Ban Rick Perry

I'm in defense of free speech... also free speech: That ad was so ridiculous, and he's anti-gay wearing a jacket used by a gay character, played by Heath Ledger in the movie I didn't watch "Brokeback Mountain".

Commentary about Rick Perry's ad here

Catharsis

There is a major problem with the movement part of the event going on in the first scene map of the forest. You need to fix it and re-upload it... people won't be able to fix that on their own unless they have an unencrypted copy. Also, the teleport event from the previous map is on the left side, which should be on the center side... and when you open the game there is a message that says parallax bg "zodiac" is missing.

Catharsis

Looks pretty. Sadly the RSD demo freezes in the forest event after both the main character and the soldier head left to pursue the caravans or whatever NPCs where camping... check it out. And re-upload it.

Release Something 11

Planned to make a small game, but didn't work out... so here are some stuff I updated:

License= CC-BY 3.0

Also, this:

This is a map guide, to help you create dungeons easily... just make the mini map, and then go ahead and make the real dungeon map using your tileset.

What's your biggest regret?

Posting on this thread lol.

Video recording/editing software?

Does anyone have any good suggestions for video recording/editing software. Something simple and easy to use as I'm not really familiar with these kind of things?

Wanna record something from my Rm2k3 game.

Yes, here, 100% free.

Citing the "very high respected game designer in the industry, who wrote a couple of books" example from before, you aren't studying the work of others by taking in someone else's word ad verbatim. You're supposed to analyze and comprehend the fundamentals, then build your own structure from there. Examine the art, not the artist.

Simply absorbing "this is how you do it" and using that is fine for science and mechanics, but art requires an intuitive base that can't be transferred conventionally.

After saying "Everybody's journey to success is different", I'm kind of beating myself silly here =x Just thought I'd chime in about how I don't see the value in art instruction.

I realize just now, you got the whole thing out of context... you went on a rant about Video game Art, which isn't Game Design. To put it simply:

-Game Designers Are NOT Programmers
-Game Designers Are NOT Artists
-Game Designers Are NOT Audio Engineers or Musicians
-Game Designers Are Visionaries

Also, to some of you who make the wrong assumptions: For years now, I've been completely past the whole "I know more than you mr. rpgmaker developer" contest, actually... I was never there in the first place. Just never been my style. If I make references to books and whatever, it's only to enlighten and or support the topic at hand. Hope that helps, in case anyone is confused about my intentions. :)

But more on topic, it is very naive to think that one can't progress in art and learn by studying the teachings and work of others.

I agree. Art isn't only about practice and doing "your own thing", if you wanna be really good you need to learn from the masters, which happen to have flushed out almost all they know, into books. :) And I know what I'm talking about, from experience.

A lot of game developers say that in Game Design books. Don't worry~

No worries here. :)

Your listening to some guy who is a "very high respected game designer in the industry, who wrote a couple of books" is deadweight on your own ability. Art comes from within, and your within should be filled with your own experiences and views of the world. Everybody's journey to success is different. If you base your work around what you read in "Game Design books" or heard from a "very high respected game designer in the industry", you'll never advance as an artist.

I don't agree, but okay. :)

There is no such thing as original anymore, is there? If by anything, a lot of media are rehashes of other ideas, executed differently to look "original"??

Yes. That, and also ideas are worthless shit unless they are materialized. I said that in my own words of course, but the original words come from a very high respected game designer in the industry, who wrote a couple of books.
