same. I believe thumbs used to work before I left, now they don't work whether https, image address or anything.

Best I can do so far is try and reduce images to viewable size. Thanks for the help, anyway!
